Some thoughts from a former Maccaboarder and UK resident. Lots of my UK friends weren't able to get tickets to the three UK shows via pre-sale, sadly: https://joshgill.wordpress.com/2015/03/07/paul-mccartney-pre-sale-fail/ Thoughts?
Rubbish. Gig is in high demand. None of those points help addressing the problems surrounding events like this. All make-believe solutions. first of all it's the system online which is laughable. Server errors in 2015, while you know how much pressure there will be?! Then, it's the touts which should be stamped out, not people from outside the country. Suspending of registration wouldn't help one bit. Touts are registered way in advance, and the links would be passed around anyway. And even if tickets would go the people who are planning on attending the gig, the ratio demand/supply for a concert in Liverpool would still be 10 to 1, if not more. Regarding point 3, that's what it all comes down to: the industry (artist, bookers, venues and ticket agencies) are getting way too much benefit from this situation to hurry up and find a fix for these practices already The fact the best seats/first chances on tickets are being wrapped into decadent champagne packages speaks volumes about the main goal of events like McCartney's.
I agree with you and the points you make. It could be argued the only way to stop touts in pre sales is to have a paid fan club with exclusive to paying members tickets and only the member may use the tickets but that would no doubt cause howls of anger, the only other solution is the mess we have now a free for all and a hit and hope kind of system that just gets on everyones nerves unless you hit lucky with tickets, its hard to know what would be the best thing but long term im sure tickets will become a thing of the past and everything will be on your phone and you just show it at the door.
I don't know if it's 100% foolproof but some artists, Bruce Springsteen comes to mind, have used a paperless e-ticket in the past for access to the premium seats and the general admission pit in front of the stage. The only way you could supposedly get access to the venue was with the original ticket buyer presenting his credit card and ID at the venue gate and all ticket holders purchased on that card must enter at the same time. In fact, they are escorted into the venue! Of course if nobody bought from touts they would go bankrupt !!!
These are all excellent points! I have been able to get pretty decent seats by joining several artists "clubs" would rather pay that and get a "gift" item, than to pay the touts/scalpers. (The Who (17th row) , Tom Petty (~15th)Coldplay (11th row)) I really like the idea of showing ID to get into a gig with a matching name. The best instance of this was for Kate Bush.... Your name was on the ticket and they were very very strict about letting you in if it didn't match, such as an email in your name connecting you to the named person on the ticket with info from them. I stood in line for hours trying to get in with a named person, but no luck...spoke to personnel and they explained it was very strictly done. The people I met there wouldn't buy from the touts because they were warned not to, from staff. She did 22 shows in a row, just like that...Bravo to Kate for that! That and the Bruce Springsteen one mentioned, are two of the best I've heard of

Liverpool and London shows are gonna sold out tomorrow in the public sale. Any chance of a 2nd date being added?

The pre sale tickets were an absolute disgrace I have been a member of the fan club since the early 80's and have been to all of Pauls uk shows since 1987. I have always got tickets in the pre sales no problems, but this time I was on the page from 9:15 and at the bottom of the page was a form to enter email address to join the pre sales mailing list, I kept on refreshing the page expecting a button to appear which didn't happen and when it got to 10:05 and nothing had still not come up, I then noticed that the form at bottom gad changed to enter email, so I entered my email but all the tickets had sold out, I am very angry and disappointed that it wasn't made obvious that we had to enter email and there wasn't a buy tickets button appearing', because I didn't know this I missed out and I gave always bed. Able to get pre sale tickets In the past, I am so passionate about Paul's music that I queued for 36 hours to meet him at his "new" signing and yet I can't get presale tickets, feel very let down by all this. To make matter worse i also had O2 presale and on the site it said Sat at 10am, so i tried here and kept on refreshing and nothing hapened so looked at email i have been sent and it said Sunday from 10, so thought i had made a mistake. So left it and my wife happened to log onto my O2 priority account and said they were already on sale but all the good ones had gone! - so missed 2 presales" and have no decent ticket. Personally as this is supposed to be a macca board pre sale, i thing they should have said only people that had regestered by the time the concerts had been annonced and not let new people sign up, and also i was one of thr paying members that joined to get the priority tickets and dutring this time there were no UK shows and then our memberships were cancelled, so i think people that were paying members should have been given a priority over non paying members

Try not to feel badly, I don't think there were many tickets, I thought I had tickets and they timed out without a clock, when I hit purchase! I tried for an hour afterwards with nothing... Same thing today. It's very difficult with the scalpers getting the majority! My friend and I were both trying. There really weren't any decent seats available for what we were able to get, so we didn't take anything. Maybe tomorrow!

I've never had any luck with the website presales for Pauls concerts- all I got offered when I eventually got through was a top tier seat at the 02 Arena. I got my ticket through 02 priority instead. Got a floor seat. Seems 02 customers get a better option than fans.

Maybe Paul could invite UK fans on his website to buy one ticket each to a special UK fan-only show. That would be wonderful. Wonder how big it would have to be? Better still, Paul could do a whole stint of them - one every week or so - so that everybody could get a chance to see him in a small venue. He could play his new album or a kind of McCartney less-played song symphony at the small gigs. Maybe if he did enough small shows of this nature, he could meet each fan individually, which might make him happy and further stimulate his creativity ... you just never know! That's a wish of mine.

I replied in your other thread - but i'll paste it here as well. Plus i meant to say that unfortunately it doesn't seem Paul is interested in ever doing a small show... but other than that this is what i said in the other thread! I'll put it in quotes below!
it's a nice idea, one that i think most of us have dreamt of over the years... but i think he's never going to do it.. and it's just not do-able nowadays -the short lived premium membership came and went without a UK show (apart from the rah charity one) and after that it was scrapped and back to the free for all of *anyone* registered with pm.com getting presale access, and you could register even after the tour announcement. Having seen 3rd row centre liverpool tickets on a resale site for £1795.00 each - yes that's almost £2000.00 for one ticket - tickets that will have been bought on the pm.com presale or from the venues presale (that was also advertised as people on their mailing list - but they gave away the link and code on their twitter for the world to use instead)... well having seen that legally being done, i give up, i feel like it's over, touts have won, pm.com and sites don't seem to mind after all do they? So how a small gig would be workable is impossible Sad Yes we can all say have photo ID, do it like Kate Bush, etc etc, but it seems pm.com or bascially anyone inc the venues doesn't really care who gets them, as long as someone buys them. (Yes, i'm a bit negative after the last 2 days of presales, sorry!)

What was the word to use? Could someone PM me please? I saw that it was asking for a code to use. I never got that code in the email.... thanks

A fan site competition for liverpool tickets would be a nice idea

Spot on. I found the presales to be poor too. Disappointed.

Kate bush and her team seem to beat the touts or so I'm told
-
I got a great ticket on the presale but then it disappeared from my cart as I was checking out. There was no clock that I could see... I think I have the worst luck concert ticket wise, except when a member of some musicians "club" has a decent presale!! Am very tired, finally got a ticket on the floor! Still feeling sad that I somehow lost the good ticket... Didin't see any A1 A2 A3 tickets ever offered for the second show in London. How does this happen? Yet they are being offered on the Ticketmaster reseller site... so much higher in price!!
-
I just got a ticket for the 2nd O2 night! A2, Row H!
-
Put me right on this guys , but, doesn,t this second concert somewhat devalue the resale potential of tickets yet unsold for the first O2 concert that are hitherrto held by the touts ? If so, ha ha ha ha!!! Haaaah

That is a great way to foil the touts, but you can't do it at arena or stadium shows, too many doors for entry and too many people to check; it would take hours, I think. Kate Bush played the Apollo - smaller audience and only a few doors to check. Cat Stevens did a small US tour last fall and he insisted on having paperless tickets - no name needed to be checked, just the credit card swipes. He was only playing theaters. New York State does not allow paperless ticketing for concerts, so when he found that out, he cancelled his NY show rather than have paper tickets available for that concert. Paul could at least offer paperless tickets for at least the better seats, as Springsteen has done, but apparently chooses not to.
-
I want to add another thing: Sale for these UK gigs were able through TicketBastard, SeeTickets, AXS, the local venues itself... All different systems with different chances: none of these mentioned on the McCartney web site. Fans start 1-0 behind in the run to obtain tickets.
-
We were asked for ID at his 100 Club gig. Some touts still got away with it as they sold one of the tickets and brought the buyer for the other ticket in with them. I was asked for ID and credit card etc at a Radiohead gig in 2012 (tickets were not sent out either and they had to be collected), again at a Damon Albarn gig and George Ezra gig. So it is possible. I think the problem is that once you buy the tickets you can't get a refund if you genuinely can't go and I guess people found out that way too about how much some tickets can be worth on the resale market.

I regreat to have lost so much time on Saturday. It was easier this morning. 3 tickets for the 23rd gig at 10.10 ! May I say that the Saturday presale was quite useless ?
