MMT with a slightly different beginning...
Ya' know, if Paul is going to publicly denounce marijuana, he should really stop the "oh, something smells good out there" quips. And Chris is right: Neither Paul nor the band was on point this particular performance. And I couldn't help but notice the large number of people...leaving. I thought Beatle songs were supposed to be guaranteed, fail-proof crowd-pleasers. He sounds great on "Hi, Hi, Hi"...ironically.
But he didn't publicly denounce pot smoking. Ever. He said he had decided personally to stop, for his daughter. That's not denouncing it. That's making his personal choice. And in that same interview he mentioned that he has publicly supported legalization for years and still did but that it was time for someone else to pick up that torch. I don't think his views on weed have changed at all. What's changed is a touchy child-custody situation, and a new wife whose brother died of a drug overdose. I respect the fact that he's respecting those things.

Just saw this great review in the SF Weekly (it disses Hi Hi Hi but is otherwise a terrific read) http://blogs.sfweekly.com/shookdown/2013/08/paul_mccartney_outside_lands_8.php And get a load of this pic of Paul signing one of 2 girls he brought up on stage. According to the story he signed while "hugging them from the back, of course. His proximity drew a few 'ooohs' from the crowd, but Macca feigned innocence: 'It was the only way to get the angle!' he chirped." The man was, is, and always will be a born flirt. I would be grinning like a loon, too, if I was her.

Oh it was adorable! You couldn't help but be so excited for those two women! I thought the first gal was going to faint when Paul put his arm around her, too cute!

I wasn't there obviously but wow that crowd looked like it sucked. I could be totally wrong but by the videos and all the people walking around it's like nobody cared.

Audi, as Michelley remarked, Paul has never denounced marijuana. His current stance is I imagine more to do with his custody arrangement.

...not sure why he added that one back in...it's so weird out of the opening number.
In the '93 tour it was played towards the end of the main set list.
And it was strange then too!
Having attended that tour, I don't agree at all.

This is a thousand times worse than anything Paul has done recently:
Yep! They really went out on top, didn't they? Just kidding. With crappy sound and yelling audience members, it's hard to hear yourself. A recipe for disaster.

In 1995 I saw Page and Plant in Albuquerque, and they had the local New Mexico Symphony back them on some Zep tunes. I think Paul should use real strings on YESTERDAY at every show. It really does add to an already iconic tune worthy of such treatment.

The pot comment bugged me too...make up your mind Paulie! I don't think anyone cares either way! That really didn't sound good. The harmonies were a whole herd of wobbly. It's time to lock "Magical Mystery Tour" up in the vaults.

I hear what you're saying. The last thing Paul McCartney needs is more baby-mama-drama.

I was barricade near the center last night, and the crowd near me was great! And when I was trying to leave after the show, it took nearly an hour to walk out because the crowd for Paul was so huge. In fact, my daughter's friend went to use the bathroom at 3:00 and never was able to make it back to the front, the crowd was so big and tight. I thought the show was fantastic. Loved it all, especially being up front with my 2 kids. So great that this morning I bought tickets for next Wednesday's show in Regina, Canada! 25 hours driving each way, Paul here I come!

AND now the sound systems, amps, mics, everything is so much better. Hmmm...makes you wonder.

I'm pretty sure that this will be the ONLY time I ever use that phrase, however apropos.

You can't judge the crowd based on what you see from the videos posted by the person from the MMT post above. As I mentioned, they are far back, and far to the right, basically outside of the main viewing area by the concessions. Most of the people you see are going to/from the restroom or getting another beer, etc. Unbelieveable of course, but many do it at all Paul concerts that I have been to. Overall the crowd was very young, and obviously heavy smokers, but they were singing Hey Jude walking out of the festival through the tunnel

no one was walking around or leaving from my vantage point: will post a pic
