Sandy Relief ConcertCouple of observations and note. First, it appears to me Europeans seem much more excited to hear Wings/Solo songs than Americans from these videos. Second, the band seems more energized when they are playing something different. I will note that I was at concert (Charlotte - 1993) when he did "Another Day".
Well, the audiences in Europe use to be kind of "wilder" than the USA ones, that use to scream but not sing so much as we do here. (And in Japan it's all scream and almost no singing). BTW When is Paul playing Japan again? And 2nd, Paul seems more energized too with the new things. I watched youtube videos of a concert and Paul seemed kind of bored of doing all the songs. He never moved or changed his face. Then they did 1985 (then was new) and he started kind of dancing at the piano and smiling...

Predictions, kiddies? 2013?
Well, it looks like returning to "solo Paul" is possible, after his last performances. So, well, any of his non-Beatle songs. 1989 was Return to Pepperland, this would be Return to... Mamunia or whatever... Beautiful Night, No More Lonely Nights, Backseat of My Car, etc etc etc etc etc you know... "we believe that we can't be wrong"
-
Maybe Grohl has a desire to see that, too -- and maybe he just may be the one to convince Paul to do that.

I agree, he seems to really enjoy himself doing different songs from Wings/Solo career which makes you wonder why he does not do it more often. I understand he feels "obligated" to do a bunch of Beatle songs for the first time people but I always thought he could mix up the other songs more often. The other thing is that McCartney really does seem surprised when he gets a good audience reaction from his Wings/Solo songs.

Admittedly, I saw Paul perform "Another Day" on that same tour in Memphis, yankeefan7 -- and when he'd introduced that song and then went into it, I had no idea what song it was -- but I noticed a nice reaction from many in the audience. I felt very not-in-the-know. Also, in St. Louis last month, there were two couples on either side of me; all six of us (including my bf and me) were on our feet for "Mrs. Vandebilt."
Yeah, McCartney needs to see people loving his songs from Wings/Solo career. When I heard him do "Come and Get It", it made me hope that one day in his acoustic part of show he would do song "On The Wings of A Nightengale" which he wrote for the Everly Brothers.

"On The Wings..." ranks up there with Paul's best. That would be a great addition to the acoustic set! And a shocker!

Yeah, I deliberately left out the Unplugged version, mainly because it was two years prior to the New World Tour, but I appreciate your sharing this, nonetheless.

When the opening chords of Venus and Mars hit the audience at opening night in Phoenix 2010, there was an absolute explosion. Nobody saw that one coming!! And later, when Paul played a song for 'the Wings fans', which happened to be my all time favorite, "1985", another blast of excitement! I think even McCartney was a little surprised at the reaction. Second best surprise was 1993 in KC, when he encored with "Kansas City".

I know I'm a bit late, but are you sure "Ain't no sunshine" was performed on the 1993 New World Tour? It was a part of the setlist for the so called secret tour in 1991.

Absolutely sure.

Absolutely sure.
Yep, you're right. Been flicking through one of my books, and it says "Ain't no sunshine" was part of the setlist for the European leg of the tour.

Only goes to show how trust worthy the printed word is : BTW: why is f*l*i*c*k*ing through one of my books censored?
-
I was definitely wondering what word you could've used to get censored.

Although it doesn't quite qualify to be in the main list, I was definitely NOT expecting to hear "Birthday" at the St. Louis 2012 show. It was a very, very nice surprise. It was my fourth time seeing him, but it was my first time experiencing "Birthday" live.

I too was surprised to hear "Birthday" in St. Louis. Definately does not play it often. According to the set list (see link) it may have been an afterthought...as was "My Valentine". Neither were on the set list that evening. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j129/ngedjc/StLouis_setlist001.jpg
