News for America: Season 6 starts over Easter weekend: http://www.seattlepi.com/tvguide/436831_tvgif9.html?source=rss
Season 6 of Doctor Who will premiere on BBC America on Saturday, April 23, Entertainment Weekly reports. The first part of a two-part opener will air at 9/8c and will find the team in North America for the first time. The Doctor (Matt Smith), Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) will be on a secret summons that takes them from the Utah desert to the Oval Office in 1969.
Haven't seen any pre-publicity for the UK yet, must look round...... Martin

Nope, the BBC publicity machine still has a lid on this. We have a trailer for the new series tagged "Coming Soon". The web-site www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho is revisiting the last series episode by episode with the chance to watch again on BBC Three and iPlayer so things are building nicely. It's probably a bit early for the formal announcement of Easter schedules, but as BBC America has never had episodes before us it's likely that we'll be doing the same thing with the two part opener over the Easter period. I see the BBC America web-site for Doctor Who confirms this date: http://bbcamerica.com/shows/doctor-who/index.jsp And turning the tables - I cannot view the video clips previewing the series Makes a change Den Of Geek confirms this will be a simultaneous premiere (give or take time differences): http://www.denofgeek.com/television/805044/doctor_who_series_6_start_date_revealed.html And that the series will take a break after 4th June - so seven episodes to start. And speculation about Torchwood .... Bring it on!

So sorry that you cannot view the preview clip, how silly! BBCA has been showing this preview clip since Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol premiered in December. I am sure that you have seen it...
Martin, thank you so much for posting this information! Once again this past Sunday we had a look around for this information and came up empty-handed. So happy to find that you have posted this here today. Thrilled to have confirmation about that clip I saw on BBCA in December indicating the same premiere date as the UK. Never saw the clip again, but felt sure that I had heard correctly. So excited to find that we will not have to wait weeks or even days to share the new series with our UK friends...Thank you BBCA!!! "Bring it on" indeed, Martin!!! You just made the triplets day!!! Cannot wait to give them the good news when I pick them up from school. This news will make for a pleasant afternoon - LOVE it!!! Thanks again!!! -

Thanks for linking the unseen clip to this YouTube clip. Yes that's exactly the same as here in the UK. I was just curious as to whether the US "pitch" was the same as the UK preview clip. One thing that interested me visiting the BBCA Doctor Who website was the unfettered commercialism with a shop for DVDs, books and even toys. The BBC charter and UK law prohibits any such side-selling here in the UK - across all TV channels. The product is in the commercial market, shops and on-line but TV programming and programme web-sites cannot push linked product as the BBC can overseas in markets such as the US. Still excited today Martin

You're welcome, Martin. Other than the station identification of BBC One and BBC America HD (at the end), to date we have not found any differences in pitches between the States and the UK clips. We did note one Doctor Who Christmas station identification difference during the holiday season of 2009. BBC America's station identification had an added sunburst during the sleigh ride. BBC One -

Interesting that you would point this out, Martin. I once wondered about this difference as well. My curiosity about this difference was a result of my questioning why BBCA is a paid channel here (not free), yet I cannot access video (audio only) on the BBC iPlayer. After some research, I found that those laws you discuss do not allow the money gathered from the British TV licensing fees to fund channels outside of the UK. BBCA relies upon funds gathered from advertising and product sales.

Still excited today
Same here! As suspected, bringing forth news that the new series premiere would be on the same day as the UK made you the man with the triplets!

Our major fund raising weekend coming up, hosted by UK comedians Red Nose Day raises funds for a variety of charities both overseas and in the UK. The highlight is a whole evening of dedicated broadcasting in the form of a Telethon Friday night. Many TV shows record short specials which are broadcast throughout the night and Doctor Who is no exception. The preview clips are showing the shortests of snippets from the short film made by the Doctor Who team confirming their involvement. In past years the clips have made their way to YouTube - usually officially by the BBC - to continue encouraging donations.
That one with Catherine Tate in one of her alter-ego's - filmed before she joined the cast as a companion. This one where David Tennant's Doctor meets Peter Davison's Doctor: And here is the preview clip for this years: I'll try to source a link Saturday..... Martin -
Three Red Nose 2011 appearances, a two parter story and a final "live" appearance later:
All uploads official BBC uploads. Concludes with the name of the Easter episode - The Impossible Astronaut Martin -
Martin, thanks so much for taking the time to post the Red Nose Day clips...we really enjoyed seeing these! Lovely to see so much support for this very worthy cause.

Thank you Martin.... I can't wait Very much enjoyed those clips!

The 2011 BBC Proms season has just been announced. No Doctor Who Prom this year - they do seem to be making this a biennial event now. A strong programme for families though: http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/whats-on/2011/categories/for-families The Doctor Who slot seems to be filled with The Human Planet prom: http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/whats-on/2011/july-23/13 Which has a Saturday evening/Sunday lunch double showing in the same manner as Doctor Who. A strong Paul link though as that music score is written by Paul's occasional collaborator Nitin Sawhney. Not for me though. Martin
