Sweet Thrash remix
-
Does anyone have a spare copy of the Sweet Thrash remix 12" All RSD2015 copies seem to go on Ebay. I have A LOT of McCartney rarities for swapping. People in the UK, is there someone who could pick up a copy for me in a store participating ? ---------------------------------------------- Paul has created a limited number of white label vinyl 12? Sweet Thrash Mix and has instructed us to send them to stores across the country. He asks that on Record Store Day you quietly place it in the Paul McCartney bin before you open (please place in the McCartney bin, not the RECORD STORE DAY RELEASES bin) and go about your day. When a customer brings it to the register to purchase, please tell them about the rarity of this release and take their picture. Then tag your store in a social media post with the hashtag #RSDMCCARTNEY. Please do not give this piece away. Please sell it for no more than $9.99. Please make sure to take the picture. Please make sure to do this on Record Store Day. Please remember the hashtag #RSDMCCARTNEY Record Store Day will announce on social media that there are special white sleeve McCartney pieces out there, but you are asked to stay quiet about them until someone finds them in your store.

So this is a UK only exclusive?
-
It came out elsewhere today for Record Store Day. I was 50th in line and got it by a miracle. Elvis' 10" and McCartney's Family Way were long gone.

Last weekend's Record Store Day saw the unexpected release of a strictly limited remix 12" that has the potential to be one of the most sought after Macca collectibles. Perhaps it already is... In the period from 6th to 18th of April a number of white label 12", including two exclusive remixes of Hope For The Future appeared in record shops in UK and US. The records vanished in a blink and the speculations went crazy on the net. So did the second hand prices of "Sweet Thrash"; EURO 791 and USD 570 are two recent observations. The intensity of discussions accelerated when US record shops claimed that the hand written label was penned by Paul himslef. Twitter #RSDMCCARTNEY, Ebay, Discogs, Steve Hoffman Music forum and Popsike are good places to look for those who want to catch up. There seem to be two issues that fans in particular would like official information about: - How many copies were actually released? In the US and UK? - Did Paul write the labels himself? All, some or none? Please share your knowledge!
-
and...Only in US and UK..?
-
Yes, we would like to know! and in my opinion, a few DO seems like Paul's hand writing, but some DON'T. (The UK ones does look like Paul's, but the USA ones looks like made by different people, maybe two or 3 different persons)
-
So far (until we get official word), it can be confirmed that 99% of the RSD Sweet Thrash (a special White Label ?Hope for the Future? 2 exclusive remixes Record Store Day 2015, limited to 100 copies) sold in the UK were likely written by Paul (only one so far was definitely not!), but ALL the copies sold in the USA were NOT. credits to the original guy who created the first UK montage, the rest are mine. (as I see he already claimed the rights of it! haha) [](http://imageshack.com/i/ipwle0Dhj]<img src=)"/>

Thanks for some great reseach Mike! I agree with your conclusions, except that I'd like to add regarding the "non-Paul-penned" Uk label. I suggest it might still be the same person who wrote the other labels. Strange that only one "odd" has surfaced. Looks like a child's writing to me, or perhaps even more like a lefthanded person writing with his/hers right hand?? My theory is that the purpose of this whole "Sweet T-campaign" is to encourage what we are doing now - create some buzz in social media. Digital word of mouth. From that point of view "changing" handwriting style on purpose, would be an additional element for us to discuss... Until we get some reliable information, this speculation is as valid as the suggestion that Paul (at all) penned any label. The photo of the odd UK label seem to origin from a Picadilly Records (in Manchester) tweet 7th of April. It appears to be one of the very first to mention the Sweet T 12": https://twitter.com/hashtag/HopeForTheFuture?src=hash (scroll down to 6th of April) Mike, which is your educated guess regarding the edition size? 100 in total or 200?

Thanks for adding great info Henrik! Until we get official word,I'm guessing 50 for the UK and 50 for USA, total of 100, but could be 200 copies which has been the run of some other recent rare items, like Beatles' Tomorrow Never Knows iTunes LP promo. Regards

I did a collocation of all copies seen on the web (which should be the lion's share) Sunday 19th of April. Unfortunately I haven't updated it since - but the pace of change really has slowed down since then so there are only minor changes. - 31 copies listed at #RSDMCCARTNEY (I think all in US) - 27 registred sales at Popsike since 9th April (all UK and Ebay source) - 5 ongoing auctions at Ebay (UK/US). No huge increase in auctions despite official release at RSD. - 1 ended auction at Ebay but not yet registred at Popsike. This adds up to 64 copies, perhaps not unique. The remaining 36 (at least) could probably have been "sneaked out" but have not been registred at #RSDMCCARTNEY or #HOPEFORTHEFUTURE or they could have been sold elsewhere than on Ebay. There is nothing in what I've found that contradicts a total edition of 100 copies, perhaps split in 50/50 for UK and US. The big difference is that UK copies were out prior RSD, from 6th of April (first sign) and only a few appeared in the twitter flow as intended (#RSDMCCARTNEY or #HOPEFORTHEFUTURE). On the other hand many ended up on Ebay. All US copies seem to have surfaced on RSD the 18th of April and the lucky finders were included in the Twitter flow, very few copies from US has been spotted on Ebay. Did the UK copies reach dealers buying in speculation rather than fans? Did the US copies primarily reach fans?

Thanks Henrik. In respect of the label with odd handwriting, I have seen two on eBay and I have one also. So at least 3 out of 50/100 in the UK. On my version the ?hr? in Thrash is very awkwardly formed (so much so that the writer has gone over the first attempt!) and on the other two odd labels the ?hras? is also very awkward. Until I read your comments, I hadn't considered that it could?ve been written by perhaps a left-handed person with his/her right hand. After some online research, I?m convinced that this is the case. The traits in the writing certainly suggest that the writer has used his/her non-dominant hand. Could it be that Paul is ambidextrous and shifted to his right hand? After a quick google search I came across an article that says Paul can sign autographs with his right hand. Can anyone verify this? If this is correct, it would appear to strengthen the argument that the UK labels are written by Paul. He could have tried writing a few with his right hand perhaps to be a little different on a few labels or to spark debate like this! Would be interested in the thoughts of others, and many thanks for spotting this Henrik.

Just to put the "writing effort" in context I designed a little experiment. On a paper I wrote "PM" and "Sweet Thrash", trying to match the letter size of the actual record. In between each line of writing I reached for a 12" record and moved it from my right side to my left and vice versa. These two movements should approximately reflect those performed when signing a record like Sweet T. I did it 50 times since I support the notion that it probably was the edition size in the UK and the number of records signed by Macca. The whole procedure took me 6 minutes and 42 seconds. I didn't get tired, it wasn't at all a huge effort. In other words, I don't think "physical effort" or "limited time" are valid arguments to put forward in order to reject the claim that Paul actually penned UK labels.

-
Hello lads, what do you think of this one? Is it Paul's hand writing?
-
Yes, to me it certainly matches the UK labels I've seen (incl my own) and since the consensus is that they are self-penned, this one most probably is. Some official comments from Macca/MPL/Hear Music/Universal or RSD org would still be great... Seems to be part of the game to leave us in the dark, left to conjectures and speculations.

The release of the ultra limited edition of a 12" 'sweet trash' remix of Paul McCartney's "Hope For The Future" for Record Store Day has brought about a bit of confusion. No one knows exactly if Sir Paul wrote "PM Sweet Tracks" on the white labels. Till now there's no evidence or confirmation that Paul himself wrote this. Really hope that anyone can give a 100% information or could ask Sir Paul personally. Thanks a lot for your help.

Where does one get these?

I have a confirmation from a really trustworthy source (not Paul but close enough) that Paul at least signed one copy. Since I don't believe someone on purpose would immitate his hand writing my conclusion is he penned the UK labels. But I agree with you. Please shed some light here!
