Things I Would Love to See At McCartney Concert

Let me add this: Many old boardies will attest that I was the neutral, fence-rider here for a long, long time. Over twelve years, I maintained an optimism that -- one day -- fans, like myself, who have invested in Paul's solo albums, multiple concerts, would get a concert for us. Now that's its clear that this will never happen, I'm going to suspend that reserve and spend a good portion of 2014 venting. It'll subside eventually. But -- for now -- I'm entitled to complain. Consider it my "anger" stage in the 7 Steps To Grieving. So, you're just gonna have to tune me out for a few more months.
Wish there was an ignore option. I too am tired of your complaining about Paul. He doesn't read these boards, so you are just annoying those of us who do.

I know this would not happen but here goes: 1) Change the entrance of McCartney for the concert. On the huge video screen, show Ellen Degeneres's funny introduction (IMO) of McCartney at the Grammy awards several years ago. Ellen walked to the mike and simply said "The next performer needs no introduction" and left. At this moment, McCartney could walk alone to the center of the stage and "soak it all in" from the crowd. After a minute, have the band come up to join him and start the concert. 2) Actually introduce the members of his band by name. I keep hearing that 90% of the crowd are first timers so they really probably don't know who the guys are in his band. Is it the hard for McCartney to do the basic, "On drums ,Abe Lionel" etc 3) Say more then this is a new song when playing something from "New". Tell the crowd a little something about the song and make it sound like you really like your new music. 4) Sell "New" at the souvenir stands, my goodness that is just common business sense. 5) Get rid of that "magic" piano, the 60's colors just looks plain dumb to me. 6) Move "Yesterday" to the acoustic part of the set list. IMO- it does not work in the encore.
Yankeefan, I agree with all the above except #6. I like having the iconic "Yesterday" in the encore, it gives the audience something more to look forward to hearing/seeing.
Thanks, 5 out of 6 is not bad - lol !!

I'm not being abusive, just suggesting you could be more positive. I've viewed 3 threads today, and you've been negative in 2 of them.
I am one of those who "complain" also and I agree with and will defend "Audi " 100%. Why do people see it as a complaint that he want to hear his favorite artist sing songs from their entire career? Why do you feel it is a complaint for someone like Audi to want to hear the music live that he has spent a bunch of money over the years buying. I will assume you are rather new to the board but "Audi" loves McCartney music and has stated so thousands of times in posts that are not negative.

ehem.... MPL, The Press, Security & some band members DO read this message board. 2. Yankeefan quit starting to many threads there are plenty of ppl that complain about macca here. many that do, do not even attend gigs n still bitch... makes me laugh. Some is constructive criticism, others disrespectful, I'm not sure why they're McCartney fans at all.. it's a drag reading the boards at times. Its not cool the constant slights & the eye rolling...... sad really... it would be nice if Paul DID change up the setlist,.. but where is the happy media? He does have so much material..... let it out macca let that music 'out there'...lols maybe he doesn't give a damn about the setlist? on another note--I'm not sticking up for Audi, cos he unfriended me on Facebook. I will say this about him tho ,...he is level headed & knowledgeable about Macca's music,... and gets psyched talking about his Wings and solo career... he is fond of the Fireman just like myself. he does macca covers,.. he cares about Paul..... I better stop there... Some i believe it's frustration of the fans.... others it's just plan rude n mean.... One thing tho, I personally don't like them given away seats in the first two rows... they could move us up that pay the bucks... and have the others sit behind us that they give free tix too...
I wish McCartney's mgmt team would read posts and maybe act on them once in awhile. IMO - most of the things on this board are incredibly positive. Just read any recap of a concert at a particular location. I think most people were very kind to his new record (New) and stated that many times on this board. People have gushed over his wife Nancy and pictures posted have been very flattering although that is not hard because she is very photogenic. There are other examples but they don't come to mind right now. I think some complaints on this board have some merit including the one you mentioned about moving people up to really good seats. I agree with others that "complain" they are too far back for the sound check for the money they are paying. Like I and others have said, we wish McCartney would sing more of his solo work. Everyone of us that "complained" about this understood that he feels he needs to play a Beatle heavy set list but wish he could mix up the remaining songs better. I understand people "complaining" about the price of tickets, especially with this economy. The mention of the same stories is a valid complaint, McCartney can't be that naive to think everyone is seeing him for the first time especially when he plays places like NYC. As for the subject of my thread, I don't really think any of them was a real big complaint, it was more something I would enjoy or "constructive" criticism.

I've been a huge McCartney and Beatles fan since the Ed Sullivan show. As such, Id be lying if I said I wouldn't love to hear Paul perform some of his 80's and 90's material in concert. However, just for a moment, let's look at it from the entertainers point of view. For those that have seen Paul in concert more than once, have you ever felt that the audience was not having the time of their life? Also, and lets be honest, did you ever notice how much louder the roar of the crowd gets when he plays "All My Loving", or "Let It Be", or maybe even "Hey Jude"? There's an old saying that goes something like this..."if it ain't broken...don't fix it". Paul has every right to think it's not broken.

I agree about "Yesterday." When I saw Paul in 1993 (the first of FIVE concerts that I've seen for my sudden, newly interested stalkers who seem to single only moi out for criticizing Macca's setlist...but I digress), Paul sang "Yesterday" at the end of the acoustic set -- and -- my hand to God -- I thought that it was the end of the show.

I think Audi makes valid points and shouldn't be attacked for it, it's just an opinion of a loyal Macca fan who's frustrated at Paul's tedious setlist. In my mind the only way Paul could get out of the rut he's in would be playing smaller venues advertising post Beatle material only, but there's more chance of JFK coming back to life than that happening,

And there's more where that came from. But I -- unlike others -- have no major issues with his voice. I think he can still sing. For the record.
I just want to say for the record here, that I find Audi to be a positive person and a really true Paul fan. I'm a bit shocked that someone on this board would single him out as negative! He's entitled to his opinion and if you take a look at his Paul McCartney Concert Compilation video which is so lovingly put together,of Paul's best songs in concert. It's 2 and a half hours long!
It's well worth giving it a listen! It's clear he loves Paul's music. I think many of us would love for Paul to expand his repertoire to include more Wings and solo material. I also dream of such a show and many people who love Paul's music, as I myself do, long to hear these songs played live. This forum is filled with threads, listing songs people would love to hear live. Please don't single out Audi, he doesn't deserve it, in the least. I highly respect his posts and his opinion and of anyone on here, I always wish there was a "like" button for many of his posts!! Even though I really don't mind the set list being the same when I'm actually at the concerts.... I can honestly say that I would greatly enjoy a show, perhaps smaller, that didn't rely on Beatles songs and had a focus on Paul's post Beatle work!! I too love Helen Wheels amongst a long list of other songs post Beatles. We all need to get along, we have a love for Paul in common here That is the golden thread that binds us all together. Peace and Love as the Beatles and especially Ringo and even Paul likes to remind us! I will always be hoping hoping, for that smaller venue show of Paul's post Beatles work and even though it may be some type of wishful fantasy... I can clearly picture myself being at it!! I can also picture numerous people from this board there with me!! In my thoughts of it, it's definitely not a sound check either We just all love Paul's music, that's the bottom line... -
I'd love to see "So glad to see you here" as the concert opener, I think it would work.

It would be nice to hear some "new" stories between songs.
He actually told a new one tonight in Phoenix. It was after "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" Paul said that John wrote the song after seeing a poster that he had bought. I already knew that story, but I'm glad Paul told something new!
