The Sun, the Moon, and the Stars

^^ I agree. Sweet cartoon.
-
I sat out and watched the beautiful little sliver of a moon in the western sky for awhile last night.
-
^^ I am watching the same moon right now.

Falling star...make a wish!

Nice photo with the comet, moon and Venus and Jupiter http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap150723.html

They need to find a way to make stars visible in gigantic cities choking on air pollution.

Are there any tall buildings with rooftop decks ?

It's been great to watch shortly after dusk every night.

NASA found an exoplanet that is even closer than previous finds in the possibility of being earth like! "Not only is this planet squarely in the Goldilocks zone -- where life could exist because it is neither too hot nor too cold to support liquid water -- its star looks like an older cousin of our Sun, the US space agency said. That means the planet, which is 1,400 light-years away, could offer a glimpse into the Earth's apocalyptic future, scientists said. Known as Kepler 452b, the planet was detected by the US space agency's Kepler Space Telescope, which has been hunting for other worlds like ours since 2009. "Kepler 452b is orbiting a close cousin of our Sun, but one that is 1.5 billion years older," NASA said in a statement."

Saw this painting by a local artist and thought it was really cool ... http://jayalders.com/wp-content/gallery/stylized-figurative/star_crossed-alders-art-sun-planet-web.jpg I bought a poster! I saw that the Kepler exoplanet had a very close orbit to ours, from its older sun. Wondering what the mass is regarding a similar gravity and how close the atmosphere is to ours then?
-
Definitely a cool poster! I did hear that the planet had a 385 day orbit around it's star. Am thinking that the orbit speed and distance from the star and it's similar size are hopeful that other similarities may also exist. If the star is a billion times older, then the planet could be a billion times farther down the road then ours as well. How many civilizations may have come and gone? I wonder if SETI has beamed in on it? The variable possibilities are endless.

Wow didn't realize the orbit was that close to ours! A lot more will be found with the new SETI project. That's going to be fascinating. We can't just be the only ones in this Universe! Just read about the Chilbolton crop circle...it very interesting in relation to Carl Sagan's original message. http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/circulos_cultivos/esp_circuloscultivos12.htm Trying to understand the Quantum Entanglement and wondering if that's going to be to a way to connect to something far away, as it can be measured, so why not find out the way they are connected, and use that means to travel or communicate using the same connection, like a interstellar phone line... Or manner of space travel? Perhaps an expected visualization of this being so, can make it so.... I'm trying to understand it and the observation of making something be, by observation or measurement of it...

Plenty. But the sky is almost always cloudy and/or smoggy. I've gone up to the Peak when it was impossible to even see Central.

Watched a special about Dark Matter and Dark Energy saying we'll go the same way as Venus, a planet that originally was our twin planet!! Wow life is so fragile on our planet! I need to live every day like it could be my last! You never know when there's going to be a comet or asteroid or solar flare!! Going to go to more concerts, is moving to the top of the don't put it off list!!

Sorry to hear, I've read there's a really big problem and they're trying to clean up the smog... It used to be bad here, but they've finally gotten the smog under control.
-
They're always talking about cleaning it up, but China relies on coal and Hong Kong is close to all of those factories that make the cheap toys and counterfeit electronics that the world loves so much.
-
I know they're working on the problem... I'm going there in a couple of years when my girlfriends kids are older... Looking forward to going there with someone who speaks Chinese! So many great things there!

Tonite be sure to catch a glimpse of the Blue Moon! Really loved this one, imagining the astronauts getting the best view of this Blue Moon and Tycho there!! http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html [size=5] It said they enhanced original colors...so is it really blue? I can't believe the detail from these lenses....saw one of Earth and Africa/Europe from a million miles away! Such detail!!
