Hi Sam You are in first by a nice margin. I noticed this letter to the editor in the Washington Post and it reminded me of our previous thread Solo Songwriter Saturday, August 16, 2003; Page A19 I was puzzled by the clue "Lennon classic" in the Aug. 2 Quote-Acrostic and was surprised when it became evident that the intended answer was "Yesterday." While it is true that the classic Beatles song is credited to "Lennon/McCartney," the work was actually written solely by Paul McCartney. John Lennon and McCartney agreed early in their careers to share songwriting credit on all compositions, regardless of their individual contributions. They did indeed collaborate on many of the songs, particularly in the group's early years, but "Yesterday," as Lennon acknowledged in a 1980 interview, was "Paul's song and Paul's baby." In fact, McCartney, who not only wrote the song but was the only Beatle involved in its recording, recently asked Yoko Ono if the songwriting credit on "Yesterday" could be switched officially to "McCartney/Lennon," undoubtedly to help prevent misunderstandings such as the one that occurred in your Quote-Acrostic. As of this writing, Lennon's widow has refused to grant McCartney's request. -- Ann Rauscher 2003 The Washington Post Company

Saw Ringo and his band last night -- great show! Although Ringo doesn't seem to have the same allegiance to Liverpool that Macca seems to have -- I recently read an interview where Ringo basically said he hasn't been back there in a long time and doesn't have any particular longing for the city.

Hi Mike This board is becoming difficult as I have to keep giving my info each visit. Anyway I've put atick in the column so maybe not next time. That article is the same as our many posts. Nice tyo be back and chatting with you again. Cheers. Sam.
-
Hi Cesar (Cbimbi). I don't think I'll ever have the number of posts JC would get. But I must admit I do like being appreciated by Beatle fans. Thanks everyone for your support. And where are Paulfan, Samcat, Clorinda, Swaying Daisy, Harleyblues, Jennifer, Wispa and all those whom I can't recall just now `cos I'm tired and should be in bed. Love, hugs and cheers to all my mates. Sam.

Hi everyone, you can say that again about being up past bedtime!!!! YAWN!!!! Mike, I was at Mizner Park last night also, wasn't it God awful hot? I was the Beatlnut holding a Yellow Sub and a Blue Meanie 12 rows from the front. We were so hot and humid. I'm glad Ringo didn't have heat stroke. He was in long sleeves and blue jeans. Good night one and all, sleep tight Sam. Just wanted to say "hi"

Hi Sam, I was out of town for a few days visiting my brother in Atlanta. We had a wedding to go to there so I hadn't posted in a while. I hope you are well. It was Elvis's death anniversary this past Saturday so I wonder if you did anything in memory of him?

Hi everyone, I saw Ringo on Friday night in Gulfport, Mississippi. It was a good show and this time I had better seats than I had when I saw him on previous tours. Sam, has Ringo ever done a concert in Liverpool?
-
Hi Swaying Daisy Yes Ringo has done at least two concerts possibly more. He may have sneaked one in when I was in America though, heh, heh. Although he `says' he hasn't much feelings for Liverpool he seems very happy when he returns...but is also glad to get back to California. And given their glorious weather who could blame him ?? Love and hugs. Sam.
-
Hi Paulfan Nice to have you back Giri. I don't really like remembering people's death dates...too depressing. I prefer to celebrate his life by playing his music...and often. Cheers. Sam.
-
Thanks Sam. I guess I can understand. It was on television alot this past weekend and they showed his films. Tell me about what it was like when Elivs first became popular. I wasn't around then so I'd like to hear about what it was like then.
-
Hi Sam, Hope things are going well with you. I've seen that the site is still #1 which is great!! hugs Sarah
-
Thanks Sarah. It's nice to be back at #1 although I think we won the previous time period also. Does anyone know for sure. And we gave the others four days start. Love and hugs. Sam.

Hi Giri (Paulfan). When we first began to listen to Rock'n'Roll in England we got it mostly from Radio Luxembourg on 208 medium wave band. Don't ask me what that was it was just an old fashioned wavelength. We used to lose the power of it every so often and one night I suddenly froze as I heard `Heartbreak Hotel' ffor the first time. It was amazing and at the end of the track the Deejay said it was "a new sensation from America Elvis Pres..." and then I lost the station. I went around for days asking people had they heard this new singer called Elvis Pres. Eventually I found out his full name and was a fan ever since. Elvis was the true King of showbiz. And a real nice guy !! He was the main inspiration for John and Paul...and all of us. We used to put soap on our hair and shape the front into an Elvis quiff. It worked fine...until it rained. Goodnight. Sam.

Hi Lacey Yeah it was a good show and quite hot out. Did you go to Starbucks after the show -- I saw someone there with the submarine. Cheers! Mike
-
That was me!!!! Several people commented on my Sub and Meanie, were you one of them? I'm embaressed now, however, I had been sweltering for so long in that heat that I had transformed into Medusa. Wish I had know that it was you.
-
I was wearing my Yellow Sub shirt.

Sam, That was a pretty interesting story. I used to be a fan of Elvis's when I was 7 years old and I am three years younger than Lisa Marie. I didn't become a beatles fan until I was 12 years old. Funny thing is that when I grow sideburns people call me Elvis even though I don't look anything like him. Once when I worked in a gorcery store I had sideburns and two black guys walked in and said hey Elvis,I got amd but I should have taken it as a compliment. Anyway I hope it is the 1950s Elvis as opposed to the 1970s Elvis. Jailhouse Rock used to be my favorite song back when I was 7 and I used to pretend I was Elvis. Another funny thing is that I tried to grow my hiar long like John's when I was 17 except I didn't have the hairstyle for it. Thanks to Elvis for inspiring the beatles and the beatles for giving us good music.
-
Lacey Actually I didn't comment on the submarine but I was just a couple of people behind you in line. Mike
-
Hi Mike, It would have been nice to meet a fellow board member. I remember you went to see Paul in Ft. Lauderdale, also, didn't you? It's a small world!
-
Lacey Agree, maybe next time -- hopefully Macca comes back soon. Mike
