Pinkpop, The Netherlands - Sunday 12 June - ARCHIVE
-
Phew, my post-chain has broken ;). Roermond and Weert are both in the same province as the site of Pinkpop, Limburg. Normally both are an about 45 minutes drive away, of course much, much longer with Pinkpop traffic and parking. And Vlodrop is where the Maharishi lived and where both McCartney and Harrison visited him, that's also in the same province.

Thanks. Cheers. I spent many months living in Limburg back in 1981. (18 months in the Netherlands all up). So just trying to get a gauge on the location of Pinkpop.

Ah, that's great! So you know all about it. It's in Landgraaf, at Megaland, and that's pretty far from central Netherlands, but all more near to certain parts of Germany and Belgium. When you've got Maastricht at the most western south corner of Limburg, Landgraaf is at the most eastern south corner, not more than 10 kms to the German border. And the festival is in the middle of a neighbourhood, and unlike many other festivals over there simply not build to house 70,000 people including transportation and what all not. Not even Paul McCartney could get me back there. At least the curfew is loosened up a bit in recent years.

http://m.limburger.nl/cnt/dmf20160607_00020945/exclusief-interview-met-paul-mccartney Full article behind paywall, will take care of that later. But a few sound bytes are available for everyone, I think. It's the same ol', same ol', but there's something classic in the first bit. What's his favourite song from all 67 on 'Pure McCartney'? The answer is very, very telling, woah .

Haha...even his Clare Fischer story we've heard before..."Linda wasn't very happy then she saw Clare was a man and it was ok..."

Just got a paper copy of the newspaper. It's a very good interview IMO, the first part is really interesting in general, especially where Paul speaks about his children and grandchildren. Quite a gesture imo that he allows a regional newspaper an interview for half an hour (remember this is not a national newspaper and readership is limited). One of the interviewers is a long time fan, which may have helped with the quality of the interview and the fact that the interview was longer than planned. Honestly, I don't understand the negativity around here. Pinkpop is a BIG happening in Holland, tenthousands of people a looking forward to it, newspapers and local TV can't stop talking about it, yet here on the forum we have two grumpy members trying to spoil the party by boring everybody with "ticket sales are poor", "heard his story before", "silly idea of All you need is love", etc. etc. etc. What have you done for the world yourselves, boys ?? Whose party are you trying to spoil ? Or is it the fact that you are not able to go to Pinkpop yourselves ? One thing I know for sure, which is that it is gonna be big fun, even if his voice is not optimal, even he plays the same songs. The fact is that many people are looking forward to seeing a legend playing live at Europe's oldest festival. Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative.....really, this is getting silly and VERY predictable (even more predictable than Paul's stories on stage )

What I've done for myself, to start with, is doing Pinkpop 5 times through the last 15 years from which twice a full weekend and twice behind the scenes I repeated ten times that it's a good move to play Pinkpop, and I said there's even a bit of buzz. But I'm also fair in reporting that there's a lot of negativity on the booking, on social media and at forums.. I mentioned I obviously don't agree with that, and that those who hoped on carnival instead of music can eat their hearts out with Rammstein a day earlier. Their loss. It's also a fact that the supply of tickets is well overweighting the demand, and tickets are going for dump prices. That doesn't even have to do with McCartney, but with a combination of scalpers who hoped for a Stones-like fight for tickets which never happened and which the organisation lied about, and with people buying too much tickets for their group and people backing out after realising how horrid the line-up altogether is with endless of cheaper and way better festivals available. Really, for a festival goer or music lover in The Netherlands, Pinkpop hasn't been relevant in 10 years. It's not even extensively covered on the public channels any more due to the lack of rights. Also, the Dutch press is only focussed on either wackiness - "is it the real Paul playing? here's a cute conspiracy theory!" - or of course fawning over the Beatles factor. That was never different, and I can't even argue with that. It's even in the program book, "a Beatle at Pinkpop!". And the reports on what to expect are of course only mentioning AHDN, 'Love Me Do', 'Can't Buy Me Love' and "hopefully a song he didn't even write while he just gave us 2+ hours of classics from his own songbook" (that's why I think the focussing on 'All You Need Is Love' is silly and almost ungrateful). But if anything, I know for sure he's going to win a lot of naysayers over, and I can't wait until that group complains in the coming years McCartney never tours near...

The Dutch public channels received no approval to stream anything from the set during the live stream.

Enjoy the show, folks!

http://www.1limburg.nl/video-paul-mccartney-geland-op-vliegveld-beek And the buzz is on. McCartney just arrived at Maastricht/Aachen (Beek) Airport by private jet from Scotland at 19:13 local time. Footage of the plane landing, including McCartney waving (shot from the wrong side) above. Will take him half an hour to get to the festival, so he won't arrive much earlier than 1,5 hour before the gig. The biggest of the biggest. The rumour mill is going bonkers at the moment, to the point of people hoping Bruce Springsteen (who is in the country and has a history with Pinkpop) will join him for, of course, 'All You Need Is Love'. The Dutch public broadcasting service confirmed there is no permission whatsoever to broadcast anything, not even to record it. edit: They just clarified that they will be able to show 2 times 30 seconds in the television broadcast. Sigh, that are the not too representative usual snippets from the opener and the third song, provided by his own team.

I've been hearing about Bruce appearing from some of the Bruce boards! I hope it's true! I also hope I get my hands on the broadcast especially since Bruce might be there and I've been spoiled getting all his live shows since 2014.

For what it's worth, the Dutch public broadcasting service said he was spotted backstage. Annoying how first the focus was on 'All You Need Is Love', and now on Springsteen, it's Paul McCartney doing a 2 hour set full of classics, ffs The broadcast of the 2 x 30 sec. press teasers is confirmed. And here a report about a younger generation looking forward to the show: http://go.3fm.nl/festivals-pinkpop/nieuws-detail/8160/De-jeugd-van-tegenwoordig-is-gek-op-Paul-McCartney Also, not a good look: one DJ-set clashing with McCartney had to be cancelled, and now the last act on another stage is abruptly cut off during their last song now McCartney is starting. He was scheduled for 21:45, but the pre-show only just started (21:50 local time). Midnight curfew.

https://www.periscope.tv/w/1PlJQjvynDVxE He's on stage, 22:00 sharp. AHDN opener. edit: And onto the next one: https://www.periscope.tv/w/1vAxRpayjjgGl 'Save Us' next, which the Periscope user saw as a cue to immediately stop filming. Nice outfit! https://www.instagram.com/p/BGkTR6PEFUAOW0rCOYBNqiU9mC2NEI3UlyEQqw0/ 'Can't Buy Me Love' third song, vocally as we are used to by now: https://www.periscope.tv/w/1LyGBlMyOvjxN

Or maybe the person didn't want to run down their phone battery, or didn't want to spend the whole concert filming? There could be a number of reasons, doesn't mean they didn't like the song, sheesh!

Well, since he returned straight away for 'Can't Buy Me Love'...
-
"We maken er een feestje van", he said. Meaning "we are going to have a party". 'Letting Go' now, so far no song skipped. https://www.periscope.tv/w/1nAJEqOyzkZJL Wardrobe change, a high and powerful "yeaaaaah", and 'Let Me Roll It'. And it's almost dark! Well done.

Well, that same person you first linked to isn't periscoping anymore so there goes your theory. That's all I'm going to say on this.
