"Be What You See (Link)" is an interesting piece of music that would have been interesting to see if developed further than the mere 30 seconds or so that is available.

Matthew Is Under Your Covers
I really must be high to do this, because I thought there would a greater chance of me shooting myself up with heroin, then taking a keg full of LSD, then find myself inside a taco truck somewhere down in Downtown L.A. serving food and snorting cocaine with an 81 year old lady with three grandchildren who is... eh, you get the idea... in other words, I never thought I'd do a thread like this... but what the hell? So, first off, don't fret: I'm not actually UNDER your covers. So drop those phones! But it is "cover" related... So, you see, in the real world which, despite popular belief is actually quite pertinent to me, I'm a musician/songwriter/producer, whatever the hell you want to call me. It's a fun gig and I enjoy doing it. But when I'm not busy writing songs and doing all of that, what I really love doing is covers. In the beginning, when I started, they were generally great practice for me, and I generally enjoy and feed off the challenges of trying to recreate what I hear. It's good fun, and given that we're all music fans here, I figured: why not share them? There's a couple of qualifiers, though: I'm not particularly diverse in the type of stuff I do. I generally like doing a lot of Beach Boys songs because 1. at worst, they probably rank 1A for me to the Beatles and 2. their music is ridiculously fun and challenging to do. So all of what you'll hear in this batch is the Beach Boys stuff. Though have no fears: unless I get tired of this and have the thread wiped, which, alas, is always a possibility, I might use this as a thread for me to just post the covers I do. Sort of a fun thing for both of our amusement. A fun little hobby, if you will, and if you like it, even better! I'm even open for possible suggestions of songs to try. I might not get to doing these things at a frequent interval, but I'll try my best when I can. So, here are your samplings for today. Everything you hear is me, though keep in mind that, given that this is just a fun thing I do to blow off steam and kill time, I don't really bother to "professionally produce" them like I would something else. It's not something I take the most seriously, just very basic stuff for fun, so if you hear some screw ups, volume levels off, perhaps an off key part, trust me, I'm aware of them. So here you go: Today I do the work of the Beach Boys. Today's songs are: 1. Wouldn't It Be Nice = This is an a cappella version I did sometime last year, I think? A very well known song, but I wanted to do just the voices, and if I have the inclination later on, I might add the music. Though I liked how it was with just the voices. 2. Surf's Up* = For those "SMiLE" fanatics, you'll know this one. The crown jewel of the aborted album (at least until 2004), this isn't quite the ordinary version you'd expect. There's a version on the "Good Vibrations" boxset (released in 1993) where there's a version of Brian singing it just on the piano. I liked that and so I wanted to record it in that styling and that's what this is. Just me on the piano singing it. * = no castration was required at 0:27 and 1:11 of the song. 3. Our Prayer = Another one for the "SMiLE" maniacs. For those aren't familiar, this isn't really a proper song per se, but rather a one minute harmony driven thing. Almost prayer like, but very powerful. 4. 'Til I Die = One of my favorite songs. Not quite a happy number, but one of the great Brian Wilson songs. Definitely a good counterargument to the people who felt they did nothing noteworthy after "Pet Sounds." 5. I Just Wasn't Made For These Times = Another one of my all-time favorite songs. This one is off "Pet Sounds" and always wanted to take a stab at this one. I divided it up into two versions, as you'll find out: the first 3+ minutes is the version, but the latter 3+ minutes is just an a cappella version. I removed the music. Liked the sound without it, as well. So, that's all I have for now. Give me your worst! You know you've been waiting.
Enjoy!

roblindblad:
Full size Korg Triton and a BIG electronic drumset.
That's nice. Although knowing the price of the Korg Triton alone, your bank account probably isn't AS nice, right now.
I remember when I wanted either that or a Yamaha Motif. Both fine keyboards.

RE: Favorite Lines From The Movies
From the first Naked Gun: Jane: I've heard police work is dangerous. Frank: It is. That's why I carry a big gun. Jane: Aren't you afraid it might go off accidentally? Frank: I used to have that problem. Jane: What did you do about it? Frank: I just think about baseball.

Sorry, that quote just came to mind, as I read that. Back to your regularly scheduled madness...
