The Eagles suck. But, seriously... ...they suck. They really, really, reeeeeally suck.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??????? In concert they are pretty boring, just stand there. I do love their songs.

I kid for the most part. To me, The Eagles are a lot like Toto: They sound more like studio-pros, rather than a band borne in somebody's garage. Their records have no "teeth" -- no grit. And, plus, they basically sound like '90s country music to me.
-
however, I am dying to see that documentary about them from a couple of years ago. I heard it's gooooooood!

It is about perspective. The Eagles were put together by the likes of David Geffen to be a hit-making machine, and they were. But they were not studio musicians. They were singer songwriters in different groups and were put together and pulled it off. They were crucial to the invention of country rock and they were integral in creating that soft-California sound of the mid 70s. But all successful groups that have made it were seen by a manager who saw them and said "I can make a lot of money off this band." And then they cut the rough edges off and make them palatable to the music buying public. That even happened with the Beatles. But I do see your point. To me they are not Toto. And their songwriting cannot be denied.

I saw the Eagles a few years ago. It was a great show. I thought they'd phone it in since the crowd wasn't all that responsive, but they were all on that night. Don Henley's voice sounded as young as ever, and Joe Walsh, though sober, was just as loopy. I don't remember what I paid.

Supposedly, Glen Frey puts Axl Rose to shame when it comes to controlling, prima donna douchebags.

How about Stephen Stills?
Remember that news-magazine prime-time series in the '80s called West 57th Street? They did a segment on Crosby, Stills & Nash that put the entire movie Let It Be to shame. I had no idea there was so much drama in that group. And, yes, Stephen Stills was the focal point of all of it (David Crosby was sober by then and quite lucid).
