TOTALLY UNEXPECTED songs/moments @ McCartney concerts

I wonder why Paul only played Bluebird once on the Up and Coming Tour? I think he only played Every Night at one show too?

I know this thread seems to be more dominated by post beatles era fans' surprises but did it not surprise anyone else when in 2002 he performed Mother Natures son? I mean if I were picking a set list I would have never guessed that one even if you would have said pick 5 off the white album. Like I said this thread appears to be more slanted to post Beatles but you know the Beatles were a great band and there are still many diamonds in the rough he could pull out from that era.
That one did pop in my head when I'd first put this list together. I agree with ya'... ...in fact, I TOTALLY agree!

Wow...just once? I was still hoping for "Helen Wheels" when the Band On The Run remaster came out last year.

A few could be added to 2005, possibly.
-
A Day in the Life should be on that list. I was there in Liverpool in 2008 when he first played it, and man, NO ONE saw that coming. I heard so many gasps as those first few chords played!

[quote="cfergoid"]I wonder why Paul only played Bluebird once on the Up and Coming Tour? I think he only played Every Night at one show too? Every Night was only played once during the Up and Coming Tour...the first show in Arizona. It was played in soundcheck quite often. However, Bluebird was played twice during this tour...Nov. 11 and Nov. 22 in S. America.

Done. In fact, when I saw Paul in Atlanta '09 with my good buddy -- who's more of a Beatles fan than Macca-fan ( : ) -- he IMMEDIATELY recognized/reacted to it from the very first chord.

Josh, remember that comprehensive spreadsheet you did last year? Should any of those songs be on here?

Ah, let me consult it... Here's a few that surprised me. There's a few one offs (not sure if they count) but here goes. In chronological order! 2002 - From a Lover to a Friend 2003 - Birthday 2002/3 - Foxy Lady (not sure if this counts or when he first started doing it!) 2003 - Honey Hush 2003 - Honey Don't 2003 - I Lost My Little Girl 2003 - Maggie May 2008 - Something (full band version) 2009 - (I Want to) Come Home 2010 - Tequila 2010 - Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying Them's the ones that surprised me! Infact Audi PM me your email address and I can send you the fully up to date list through if you want. Then you can have a look!

A Day in the Life certainly shocked me, I couldn't believe it when I heard those opening chords!

Certainly will do! 2002 - From a Lover to a Friend I'm not sure if "new" songs should be included. If he sprang this one on us, let's say, at the Vegas show, then it would most definitely make this list. 2003 - Birthday Agreed. 2002/3 - Foxy Lady (not sure if this counts or when he first started doing it!) Agreed. 2003 - Honey Hush 2003 - Honey Don't These are Paul's primal passions -- he's likely to do those ANYTIME. 2003 - I Lost My Little Girl Agreed. 2003 - Maggie May Are you referring to the Rod Stewart classic? Wow! 2008 - Something (full band version) 2009 - (I Want to) Come Home The updated "Something" was a nice surprise. 2010 - Tequila 2010 - Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying Agreed. I'll update the master list a bit later. Gotta' shave my head...having Sunday brunch with some friends. Thanks, Joshy!

You're welcome!

Indeed, we're having real food/champagne, etc. for brunch. Finished my grooming and those tedious crunches/push-ups... ...updating the list.

You're totally right! That's my favorite song on Sgt. Pepper, and I lit up when I saw Paul do this one in Memphis '93!

Venus and Mars:
When Paul said " the next one is for the Wings' Fans" during the 2005 concert in DC, I fell head over heals as he started singing "Too Many People" ! I felt it in my bones ! Best surprise EVER This is what happiness feels like !
This post is what this thread is all about.

Wow that list is looking huge now. There have been some awesome surprizes over the years, hasn't there! those songs would make a brilliant setlist on their own! Oh by the way did you get that email Audi?

For me its gotta be his O2 London show in Dec 2009, my first macca concert, got to hear Mull of Kintyre , Wonderful Xmas Time and A Day in the Life, amongst others. Only quibble was that he left out ' I Saw her Standing there' which would have gone down a storm.
