He's never played Mull in the U.S. He saves it for the Canadians.
a drummer who works in a music store I shop at where i live (Fredericton) got to play Mull on stage last night. He's part of the Halifax Citadel Pipe Band that performed it at the show. http://dailygleaner.canadaeast.com/front/article/723609
But I did find a lot of the crowd were ROTTEN in the front area. Aggressive, inconsiderate, and overall horrid. Guess it just takes a few bad apples, eh?
I've never been to a 'general admission concert'. I would be afraid that situations like you described would be the norm. Did that guy end up blocking the view?
There were definitely some bad apples last night in the front of the stage. I was scared of that so thats why i bought the VIP. Didn't want to expose my two young sons to that. In Quebec we knew we weren't getting near the stage so wasn't much of a concern. At one point last night I turned to the group of 20 somethings (maybe younger) who were pushing and shoving to get by me that although I respect their desire to get as close as possible, it was really impolite and inconsiderate (actually I used harsher words than that) for the folks who had been there for 5 or more hours. I got a few thank yous and some hi fives from others around me for that. That seemed to help as they stayed put beside me at least until I backed off to my bleacher seat.
Local bands Wintersleep and Joel Plaskett Emergency were the openers as well as a folk artist/fiddler from Winnipeg. Being a maritimer I'm a bit bias but Joel Plaskett was great. Heres some video links to a couple of his songs.
I just love to read the stories that folks write about their experiences. DisneyKristie. that was an amazing post and thank you for sharing, don't worry it wasn't long winded at all. I read every word and truly enjoyed it. I hope you enjoy your stay in Halifax and experience some of our famous Maritime hospitality. I was in San Francisco last November for work and had another musical dream come true and visited the legendary Haight-Ashbury district. Just walking around that area and imagining the whole "summer of love" was amazing. This was my second Paul show after seeing him for the first time in Quebec last year and it was even more enjoyable the second time around. In Quebec we were so far away on the hill but last night we had VIP tickets in section 6 of the bleachers with a great sight line. Paul was hidden from our view while at the piano, but the giant screens showed us everything. When we first arrived I made the solo effort to the stage and was 7 or 8 rows back, but now into my 40's I found the crowd around me was too aggresive with the pushing and shoving as people tried to wiggle their way ahead of me. So I said to myself I could stay and be annoyed or join my family back at the VIP section and have a great memory of seeing Paul with my wife and kids. I opted to have a great memory with my family of a fantastic night. There were some changes in the set list for sure (although it wouldn't have mattered to me if there wasn't) In Quebec he played "Michelle", "Birthday", "Penny Lane". These were not in the Halifax show, but added were "Sing the Changes", "Daytripper" and "Mull of Kintyre" (a favourite of mine and my moms....I had tears in my eyes for that I can honestly say). While waiting in line at the gates we met a fan and poster on this site by the name of Mary (wish I knew her forum handle) from New Jersey who had caught the Vegas concert and is catching one of the New York shows at the new Citifield. it was a real pleasure to chat with her and hear of her experiences (she was front row at Quebec...quite a feat considering there were 300,000 people there). Paul did mention during the show last night that they were kicking off their "summer tour" so I guess that makes it official.....it is a TOUR!! To all you folks going to the future dates.....enjoy, have a fantastic time, and make some wonderful memories. -Rod
Took me a few days to find this forum again...kept trying off the Paul McCartney website, but links didn't work....glad I found it now. Man, I can't believe my good fortune. Been a Paul fan since I first "I've Had Enough" back when I was 13 or so (I'm 44 this year). Always wanted to see a Paul McCartney show but here in the Maritimes in Canada, it was never a possibility and getting tickets to a venue where he was playing when on tour (like Toronto or Boston) was about as easy as finding a needle in a haystack. Now for the second time in a little over a year I get to see my musical hero again. Went to the Quebec show last July (what a fantastic show that I still re-live in my mind almost daily) and at 9:00 last Friday I was on line at ticketatlantic.com and at 9:02 had my four VIP tickets for me and my family (my 9 and 13 yr old boys love his music as well). It's only a four hour drive to Halifax and we are pumped!!! Section 6 row 25....much better view than way back on the hill at The Plains Of Abraham in Quebec. What are the chances that playing in Nova Scotia, which has a strong Scottish history and culture that Sir Paul may enlist a local pipe band (of which there are many talented and skilled pipe bands to choose from here in Atlantic Canada) and add "Mull Of Kintyre" to the setlist? I really hope so. NYC Fan....glad to see your coming to the show as well, I followed your posts after the Quebec show and was totally caught up in your stories...thanks for sharing. -Rod
