Listening to all these great songs of Bowie's on youtube & TV specials about him...makes me wonder about what music will be played when this happens to the man who's name is at the top of the page. Hopefully it won't be for a loooong time but... it's a shame that they will be playing mostly Beatles songs for Paul. Not much of his solo work is well known (because he hardly plays them). I mean...you hear a Bowie song & think oh yeah...great tune by Bowie. If they play a Beatles song you'll think of all 4 of them. Which is not a bad thing by any means...Beatles music is great...but it's not just Paul. Am I making any sense? Do you know what I mean? I guess this should have gone in a diff thread but since we've been playing Bowie here...I started thinking of it last night when we were looking for that seeing eye dog.

How are you oobu24? I hope all is well with you and your family. You really tapped into a very deep subject, I do have a very good idea what you mean. I have to admit, I'm dreading the day that comes for the man, whose name is at the top of the page!! Bowie has always been a solo artist, he was never in a big band like Paul was with The Beatles!! When you listen to Bowie's music, you know its his music!! Bowie's voice was very unique, I know Bowie's voice anywhere!! Bowie's music was so unique that his music never sounded like anyone, Bowie's music was his own style. I hope that I'm making sense. As for Paul, despite being one of the most successful, if not the most successful, solo artist in music history, Paul will always be associated with the greatest band that music ever produced, The Beatles! Paul made a statement that is quoted in the opening page of the attached CD booklet in the Paul McCartney Wingspan, hits and history 2 CD set. Paul is quoted in reference to The Beatles break up, Paul said "A hard act to follow, almost impossible! But what could I do?" How can ANYONE, let alone John, Paul, George & Ringo, record music that can top The Beatles? I admit, all four have recorded GREAT songs throughout Rock's glorious history that can compete with the music they wrote and recorded during The Beatles incredible reign. As a solo artist, in my opinion, Paul has written and recorded some of Rock's most sacred anthems!! However, some people may differ in opinions as to which music period/era was Paul's best, was it Paul's music contributions as a member of The Beatles or as a solo artist? As for myself, like yourself, being the hard core Beatles fanatics as we are, I'm going to always love anything that The Beatles or Ex-Beatles have recorded!! In closing, in my opinion, and I may be wrong, Paul's music accomplishments with The Beatles will always top and take priority over his music accomplishments as a solo artist. I know that's a bold statement, I'd like to hear what our fellow Beatles fanatics have to say on this subject as well as yourself oobu24. And this doesn't just apply to Paul, it also applies to John, George and Ringo. Am I wrong? My mind is open for different opinions and views, I'm looking forward to reading them. WOW, its time for a drink!!! Bartender, as round of whatever everyone wants, on me. As for me, I'll take a Malibu Rum and Coke. Please make sure there's plenty of mints for everyone throughout the day. ENJOY!!!

Thank you very much for answering me. Is is hard to ponder but all of our days are numbered. Unfortunately. I think Yoko saw to it that Lennon was remembered NOT the Beatles. MUCH of his solo work was played. He didn't believe in Beatles you know. I just think it is a shame that Paul will be remembered more as a Beatle & not for more of his solo work. I know I am probably in the minority here for thinking this but there you have it. I think Paul is to blame for not playing his solo stuff more. ehhh...too heavy for me now that it's 3pm here...need to think about another round for us all!

In many ways you're right oobu24, Yoko made sure that Lennon Legacy would be permanently secured although I truly believe that Lennon's Legacy as well as the other Ex-Beatles Legacy is permanently secured. However, when Lennon was assassinated and taken from us in the most evil way possible on 8 December 1980, Millions of fans mourned!!! In reality, the entire world mourned Lennon's death!! With that in mind, it was the fans as well as the media that made Lennon bigger than The Beatles. And when that happened, The Beatles became even bigger than they ever were because they were more in the spotlight that has lasted to this very day!!! I have heard the saying that The Beatles were more than just a Rock band. The Beatles were spokesman, a way of life, leaders, their songs contained ideas as well as resolutions to problems that everyone could relate to when it comes to dealing with life's everyday problems. The Beatles made it look simple when it came to writing powerful songs with messages, no one will ever write songs like Lennon/McCartney! No one will ever record 27 number one hit songs in 8 years!!! The Beatles did it all, they accomplished everything beyond there wildest dreams in such a short period of time that there was nothing left to prove by 1970!!! The lyrics "The Dream is over" pretty much sums up the break-up of The Beatles! When Lennon sang the lyrics "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me," Lennon may have been a little bitter when he compared the break-up of The Beatles to a painful divorce, but in reality, Lennon, like the other Ex-Beatles had outgrown The Beatles. The Fab 4 had grown up from Boys into men that would eventually want a separate individual life of their own with their significant others thus not needing the others or The Beatles. In my opinion, one of the many bad parts of The Beatles break-up is that George was blossoming into a GREAT songwriter!!! It is also my opinion that George's "ALL THINGS MUST PASS" album is the best album ever recorded by any of the ex-Beatles. George's lyrical writing style is exactly like John's. What do you think oobu24? I better stop, I really get deep into discussing Beatles history! If I don't stop, I'll keep going. Its time for another drink!!! Bartender, a round of Bacardi 151 and Cokes for everyone, on me!!! ENJOY!!
