We are discussing the new membership card numbering here: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=83312 So I thought I'd bump this delightful topic by way of comparison. Reading back through it seems that the first club members received newletters rather than what became the Club Sandwich magazine. Were they regular from the outset or just ad-hoc related to promotions? It seems Club Sandwich was a two monthly production with each edition spanning two calendar months. Did that follow UK magazine practice i.e. when would the edition have been sent out? Here in the UK a magazine with Feb/March on the cover would have actually been been despatched in January - August /September in July and so forth...... Was that the case with Club Sandwich, was there an actual despatch date which gave a reliable delivery day? I've read here they were greatly anticipated..... Martin
The delivery was always reliable, i can't ever remember missing any, as in my other post, i can't remember how often they were despatched, i would have to go look them out but i'm sure someone will tell us still pretty sure we got them 4 times a year, Summer, Winter etc..
-
It started out as a two monthly magazine and later on, as Robert says, became available four times per year (spring, summer, autumn, Christmas/winter).

was the fun club first advertised on Red Rose Speedway? 1973!! btw great piece of memorabilia

I don't think so. RRS was first released in the US on 30th April 1973 and in the UK on 4th May 1973 and as the letter pre-dates those release dates by a couple of months, the first advertisement (or press news report) must have been elsewhere.

Fantastic. One of the people on a Macca list to which I belong is member #4 in the Wings Fun Club.

It sounds like you joined having responded to the ad on the back of the RRS album. It would be interesting to know the source which those initial enquirers were responding too though? Incidentally i joined in January 1974 but luckily managed to quickly acquire those earlier newsletters. Some trivia about the early set up at the Fun Club. It seems that Lucy didn't make the move to London when the fun club was relocated to Paul's Soho office a few weeks after she sent out that letter. Instead Claire (Clare) ran the club for a few months until August 1973 when Nicky took over. As Wings became more popular and the workload increased, Sue became the US secretary leaving Nicky to concentrate on the UK operation. Then in the spring of 1975, Nicky left and Sue took over the whole operation in London. And there she stayed until the club closed in 1998. I wonder what became of Lucy, Claire and Nicky? Are they still Macca fans?
-
Is Sue still with Paul?
-
I still have my Club Sandwiches. We got a Fall edition then Winter Then Spring Then Summer. Yes they Came about 2 Months apart. And I could rely on mid-moth as far as getting them went. The only Person I ever got a letter from was Sue Cavanaugh.

Its a pity that they've never been interviewed,....they'd probably have a lot of very interesting memories about the early days of the fun club and wings.
