Paul McCartney 2016 Rumors

Isn't Brazil now in an intractable recession?

Not for pop/rock concerts, apparently: Pear Jam (last month), The Stones (next February), Maroon 5 (next March) and Coldplay (next April) have all been able to sell out stadiums quite quickly when tickets went on sale recently. Add to that Paul's absence this year (which has increased the demand for tickets) and he will have no trouble selling out a couple of stadiums after those other artists are gone.

I think he doesn't go to China because people there eat cats and dogs.
I hope that's not the reason. I'd be very disappointed if he were that stupid.

I would love to see him do a tour of places like China, India, Egypt, Cuba, Africa and Southeast Asia. I wonder why he hasn't gone there yet: lack of local promoters willing to pay his fee? Fear (either from him or from the promoters) of not selling enough tickets? Other (non-financial) reasons? Also, when he puts a tour together, he usually either: 1) goes to a few countries in the same region or 2) does a few shows in the same country As it would not be a good business decision (or financially viable) to bring all his equipment and staff to do a single concert in a single country. Maybe his tour manager hasn't been able to make either of these options happen in those regions yet?

I suspect Paul does not play some of those places for the same reason he doesn't play New Mexico: it would not be as financially lucrative as playing another place.

I don't know about Africa, but China has a growing middle class with money to burn. Concert tickets from western acts sell out in minutes. I can't imagine Paul would do any worse than Elton John or Avril Lavigne. Air Supply sells out in Hong Kong. I think Paul would be ok. You'd think he'd want to do India, with his history. Cuba might not have the richest promoters.

Again, he would be ok by OUR standards. But not by his. Paul can MAKE money in ANY market. The question is, would it be enough for him?

Every year he goes to countries he had never been to before. Maybe not as many as we would like him to, but they are there. For example, in the past 5 years: 2010: Puerto Rico 2011: Peru and United Arab Emirates 2012: Uruguay, Paraguay and Colombia 2013: Poland 2014: Ecuador and Costa Rica 2015: South Korea And even though he keeps returning to countries in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia, he always includes cities he had never been to. I guess it's a matter of time until he visits a few other "new" countries.

Over all, he does a pretty good job. Still, it is surprising he has not played China.

Rumors are getting a bit stronger about Paul's possible 2016 Brazilian tour. Apparently the plan is for the concerts to happen before the Olympic games turn into the main focus, but ultimately it's up to his schedule. Adding to that the fact that a few big stars have already confirmed stadium concerts between Fabruary and early April, I'm guessing his concerts (if confirmed) would be in late April / early May.
Where did you take this from, Carlos? I'm from Brazil too, but I haven't heard of anything around here.

I think it's a matter of time until he plays in China. Here's a 2008 article that quotes him as being interested in doing it: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/3467438/Sir-Paul-McCartney-says-he-wants-to-perform-in-China.html Cuba is not too far away from the US, so hopefully they will be able to work something out, just like he played in Puerto Rico in 2010 after a few US shows. The Stones are trying to schedule a concert in Cuba in March but it would probably have to be for free, due to the low income of most of the citizens. I assume Paul would have to do the same, unless the government (or a private sponsor) were willing to pay his fee.

He should come to China. There are plenty of masks.
Paul McCartney hasn't been to China yet, but George Macartney has: http://afe.easia.columbia.edu/special/china_1750_macartney.htm

Does anyone know if Paul is going to perform on any festivals in '16?

I'm curious: which of the big festivals in the US/UK/EU are left for him to do? I've never been to one, so I don't know much about them.

Well... yeah, of course he's going to be doing shows next year. That's no surprise.
