Trayvon Martin

This whole thing is becoming a big mess. The bottom line: Two grieving parents only want justice for the murder of their unarmed 17-year-old son. And, yes, sometimes civil disobedience is a necessary evil. But no one, not even Al Sharpton, endorses mass murder.
Nothing good is going to come of this poor youth's death. The hope is that his tragic death will bring about the changes that are necessary to the laws to prevent anything this horrendous from happening again.
As an aside - in case there's any confusion - my gut reaction is that Zimmerman should've been arrested, even if the law ultimately supported a not guilty verdict (which the law itself still has me scratching my head). But my protest is what the media and certain political figures have turned this into...And my protests against this shouldn't be interpreted as being in Zimmerman's corner on this

Rich, I understand your points, for sure. I hate people on either side of the political landscape using an innocent kid's death as a platform. Are there laws that need to be changed? Yes. Don't use this poor teenager as a stepping stone for political agendas, though. He and his family deserve better than that.

Fair enough.

I agree with you Rich...and I live in Chicago so hearing about MORE NEEDLESS DEATHS here it is becoming a day to day thing. Another point WTF are people like Spike Lee getting involved in this for? And tweeting the wrong address? Even if he had tweeted the right address??? What is this??? I agree Zimmey should have been arrested & taken in for questioning but becoming vigilantes??? oh my...and if people are killed will he too be questioned(spike lee)? "Lee sorry for tweeting wrong address of Trayvon killer 1 day ago Spike Lee has apologized to the elderly couple in Florida whose address he retweeted over the weekend. The couple has been staying at a hotel since Lee joined the vigilante efforts to avenge Trayvon Martin, and tweeted their address instead of shooter George Zimmerman's. Elaine and David McClain, who have hired lawyers, have probably heard about the apology, but it's unlikely that they saw it, since Lee tweeted it: "I Deeply Apologize To The McClain Family For Retweeting Their Address. It Was A Mistake. Please Leave The McClain's In Peace." Our guess is the McClains, both in their 70s, aren't on Twitter, let alone following Lee. Roseanne Barr, meanwhile, is the latest idiot celebrity to tweet an address. She tweeted the real address of Zimmerman's parents."

Anger and decades of police ineptness make people do foolish things sometimes.

There's an internet movement to get folks to post photos of themselves wearing hoodies, like this poor young guy was when he was shot. Several of my FB friends have posted photos of themselves wearing hoodies...
-
My oldest college friend has a 16-year-old, blond-haired, blue-eyed son who wears hoodies all the time. It has more meaning for us all right now. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Truer words could not be spoken right now.

zimmerman wasn't a police officer...or even remotely close to being one nor, was trayvon a criminal...or even remotely close to being one

No, but the police chief and lead investigator in the case overrode the initial police report from the scene, which insinuated the shooting occurred without cause (don't recall the exact wording from the original police report) There was clearly something botched right at the start - it's up to you to judge whether it was some intentional scheme or simply a thoroughly ill fated bonehead move

Nope. Wasn't he a Neighborhood Watch Captain?

I think Audi meant the police bundled the case up front - apparently the officer at the scene thought enough of the incident to deem the shooting occurred without cause only to have his/there report overturned or overruled by the chief...I don't believe he thought at any time that Zimmerman was some officer of the law. I'd like to hear more from the initial officer who felt compelled to handcuff Zimmerman and bring him in for questioning and what he thinks about his report basically be thrown in the proverbial circular file

Today, NBC offered an apology for basically throwing fuel on the (racial) fire http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/04/03/nbc-issues-apology-edited-zimmerman-11-call/ While this is not proof that racial profiling wasn't involved, I'm willing to be that NBC's 'edit' played last week convinced a lot of people in the court of public opinion that there was no doubt racial profiling was involved...and now's it's come down to the fact that if by chance, the investigation concludes Zimmerman shouldn't be arrest, there's going to a lot hell to pay in this country, with a lot of innocent people getting hurt....Thanks NBC

This was definitely the worst kind of journalism, and not their first offense in this realm. Most major networks have at least one demerit in this area...of course, with an issue of this importance that has gained such nationwide attention, mistakes like this do 100 times more harm.

Regardless, there is a very real racial dynamic to this in the eyes of black Americans. It is my belief, and it seems more and more evident that Trayvon was judged by the color of his skin. Not the content of his character or behavior.
