Today, NBC offered an apology for basically throwing fuel on the (racial) fire http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/04/03/nbc-issues-apology-edited-zimmerman-11-call/ While this is not proof that racial profiling wasn't involved, I'm willing to be that NBC's 'edit' played last week convinced a lot of people in the court of public opinion that there was no doubt racial profiling was involved...and now's it's come down to the fact that if by chance, the investigation concludes Zimmerman shouldn't be arrest, there's going to a lot hell to pay in this country, with a lot of innocent people getting hurt....Thanks NBC
Regardless, there is a very real racial dynamic to this in the eyes of black Americans. It is my belief, and it seems more and more evident that Trayvon was judged by the color of his skin. Not the content of his character or behavior.
Very true, Audi. Someone walking to the store and talking to his girlfriend on the phone shouldn't need to be afraid for their life.

Problem is that it's pitting a 'blacks vs whites' thing when in fact, it involved two races/ethnic groups that have had their share of oppression in the past...I never heard the term 'white cuban' or 'white hispanic' before this case ever began...evidently his last name doesn't fit the profile of who he is...and since I am white, but have a Puerto Rican father, this strikes a nerve on several fronts...and then in acknowledging that I lean towards the right and can readily so how politics is playing into, it adds to that struck nerve even more so

The shooter is half Peruvian, half Caucasian His father is a retired judge, if I'm not mistaken. I'm taking out the race issue, to be honest, and looking at it as a case of a young guy in a hoodie getting shot because he wanted to go to the store. It could have involved two black men, two white men, two hispanic men, two gorillas for that matter. No matter what race these folks were, one man holding a gun shot an unarmed teenager. Period.

That would've been the smart approach for the media as well - however, as to the way they have handled it, there's going to be a lot of violence around this country if they conclude Zimmerman acted within the law

The race issue should be irrelevant, but you're right that many in the mainstream media have used it to sell newspapers. If Zimmerman isn't charged, or is found innocent, there are some rough times ahead.

Rest assured, I make it a point to admonish any person of color who makes a racist comment -- emphasizing that the goal is to be part of the solution -- not the problem.

Here's the man responsible for changing the course of this case from being one of tragic loss to racial hatred (actually, that responsibility would be left to Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Spike Lee - but this guy spoon fed it to the gullible public): http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthew-sheffield/2012/04/06/breaking-nbc-fires-producer-who-created-false-zimmerman-audio

The outrage festered when a murderer continued -- and STILL continues -- to roam the streets, probably armed, for the killing of an innocent, unarmed black teenager. That producer was wrong to do that -- but the outrage was a pre-existing matter. You have to consider the whole scheme of the things. Look at the Rodney King verdict in '91: The police officers ON VIDEOTAPE were beating the crap out of a defenseless black man. And an all-white jury in Simi Valley, CA -- nowhere near where the brutality occurred -- let the officers walk. Also, Obama's election reignited the ugliest racism that I thought America could no longer produce. Have you read the racist comments in newsgroup message boards lately? They are fraught with n-bombs and references to monkeys, apes and "gangsta." These are YOUR crowd, Rich -- and I wish more so-called conservatives would admonish that behavior. I call out black people who do the same.

They're not 'my' crowd. No one in my 'crowd' (which includes conservatives, liberal, black, white, hispanics amongst others, men, women, etc etc etc) would ever speak about any one in that tone

Which party is Al Sharpton affiliated with?

The party that likes to keep the focus on justice, instead of covering up law-enforcement ineptness.

Ah...I see...such as calling for a bounty on a man's head who's only evidence of racial profiling comes from an intentionally edited tape recording
-
George Zimmerman is now in custody and being charged with second degree murder...

And, thus, a self-defeating riot has been prevented.

George Zimmerman is in custody because enough information has been gathered to warrant it.

George Zimmerman is in custody because enough information has been gathered to warrant it.
With no thanks to the Sanford PD...excluding the cop who'd initially questioned Zimmerman and was convinced that Zimmerman is a fat liar.

I withdraw the term "fat" -- otherwise, I stand by my comment. Good advice, nonetheless.
