RIP...for all that have passed

Sigh... Dabney Coleman was great. I had no idea he was 92! And seeing that "9 to 5" clip also reminded me how kick-ass Dolly Parton was in that movie. I'm surprised she didn't have a bigger movie career.

RIP Richard M. Sherman. He and his brother were flippin' geniuses -- the songs for "Mary Poppins" (my absolute favorite childhood movie) are about as close to perfect as movie songs can be.
If you need proof, just watch "Mary Poppins" and then watch the remake-masquerading-as-a-sequel, "Mary Poppins Returns." The latter movie has multiple problems (like stealing half its ideas from the first film), but the worst is that the songs are just boring. It's really, really hard to create songs that are not only memorable, but also illuminate the characters and advance the story. The Sherman brothers did that better than nearly anyone short of Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim (and even Sondheim sometimes gave the memorable part short shrift).
Hail and farewell.
