Jaipur, that shouldn't be necessary though, with a catalog as rich and as full as McCartney's a properly balanced setlist will give everyone what they want and like. The newbie as well as the veteran will be happy and satisfied. Paul McCartney has the songs to do it!

RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
Some say I keep saying the same thing over and over, well have you noticed that many of you are saying the same thing over and over and over as well? Example, how many times, I repeat, how many times have some on this forum made the statement that McCartney has to perform the same setlist because it may be someones first time seeing him, how many times?? Did I even once come back and call someone a name, or tell them to give it a rest or anything of the sort? No I did not, I just responded with my honest opinion. I still don't get this first time seeing McCartney statement anyway? If McCartney decided to change his setlist what could any of us do about it? Whether it was your first time or your last time if McCartney decided to change his setlist you would have to enjoy whatever he performed. So the first time seeing him statement just doesn't cut it. Because it's someones first time, does that mean the man has to play the same songs for the rest of his life! As I said before, what true fan would penalize the man like that? Also as I posted earlier, McCartney has given everyone the last twenty years to see his Beatle heavy show, it's not his fault if someone couldn't make it. I've had to travel very long distances to see him myself. Once again I've never said he shouldn't perform any Beatles, but after twenty years of Beatle heavy shows, it's time for the other phases of his career to get some attention. The type setlist I suggested earlier gives every one of his fans plenty of what they like, a show that is very representative of Paul McCartneys entire fantastic career!

I want everyone to notice, I'm never disrespectful, I never call anyone names, and I try to never be offensive. I will continue to state my opinion with dignity, respect, honesty, and truthfulness. Paul McCartney is a brilliant entertainer, he has excellent quality material from three distinct phases of his career, how many artist can say that? Many of you are really Beatle fans, I am a Paul McCartney fan with a deep appreciation and respect for the Beatles. When I go to a Paul McCartney concert, I want to hear all phases of Paul McCartney, not just the Beatles and for the most part for the last twenty years we have gotten the Beatle Paul. It's time for the other phases of his career to get some attention, I've never said he shouldn't perform any Beatles, but it's time now for a lot less. Sure he's going to perform the core songs, but it doesn't have to be the exact same core songs. Here's what I've always suggested, McCartney averages about 30 songs per show, he could do... 10 Beatles 10 Wings 10 Solo McCartney picks ten of the very best from each phase of his career (mostly rockers please) mixes them up anyway that he likes so the audience gets hit with surprise after surprise. If this is really his last big world wide tour, this is his chance to put together a very special setlist that truly covers and is representative of his entire fantastic career! In my heart of hearts, I don't think that's too much to ask of someone as brilliant as Paul McCartney!!

RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
Susan Hickman, no I will not give it a rest, that's the problem now, too many people have given it a rest!! paul McCartney is one of the greatest entertainers in the whole world, and I want to hear as much of his music live as I possibly can. His career was and is more than just the freaking Beatles! I fully realize that he may never ever do the type show I want, but that doesn't mean that I'm just going to be a blind follower and not try and let the man know how much I and many others would love to hear more of his music on stage. If you're happy with basically the same show year after year and tour after tour, good for you, me I expect someone as brilliant as Paul McCartney to be better than that! Also, I have never ever told anyone to give it a rest when they continually say that McCartney is going to perform mostly Beatles. Even though I may disagree, I respect their opinion, so please return the favor and respect mine, because it isn't going to change! Paul McCartney seriously needs to change his setlist!!

RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
Denny C, come on now basically his show in Kiev was his same old act. One song does not a new show make. Thrilled to see Only Mama Knows back in the setlist, he should keep that one in for the upcoming tour. This type setlist is fine for special shows like Liverpool and Kiev, but if he pulls out this setlist for his upcoming world tour, you might as well get ready for all the setlist complaints, and I will be one of the main ones complaining!! This is McCartneys chance to put together a really special world tour filled with fantastic songs that haven't been played in years or never before, I hope he rises to the occasion.

Dear Boy, McCartney made a video for Stranglehold, it was featured on VH1 and MTV so that song might be more known than you think. I understand what you mean though.

RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
Dear Boy, the other songs on my list have just as much a chance as 1985 does. Great that he performed Mrs. Vanderbilt, but now it's time for Juniors Farm!

RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
I disagree, I think McCartney could tour with that type show. Many people are ready for McCartney to do something totally different. I just believe in my heart that if McCartney stepped on stage with a whole new lineup of Beatles, Wings and solo songs people would be absolutely thrilled!! He wouldn't have to repeat himself at all. He should test it out, pick a 5000 seat theartre, and put on this type show and watch the reaction. Very quickly he would see that the show should go on the road. Imagine him and his current rocking band ripping thru... Juniors Farm Getting Closer The Mess Girlschool I've had Enough 1985 Only Mama Knows House Of Wax Rockestra Theme Cafe On The Left Bank Smile Away Big Barn Bed Rinse The Raindrops Stranglehold Yeah I know these are all rockers, but as someone posted earlier these songs just scream play me live! The house would be shaking and the crowd would be rocking so hard absolutely no one would be dissappointed!! I get excited just thinking about these awesome songs being performed live!

Mikeskapala, amen brother!!

RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
I'm in the group that says balance it all out, McCartney's show should be equally representative of his entire career, Beatles, Wings, and solo! As it is now, it's always Beatle heavy. Change all the songs up, pick totally new and different gems from his career, he has plenty of them. I don't expect him to do this at a show like Liverpool or Keiv, but when he starts his regular world tour, that's when the setlist needs to be changed!
-
RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
Yeah, it would be a thrill not to get another Beatle heavy setlist like we have for the last twenty years! Eric says that nearly half of his setlist has changed, let's say that's true, if those changes are still just mostly Beatles, what has changed, those few songs? Well that's still what he has done for the last twenty years?
-
RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
Twist it anyway you want, the simple fact is that McCartney has hit the stage with a Beatle heavy setlist for the last twenty years, and that is also fact! People on all kinds of music websites are saying the same exact thing! paul McCartneys core songs have been the same, he just switches them out from one tour to the next. How many times have we heard... Hey Jude Let It Be I Saw Her Standing There Got To Get You Into My Life Yesterday Get Back Lady Madonna Drive My Car The Long And Winding Road Blackbird Eleanor Rigby Penny Lane Sgt pepper reprise/ The End All My Loving We Can Work It Out Back In The USSR Can't Buy Me Love Every single live album I have by McCartney except Wings Over America has a variation of these songs on it. As I said he's been doing these core songs for the last twenty years! FACT!! The Wings songs are exactly the same, the solo songs change very little, and of course he may push his new album. This is what he has done for the last twenty years!! All he does is add more Beatles songs to go along with the Beatle songs he's already performing, resulting in yet another Beatle heavy setlist. Nothing has changed!

RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
Eric In Boise, if you feel the need to correct me as you say, have at it, I have no problem with it. That still doesn't change the fact of what I've been saying! Paul McCartney has hit the stage with a Beatle heavy setlist for the last twenty years! Sure he changes some songs, but changing some songs isn't really changing anything when it's the very same formula year after year tour after tour! It's always Beatles, Beatles, Beatles, that's my main point! If you want to highlight the few songs he changes go right ahead, I'm waiting for him to make real changes! As I said, balance it out, give each phase of his career equal time and then I will be the first to say he has really made some changes. That is fact!!
-
RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
No one is twisting anything out of context, I never said those songs were the same, read my post, I said replacing one Beatles heavy setlist for another isn't really change at all. That's the exact samething McCartney has been doing for the last twenty years! How about he really change and balance it all out! Equal on every phase of his career, now that would be change and not just another Beatle heavy setlist!
-
RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
Replacing one Beatles heavy setlist for another, is not really change at all! His core songs are always the same! once again, what about Wings and solo??
-
RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
See how some people love to twist things out of context, absolutely no one is saying that they know more than McCartney, that's a ridiculous thing to even say!! All we're saying is it's time for McCartney to change his setlist! The man has been performing basically the same setlist for the last two freaking DECADES!! Now I want to address yet again the first time concert goer. It's always going to be someones first time seeing McCartney! Does that mean that we permanently put him in a box, does that mean that this man has to sing the same exact songs year after year, tour after tour, for the rest of his freaking life!! It's not McCartney's fault if some people didn't make it in the last twenty years!! What kind of honest fan would penalize him like that, is that all you expect from someone as brilliant as Paul McCartney? If it is, I find that totally totally sad! Personally I want the greatest entertainer in the world to perform as much of his fantastic music as is humanly possible for him to do!! It's absolutely amazing to me that some people only want to hear from 8 years of his career??
-
RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
How about giving the audience the chance to know the songs, how do we know they won't like them?? This would at least give his audience something to think about in regards as to whether he's an oldies act or not. Many of those songs may be old, but at least McCartney's act wouldn't be old, or predictable, or repetitive, or boring!
-
RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
So, if he can play those 60s songs, he most certainly can play all his 70s hits as well!
-
RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
I notice that when the discussion of McCartney's setlist comes up, some people always jump to the conclusion that no ones ever heard the music, or it's obscure and unknown?? NEWS FLASH, WINGS WERE THE BIGGEST SELLING GROUP OF THE FREAKING 70S, THEIR MUSIC IS KNOWN BY PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD, THOSE SINGLES AND ALBUMS SOLD BY THE FREAKING MILLIONS!! Now please excuse me for yelling, but I'm sick and tired of reading these comments about people not knowing McCartneys Wings period, that is just total bull! A whole generation of people came up listening to Wings and McCartney's solo music, so please stop using the excuse that people in the audience wouldn't know this song or that song, because it's just not true! Besides no one is suggesting McCartney get on stage and play some deep buried album track, but if he performed songs like... Juniors Farm Getting Closer Take It Away 1985 No More Lonely Nights This Never happened Before I've had Enough Rockestra Theme The Mess Big Barn Bed Listen To What The Man Said Silly Love Songs No one would get up and walk out, and no one would be scratching their head. Many of these songs have been performed at least one time before, and the others come from very successful albums. So once again stop with this myth that people in the audience wouldn't know or like this fantastic music!! Paul McCartney should be performing all of this great material!

RE: Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.
I'm not excepting it, and if it's just more of the same on the upcoming tour I'm not spending my money to see it either!
