John Lennon & A Dalek photo - http://www.allyngibson.net/?p=1129 This guy on his website says: "There?s a picture of John Lennon posing with a Dalek prop." Does anyone know if this photo does exist? I have never seen or heard of such a photo. Have any of you? If so, would one of you be most kind to please post it in so we could see it? Two of my favourite interests: The Beatles and Doctor Who.

Sorry for dropping in. I don't know the Doctor Who series, but I just read something that might interest those who perhaps didn't know this like me. Tardis To Ride [Posted by Dave Haber on Tuesday, 01/13/09 7:14 pm] The Beatles performed their hit songs on musical and variety TV shows too numerous to mention throughout the sixties, in England and around the world. But did you know that The Beatles appeared on Doctor Who? On May 22, 1965, the Beatles were seen in the episode of Dr. Who entitled "The Executioners." More here: http://www.beatlesnews.com/blog/the-beatles/200901131914/tardis-to-ride.html There is a video
A clip from the 1965 episode 'The Chase' where the Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Vicki watch the Beatles play 'Ticket to Ride' on the Time/Space Visualiser. The original idea for the Beatles segment was to depict the band performing at a fiftieth-anniversary concert, with the Fab Four dressed up as old men. It appears that the musicians themselves were interested in the proposition, but it was vetoed by their manager, Brian Epstein. Subsequently, it was thought that an appearance by the Beatles on Top Of The Pops might be used instead, but no footage was available as most editions of the programme were destroyed after broadcast. A November 1964 recording of "I Feel Fine" was then considered. In the event, however, footage of the band performing "Ticket To Ride" at Riverside Studios on April 10th was made available to Martin's team. The Beatles had a guest appearance on Doctor Who in 1965 -- singing "Ticket to Ride." Afterwards, a traveller from the future remarks that she's heard of the Beatles, having visited their memorial in Liverpool, but that she didn't realize that the Beatles also performed "classical music." This is black-and-white Doctor Who comedy gold. The original recording of that particular Beatles performance has been lost along with a lot of the BBC library which was tragically thrown out in a great video tape purge in the 1970s. That Doctor Who footage is now the only visual record of that performance.

The guy emailed me back and he said: "Yes, there is, in fact, a photograph of John posing with a Dalek. The photo was taken sometime in 1964. I believe that it was taken at the premiere of DR. WHO AND THE DALEKS, though it could also have been taken at BBC studios (during the era when the Beatles were doing radioshows for the Beeb). Sadly, I do not have a copy of it, either on my hard drive or in myBeatles collection. However, it is shown in the DALEKMANIA documentary that was released with the remastered Cushing films about six years ago."

Thank you for all this info, I am the Paulrus. I don't know anything about Dr.Who, although I like the concept of timetravelling very much. I am sorry I can't help you with the photo of John posing with a Dalek, but I am keeping my fingers crossed you will find it some day.

That was super cool! I love how the original Dr Who had the Beatles on! Too cool!

Wunjo & everyone, Here it is. The photo was shown in a documentary called "Dalekmania" that told the story of the two Peter Cushing DW films. Nothing was mentioned about JL and the Dalek in the photo. It was from a newspaper clipping. Didn't give a date, any facts of the photo or where John was with this Dalek, or the name of the newspaper that it appeared in. It could have beem at a cinema or BBC-TV Studios. Judging by John's hair, I'd say the pic was taken was around 1965.

Michelle Ryan of Bionic Woman' and 'Eastenders' fame is to play David Tennant's next sidekick in an episode of Dr Who this year and is in talks to take over the role permanently alongside the new Doc.

Doctor Who role for ex-EastEnder Friday, 23 January 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7844899.stm Michelle Ryan with the current Doctor Who, David Tennant. Former EastEnders star Michelle Ryan and comedian Lee Evans will guest star in Doctor Who's Easter special, the BBC has confirmed. Ryan will play the mysterious Lady Christina de Souza in the special episode, entitled Planet of the Dead. "I'm a huge fan of Doctor Who and very excited to be joining David Tennant and the Doctor Who team," she said. Evans plays a character called Malcolm, whose life becomes connected to the Doctor's in unusual circumstances. Planet of the Dead is the first of four Doctor Who specials, marking the end of David Tennant's tenure as the Time Lord. 'Can't wait' Ryan is best known for playing Zoe Slater in the BBC One soap and starring in the American remake of Bionic Woman. Recently, there has been speculation that she could be cast as the Doctor's new assistant, when Tennant's replacement, Matt Smith, takes on the role next year. It is not known whether this appearance rules her out of that role - Catherine Tate's character Donna Noble first appeared in a Doctor Who Christmas special 15 months before she returned as the Doctor's assistant. Ryan said: "It is such a fantastic show and I can't wait to get started." Executive producer and writer Russell T Davies said: "Michelle is one of the most sought-after young actors in the country and we are delighted to announce that she will be joining the team. "As always the script is being kept strictly under wraps. However, we can reveal that Lady Christina is a woman with a mysterious past who's going to have a huge impact on the Doctor." Filming on the episode has already begun in Wales.

More inside gossip on the recent New Doctor Who story....... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Martin Clunes said 'no' to Doctor Who Martin Clunes was poised to become the new Doctor Who ? but it is claimed he pulled out in a row over cash. The Men Behaving Badly star had signed up for the Christmas special with producers wanting to give him the full-time job this year. But four days before filming, the deal is said to have collapsed as terms could not be agreed. David Morrissey, 44, was cast instead at the last minute as a second Time Lord opposite David Tennant, 37. Bosses were desperate for Clunes, 47, to fill Tennant?s shoes if the special episode had gone well. In the end, they chose the relatively unknown Matt Smith who was much cheaper to cast. A source said: ?Producers wanted Martin to take over Tennant?s job full-time and were desperate to see him in the Christmas episode. They saw it as a trial for the main job but they found the whole casting process very frustrating. ?Talent comes at a price and the show could simply not afford Martin. It?s a shame as he would have been perfect.? Clunes?s first ever job in TV was in Doctor Who in 1983 alongside Peter Davison as the Time Lord. Talking about the role on chat show Parkinson, Clunes joked: ?I thought that I was brilliant. ?I do remember thinking at the time ?pretty good stuff, Clunesy?.? The source added: ?It was a bit of a scramble to get David Morrissey but he did a brilliant job and was also considered as a contender to replace Tennant. But the man they really wanted was Clunes. ?But they?re very happy with Matt and think he?ll be brilliant. Not to mention that he?s a bit cheaper.? Matt, 26, was revealed as the 11th and youngest Time Lord last month. Clunes is best known for his role in sitcom Men Behaving Badly, for which he won a Bafta in 1996. He has since appeared in ITV?s Goodbye Mr Chips, William and Mary and Doc Martin. Last night Clunes?s agent admitted he had been approached for the Doctor Who Christmas special but denied there was a dispute over cash and that the deal collapsed four days before filming. A show spokesman added: ?We don?t comment on casting.? >>>>>>>>>>> That explains a lot........ Also........Martha Jones is in at least one of the forthcoming episodes of DW as the Doc's assistant again. This is interesting coz she dropped the DW/Torchwood team in the clarts by signing for another TV series when she had promised to do another series of Torchwood and they had to tear up the new scripts and start again.

The Dalek of the deep: Doctor Who's nemesis is found in pond By Daily Mail Reporter 04th March 2009 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1159149/The-Dalek-deep-Doctor-Whos-nemesis-pond.html Excavate! Excavate! Volunteer Mark Oakland with the Dalek's head he dredged up. Who's this? Mr Oakland made the discovery at the pond in Beaulieu, Hampshire. Enemy: Daleks, like above, were taken to the area for filming during the 1980s. Volunteer Marc Oakland was stunned when he pulled the head of a Dalek from the murky depths of a pond he was helping to clean. The 42-year-old sales executive found part of Doctor Who?s arch nemesis as he pushed a rake along the surface while wading waist-high in water. He said: ?I?d just shifted a tree branch with my foot when I noticed something dark and round slowly coming up to the surface. ?I got the shock of my life when a dalek head bobbed up right in front of me.? His group, who were clearing rubbish near Beaulieu, Hampshire, had already fished out an old table football game, dozens of lager cans and even a muddy skateboard. But the last thing they were expecting to find was a full size head from one of the Time Lord?s most feared adversaries complete with its distinctive eye stalk. ?It must have been down there for some time because it was covered in mould and water weed, and had quite a bit of damage,? said Mr Oakland. ?One of the dome lights was smashed, but the eye stalk was intact and the head and neck stayed in one piece as I carefully lifted it out.? The pitiless Daleks, famed for killing their enemy with a death ray after screeching ?exterminate?, were taken to the area to film episodes in the 1980s. Pond warden Tony Brown, 70, who led the volunteers, said: ?We made a very thorough search of the rest of the bottom of the pond and there were definitely no alien remnants lurking. ?We?ve all agreed it best to keep the pond?s exact location under wraps. ?The last thing we want are sci-fi fans descending on the pond frantically seraching for other dalek parts.? Mr Brown, who has been helping clear out the area for the past eight years, said: ?We?ve dredged up everything from shopping trolleys, toys, and bicycles. ?But this is the first time a dalek?s appeared. We have no idea how it ended up in there, or how long ago. ?The local council collected the rest of the junk we pulled out, but we?ve kept the dalek head and are getting a dalek expert to have a look at it. ?After doing some research, we discovered the BBC often took the daleks out on location for filming, and they travelled to Hampshire on at least one occasion in the 1980s, when Colin Baker played the Time Lord. ?Jon Pertwee also made a few Doctor Who episodes in the county during the 1970s. ?Who knows, this might be the remains of one of the originals from the old TV series. I?m told they they were built to last.?
