How Does Your Garden Grow?

Peonies should be blooming any time now. Starting to get rosebuds & roses blooming!

Had a feature on BBC TV Breakfast about our early summer. A lot of plants are confused by the current weather conditions and are blooming a month early. Nice to see but it don't half upset the way of nature as the necessary insects are not around to do the usual pollination etc I'm just waiting to see what my bedding border turns out like as I did my usual trick of going to a car boot sale and picking up a half dozen trays of promising bedding plants - without any guide of planting spacing, colour or foliage size. Completely random each year, but low input - back to the sofa for the F1 Grand Prix racing. Martin PS. GardenMan looked out the lawn this morning and said "Nah, it'll keep another week"

Went to the "hidden" nursery this afternoon. I call it that, 'cos its tucked away on a back road & if you blink, you'd miss it. I wanted some pink lily of the valley but they're already sold out. Love the scents of some of the herbs they have. Going to get some marigolds to plant in with the roses soon.

sweet peas do it for me

I am ready to stomp all over "Tractor Man"! He mowed down my beautiful giant patch of cat mint! He said he mistookit for weeds! He did promise to get me a new catnip plant but I had that one for 3 years. Grrrr! My mini irises are starting to bloom.

Triplets Love Paul:
Last week brought the last of the lilacs and wisteria...sooooo beautiful! Rose garden in full bloom - a sea of red and yellow roses...absolutely gorgeous!!!
Would love to see your landscape. Our roses are all in bloom, as well, and the mock orange bushes behind three of them are laden with white blooms. So pretty. Your red and yellow roses sound lovely.

We've had sooooo much rain...yesterday 1.5". So the backyard is rather damp ( ) to say the least...but I wonder if my tomato plants survived or floated away? Must check on them today.

Lilacs have just gone by and presently PEONIES and ROSES are replete with buds, right on the verge of bursting forth into a panoply of gorgeous hues of pink, purple and red. I just adore weeding round the LAVENDER plants at this time....the scent is sooo intoxicating!!
-
I just planted some Lilac Boomerangs ..... they are suppose to bloom .... then are quiet .... then re-bloom in the summer or early fall .... almost like a longer lilac ..... and they are smaller .... up to 4-5 feet at most. With all the rain .... so far they look okay.

As I gaze out upon my back garden from my chair, I can scarce take it all in--its' so magnificent!!...a veritable Garden of Eden of sorts. Peonies have suddenly burst forth from their unusually huge buds this year, to reveal a smashing wave of pink blush ops: color to contrast with the already blossomed vivid Red Poppies, and rather majestic looking deep purple Veronica plants , almost commanding your attention with their stately upright stalks!! Lavender is also at its' peak at the moment, and I would be remiss if I didn't mention my most favorite delicate little herb plant Lemon Thyme, with its adorable, miniature leaves and tiny sweet lavender buds, spread out wide, cascading like a carpet round the perimeter of the garden. I just love to take it in the palm of my hand....squeezing it ever so gently, until it releases its' essence...drenching my fingers with its' heavenly scent!---then I just savor and drink in the aroma-----out of the world!!!

Sounds cool Clau! My fuchsias are beginning to open slowly, plus some new gazanias have opened and they look great. Just the other day I had to tie the sunflowers to a stick so they can grow properly nice and tall.
-
Thanks...you would be quite impressed if you saw it, I'm sure. Oh, and yes, its alway good to have some support the plants for the maximum growth possible...then they can come to fruition much more quickly and to your utmost satisfaction.

Daisies should be blooming soon. Our veggie garden is wildlife proof. Nice tall fence all around & in back. It's even groundhog proof!
-
Our garden looks very nice at the moment all bushy and healthy
-
Pumpkins & gourds leaves are coming up
-
I came home from work and all the lilies were blooming, yellow, orange and pink...

finally coming together. Weather just started getting sunny after lots of cool days and record rain.. Just planted my dahlias because of weather. but gardens are all planted and put in a new cobble stone patio and had a cap poured on my retaining wall..than the concrete truck ran over my new electric gate opener. So that was about a 400.00 hit. My abby road gate was finished in Dec and it just got put up a month ago and now this last week the gate opener burned up and than the hit and run of my key pad. He killed it dead.

Beginning to regret this now A combination of personal commitments and the return of wintry rainy conditions means I no long need a lawnmower I need a Combine Harvester And heavy rain is forecast yet again today. I always start the summer season commited to "Keep It Short, Keep It Simple" but always fail miserably in that intent. Anybody got a goat that wants grazing? My random selection of car boot bedding plants have come together nicely, an odd palate of orange, purple and scarlet but still pleasing to the eye. This year we've been slug and snail free, might be due to the selection of plants this year. Last year I had to spend a period most nights redirecting a small army of slugs and snails marching across the lawn towards what they viewed as an all-you-can-eat buffet. Martin
