    • RE: THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL

I've seen great reviews for the Wings Over Europe Live disc!

Can't believe McCartney made the gigantic mistake of not making this a stand alone disc that everyone could buy?!  What was he thinking?  He should know that any rare live Wings released officially is going to be a very hot item!  I hope this same mistake isn't made in the future When he releases Wings last live shows!

Oh and I can't wait to get my hands on Wings Over Europe!

Listened to the whole album twice, of course I'll need to hear it on my bose system, but my initial thoughts...

After hearing the entire album... McCartney's voice sounds really good.
      I Don't Know
      Come On To Me
      Back In Brazil, are good.

Who Cares is better, I like the guitars but it's way too short and could have used a guitar solo.
Hunt You Down/Naked/C-link is my fave on the album. Something finally really rocks and the changes and McCartney's guitar playing add to the mix.
Seems Like the bass playing isn't as prominent throughout as I'd like.

The rest just didn't do anything for me, Despite Repeated Warnings has a nice middle section but for me it's a disappointment.
I don't hear anything on this album as good as the best of McCartney solo.

I'll listen again on a much better system, was really looking forward to it and had high hopes, but for me this album is just okay, not as good as MAF or New. Not enough in the rock direction, really wish McCartney would get a producer that understood that.
      Just my very humble opinion.

McCartney has always tried different sounds and styles, the variety in his music is one of the absolutely beautiful things aobut it!

Fuh You doesn't do it for me, it doesn't sound like Paul McCartney, it's too far away from his strengths to me.  Of the three songs so far, Come On To Me is the best.

I wish McCartney would get away from all these type producers and get a producer that understands rock and roll!

Get his band in the studio and write in his style, and not worry about being contemporary.  McCartney's roots are rock and roll not this current sounding stuff.  I give him total credit for staying in the game and trying out new things, but his classic style of writing is more than good enough!

A bunch of us do but we have come to understand it is not going to happen  !!

Maybe not, but as long as he performs live, I will continue to ask and keep hope alive!

    • RE: Set List critique

Again, McCartney gets no excuses from me, and my post are not just wishful thinking!

Over all these decades, McCartney has had plenty of time to change his setlist!  This isn't something that just started recently, people have been asking for changes since the 90's, I know because I'm one of them!  I saw his setlist becoming predictable and staying Beatle heavy back then, and it has remained that way!  The people seeing him for the first time thing is tired and old now, they've had all these decades to see McCartney's Beatle heavy setlist!

More people know his more current music than you think, just look at Youtube and all the different musicians and people doing versions of his more current music!  How many of his more current albums were in the top ten?  His standards album was #1 on the billboard jazz chart!  There's just no excuse for it anymore, the man has the material, he should be reaching much deeper than he does!

Yes he's 75, but he's still performing live and if he can still sing the songs he does, he can still add new ones!  He's probably going to add songs from his new album, so he could add songs from thru out his career!  As I posted earlier, he could do songs he hasn't done since the 70s, if they were good enough then, believe me they are probably even better now!

No one can tell me, crowds wouldn't be thrilled to hear Big Barn Bed, The Mess, Smile Away, Getting Closer, I've Had Enough, I Can Bet, That Was Me, House Of Wax, Take It Away, No More Lonely Nights, One Of These Days, Cafe On The Left Bank, Beware My Love, Best Friend, With A Little Luck, etc.

He plays some fantastic songs during his soundchecks, why not add them to the actual show?  The song Alligator is one of them, another is Friends To Go, two great songs, why not do them in the show?!  I just don't get it?

When it comes to live performance, Paul McCartney is leaving so much fantastic music just lying on the table?!

I'm making no excuses for McCartney, he should change his setlist!

The man has the quality material, he has the band they can rehearse any song, so there's no excuse!  If he can play a song like Temporary Secretary, he most certainly can play songs that are way better!

No one expects him not to play some hits, but how about the rest of the show, he could easily swap out some songs, and he could even play Wings/solo songs that he has before, especially the ones that he hasn't done since the 70s like...

Getting Closer, The Mess, Smile Away, Big Barn Bed, Best Friend , I've Had Enough and how many does he have to choose from the rest of his career?  Something that blows my mind is how he doesn't perform a fantastic song like I Can Bet?!  That song would be absolutely awesome and is just screaming to be performed live!  Did he ever play House Of Wax, That Was Me for American audiences?  In fact did he ever perform any of those songs I listed above for American Audiences?

It's just my opinion, but McCartney's lack of performing more of his Wings/solo material since the 70s, is the one strike against his live performance legacy!  Changing one or two songs just doesn't cut it, his setlist became predictable years ago!  It's really sad because it doesn't have to be!

Would be absolutely awesome if McCartney opened with The Mess, and then backed it up with Getting Closer!  Now that would be a show I'd like to see!

If people haven't seen McCartney's Beatle heavy show after all these years, oh well!

It's way past time he dedicated at least one tour to his Wings/solo material!

    • RE: Wishes for Paul's New Album?

My wish for McCartney's new album is that he finally record with his band!  He has yet to record a FULL ALBUM using only his band!  They've done bits and pieces, but it's way past time they recorded a whole album.  How long have they been together, it's time!

This album is absolutely amazing! This is how good I think it is, it is now my #1 very fave Beatles album! I like most of their albums, but none of them, and I do mean none of them, have the force, power and all out hard rocking sound of this new Live At The Hollywood Bowl! I have never ever heard the Beatles this hard and rockin anywhere else! This is an EPIC album, and it should be #1!

I wouldn't say Lennon owns Hollywood Bowl, because McCartney on She's A Woman , Can't Buy Me Love and Long Tall Sally is absolutely doing some hard rock shouting! The whole album is way better than anyone could have expected! I'm still listening and I'm still thrilled!

Got my copy today! I put it on and cranked my Bose system, right out the gate I noticed the Boom of McCartney's bass! I have so many thoughts about what I'm hearing that I almost don't know where to start! First off, Giles Martin deserves high fives from everyone! The sound improvement cannot be denied, the vocals on this album come thru loud and clear! In fact the entire band comes thru! This album absolutely ROCKS! She's A Woman is absolutely bad to the bone! The Beatles are tight, hot and laying it down! It is absolutely amazing that they were this tight and played this good under the conditions they were in. Anyone who says the Beatles weren't a good live band is just wrong! Dizzy Miss Lizzy is Heavy Metal in 1964! When Lennon screams the Beatles are taking no prisoners, this is absolute hard rock, in fact this is one of the hardest rocking performances I've ever heard of the Beatles! What Giles Martin has done allows you to really hear the band, and man what a hard rocking band the Beatles really were! One of the things I always hold against all of the Beatle tribute bands is they don't really rock as hard as the real Beatles. The sound is just so much improved, listen to Harrison's guitar solo in Roll Over Beethoven, now you can hear it so clear! Ringo's drumming can be heard much better. McCartney's vocals shine in Can't Buy Me Love ! As I said, I love the boom of McCartney's bass behind it all! I've always thought that you should be able to hear McCartney's bass, Giles Martin deserves credit. I could go on and on about the songs, but I'll just say they were right, this does bring the thrill of a Beatles concert! The improved sound let's you really hear how powerful and absolutely hard rocking the Beatles really were live! To me, this is a must have album, what they've done should change how anyone looks at this album now! This album isn't the stepchild anymore, these are absolutely hot hard rocking performances that sound better than they ever have! I like the four additional songs as well, I really love Lennon's vocals on You Can't Do That! I am actually excited, this sounds way way better than I was expecting! I still don't like the cover, but this has easily become one of my very fave Beatle albums! To my ears, this is a proper and very very good live album!

Personally I don't like Mull at all, I think it's for a specific group of people who can relate to the song. It's just a shame that McCartney has so many absolutely fantastic songs that will never ever be performed live, such a shame! After the early 80's for me McCartney became a disappointment live, the Beatle heavy setlist just became predictable. Songs like... I Can Bet Take It Away The Mess Getting Closer Girlschool No More Lonely Nights Stranglehold Big Barn Bed Rockestra Theme So Glad To See You Here What It Is That Was Me Too Much Rain Promise To You Girl This Never Happened Before Smile Away Cafe On The Left Bank Whole Life One Of These Days Somebody Who Cares House Of Wax Arrow Thru Me Best Friend I Wanna Cry OO You Wildlife I've Had Enough and others have been screaming to be performed live and he doesn't even touch them, once again it's just such a shame! For me his live legacy will be that he played it way way way too safe after the 80's!

Ane, disagree again! There are way too many sources that are asking McCartney to change his setlist, more and more people are asking for these songs. Don't believe me, go to Youtube and see what people are saying, they are asking the question why doesn't McCartney perform this song or that song, so he could very easily do it. He could tell the crowd this is a song from my first solo album, or this is a song that Linda really liked or you get the idea, he could introduce those songs just like he could introduce any other song. There is no excuse, Paul McCartney could and should perform more of his Wings/solo material!
