what was all that I was babbling about!? Hey everyone, I say lets all start rallying around illwobble to bring him back into writing the hits he's capable of! illwobble needs to come out of retirement! I know how it is though man, believe me kids.
Thanks for the encouragement again KPU. Always appreciated. Don't worry, I've not stopped writing entirely. Just a little slower for the moment. The one I'm writing at the moment might not be so much your cup of tea I'm afraid (not that I can second guess your cup of tea that accurately - you have very intriguing tastes!). It's more a slow brooding one. Ideally I'd like to try to somehow record a demo without guitar but with bass and trings or something, but that might not work out. As for the other two I'm working on there's still a LOT to do on those. One of those is Big Fat Hairy Monster which you're still welcome to take a shot at.

you totally should just buy a cheap acoustic guitar, and just learn to play it, have magnus show you the basics. that would be sweet for you! in any case hell yeah do share if you complete anything. I would like to think of something for Big Fat Hairy Monster.. but I'd like to do a lot of things I have to have something just hit me, can't be asked to actually consciously try to think of something

Exactly! Consciously trying to think of something is something I'll always go to great lengths to avoid! Learning guitar is on my list (and Deb already owns one so no excuse there) but - fun as it is - that takes serious time and effort to get any good to be useful for anything! Maybe you or someone else on the board could try to give me a brief to write something though. Some of my best songs were written that way. You set me the challenge to write the song that became [
]]( ]<strong>Jonathan</strong> . "Dance-tonight" asked me to write , and someone else I knew asked me to write a song called [url= Magic Peas[/url"> so maybe that's the way to go. Any challenges welcome! Once the Sun comes and I get a few more uninterrupted nights of sleep under my belt I'm sure I'll be raring to go!! -

I know what you mean, and possibly you're right, but having small children does change things! The luxury of being awake and creative in the middle of the night is inevitably dulled by several months of interrupted nights and general sleep deprivation! Do you have a family? Last year when I was writing more songs, I'd write most of my lyrics while I was waiting at the park for my daughter to go down the slide for the 35th time.

yeah, i do, two boys, 3 & 5, so i know what you're talking about. i have not had a decent night's sleep since 2007 that's why i said "used to write", because i don't anymore... but they're soo worth it it's so cute seeing the little one playing the ukulele like a guitar, it's just the right size for him. he's good at singing too, he hits each and every note i give him, so that's really cool.

Ah, ok, well no reason why you shouldn't start writing again! Do you have any of your original songs available to listen to anywhere? It is all very cute I agree. My little girl is very funny. [
]Penguin](http://snd.sc/10fzZgW]<strong>Here's her</strong> having a go at my song [url=<a href=) (original here)[/url"> although nowadays she only likes me to sing Magic Peas to her, and gets angry when I get any lyrics wrong. She's actually made me learn the lyrics to that song!! She also gets really annoyed when I mix up the lyrics to Hey Jude, which again she apparently knows better than me . -

Finally, I have new songs for you! Two of them! These both have proper basslines for the first time on my recordings. Bringing my friend Rob to play guitar meant Magnus could play his bass ukelele. 1) Lorraine:
This is a silly bluesy type song I quite enjoyed putting together. Lyrics: Lorraine I saw you dancing in the rain Well, the rain it was a-pouring There was really no ignoring You dancing in the rain Lorraine You were just dancing in the rain Dancing so joyfully and freely No, I wasn't being leery I just saw you as I waited in the rain Lorraine I never saw you there again Although I often would go back there Hoping to recapture That magical moment again Lorraine You were spinning and dancing in the rain Oh, you looked so cool and carefree You prob'ly didn't see me As you danced there in the soft warm summer rain Dance with me in the rain Never mind those raindrops Come and dance with me there till the rain stops (x2) [pause] Lorraine You got me dancing in the rain At first I felt a little stupid Prob'ly looked nothing like you did As I danced there in the driving autumn rain Lorraine Now people think I've gone insane And although perhaps it won't concern ya I caught hypothermia As I danced there in the cold hard winter rain Lorraine I saw you dancing in the rain Well, the rain it was a-pouring There was really no ignoring You dancing in the rain -
- Surrender: This is a very slow moody number with more of a James Bond type feel. Lyrics: So far My struggle's won me nothing but scars It's been a losing battle from the start And nobody's to blame It's hard When things that you have fought for fall apart Time to turn back, but you don't have the heart And you can't stand the shame And now The only thing that's left is to surrender The only thing that's left is to surrender The only thing that's left is to... Carry on Even though you know it's probably all wrong You've been going the wrong way all along But you can't turn back now How can I Admit what I believed in was a lie When part of me would mu-ch rather die And part of me just can't see how Until The only thing that's left is to surrender (x3) Obviously The dreams I had will not come true for me But there will still be something ? I can see Bigger better things to come All these lies All these delightful things I should despise If I can put them all to death then I can rise The new life is a better one So now The only thing that's left is to surrender (x3)

Hey what is up Jon! Man you are a really good songwriter, very clever. I think Lorraine is great, I like the way your lines flow and sort of (ill)wobble off kilter a little bit, great style man, and also very clever rhyming you do. That's one of your better songs I'd say. Props to Magnus for his bassline, really fits the style you do the song in. As for Surrender, also a well written song, beautiful in it's way. Because I sort of know your writing process, you coming up with the lyrics and the melody, sort of Jim Morrison style, and like the Doors did, you guy are really able to select the right chords to fit the melodies to fit and support you come up with. Thats really impressive to me, and I'd say you are getting better and better at doing that. you nail all the right chords IMO. nice job man, thanks for posting them bro

What can I say? Thanks again for listening. I'm really happy with the way these turned out - especially Lorraine. Looking forward to trying that one out live some time. Having a bass in there really opens things up and gives a much better sound, especially with these two since they're based around those basslines really. Working out all the individual chords and the bassline was the most satisfying part of writing Lorraine (not that I'm in any way trying to claim back the credit you gave Magnus Magnus, who deserves all props available always - he's a great musician). As for the rhyming - clever? Lorraine - the rain - again - insane.... if you say so!!

Rough demo of new bluesy song:
I wrote the chorus several months ago and some may have already herd that. This is finished now, performed with guitar and ukelele. Big Fat Hairy Monster The other day I saw a big fat hairy monster With a big fat scary head And now I'm scared That that mean old monster wants to see me dead The other day I saw a big fat scary monster With big fat hairy legs And now I'm scared That that mean old monster wants to see me dead Stay inside all day. No, I don't want to go out. I'm not going out today. There's people out there who've got guns and knives. We need to guard our lives. I saw the papers yesterday. Something about some psycho killer dragging little kids away. The other day I saw a big fat scary monster With a big fat hairy head And now I'm scared That that mean old monster wants to see me dead Keep looking around, and keep those ears pricked for the least suspicious sound There's people out there who might beat me, rob me, defraud me or eat me! I watched the news the other day. Looks like the whole world's full of terrorists trying to blow us all away. A lot of things I could do, but I might fail or just not be able to. There's people out there who'd do better than me. Plus way too much bureaucracy. I heard a bunch of people say 'bout how the government's trying to take all of our hard-earned rights away. -
I like what you did there, very group thinking it might appear to me on the arrangement? and just execution of the moves as a band, whose part does what. Non-Stick Penguins in the house!! I guess is what's happening way to lay down the tracks. you wrote some nice verses in there, well played sir Hey can you post the guitar chords here sometime?

Thanks! Yeah we do very well for almost no rehearsal time! Here are the chords, but although maybe I'll email you them too as you can't see them line up on here. That passing Ebdim chord (Eb/F#/A) is a tricky one there, just on that SEE ME dead bit! Thanks! would you mind if I record a track over the top of you guys', adding another guitar and perhaps some vocal? I think this weekend I'll be able to get it done. I had a guitar rhythm idea!

COOL!! That would be great. Shame the performances on the track aren't a bit tighter, but go for it! Can't wait to hear what you've dreamt up!

yeah man, this project just got bumped up to tonight! as I will have about an hour window with noone home but me, so I'll take advantage. in roughly 3 hours I'll be laying down the BFHM groove! playing along with you guys, you guys did it pretty tight. I want to give a John/Paul style, like One After 909 style accent vocal with yours, along with a rhythm guitar. rhythmically I hope I can get the vocal right! stay tuned

Looking forward to hearing this one -- before n' after.

Jon's a good songwriter, to my ear I'm drawn to his sort of alternative/folk vibe. maybe he's more folk but I always hear opportunities to take a more alternative slant in his stuff. and he writes pretty bulky melodies, often not subtle, and it offers stuff to latch onto. a couple Stammers covers I did, which I'm sure you've heard, paying tribute to the melodies. Jonathan (Shudder)
Penguin (w Mr Moonlight interlude) edit: Jon sorry for oddly speaking about you in the 3rd person lol like some long lost far away writer!
