Pawel:
A kto wybiera Prezydenta? (macie Prezydenta? ops: )
-

Yes he did sending me the Ellen show last week (complete) and also lots of dvd's of Pauls latest US tour.
-
Pawel:
Christoph, trzymaj się ciepło!
Próbuję, ale to nie jest całkowicie prosto...
-
Fea, I'm envious! Podgie is a great buddy isn't he Christoph, nad jaką piosenką teraz pracujesz i czy wreszcie wiesz jak wymawiać polskie słowa???
-
Pawel:
Christoph, nad jaką piosenką teraz pracujesz
Dozwolone...
Pawel:
-
filmy pomagały filmy pomogły pomagały = imperfect (when there is no result yet) pomogły = perfect (when there is a result) "Filmy pomagali" ---> incorrect (a non-existant word phrase) "Dozwolone" to jedna z ulubionych piosenek moich córek ale naprawdę mają bzika* na punkcie piosenki "Pluszowe Niedźwiadki" * be crazy about sth
-
: Ale jest to samo po angielsku: The films were not help_ing_, they helped!
-
Aspekty jadłem - I was eating zjadłem - I ate / I have eaten myłem się - I was washing myself umyłem się - I (have) washed myself rysowałem - I was drawing narysowałem - I drew (made a sketch) szukałem - I was looking for znalazłem - I (have) found pisałem - I was writing napisałem - I wrote śpiewałem - I was singing zaśpiewałem - I sang (have sung) czytałem - I was reading przeczytałem - I ('ve) read etc etc Christoph, have you got a dictionary that explains these subtelities?
-
No, not a dictionary, but a grammar. And thanks for all those examples, Paweł - the thing is just that I seem not to be able to develop the right feeling for that difference in natural conversation, since it doesn't exist in German (well, at least not in this form). Even in English I don't always use the simple and progressive forms correctly - but of course I have more practice there! I often am in doubt which one to use in a given sentence. Some contexts are obvious, of course, but some are rather tricky!
-
~more examples~ pisałem - I was writing napisałem - I wrote słyszałem - I could hear usłyszałem - I heard podlałem - I watered podlewałem - I was watering otworzyłem - I opened otwierałem - I was opening zamknąłem - I shut zamykałem - I was shutting Christoph, now that I think of all these multiple endings and suffixes I feel really sorry for you, and I don't know if it's feasible to learn Polish : I think you're doing so well already anyway!
-
Thank you - I think there are far worse languages than Polish... and even they can be mastered with some effort! At least I know now that I'll have to be more conscious about the verbal aspects!
