Collecting Beatles Memorabilia!
-
When you watch a antique art programme on the TV and the specialist say's "That's not by the artist" You think how do they know? : Well collecting and authenticating Beatles signatures is like that. When you look at enough authentic sets and a dodgy one comes up, it stands out like a sore thumb. Oh and another thing worth doing is collecting old auction cats, these all have top quality pictures of sets that have sold in the past. Learn the basics thing first, Like Ringo stopped signing the word Starr after his name in 1992 and replaced it with a symbol of a *. So why is this seller selling a full name signed Ringo album that was released in 2001? There are hundreds of things you can learn to help you. When did Paul start joining the M of McCartney to the 2Cs of McCartney? A: Around March/April of 1963 So this guys selling a McCartney signed Pepper's album that has a 1962/63-style signature, so you know something fishy there: D This list of tips could go on and on, but if I told you all I know it would take the fun out of the leaning part. Oh and I am obsessed and a bit of a Beatles anorak as such, but I love it ops

yes, steve you said it in a nutshell. btw forget64...if you go here: http://macca.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=57302&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=lelands&start=0 you will see alot of autograph collections of mine, steve's and other members here. it's worth looking at that thread...and of course, this one. as i mentioned to you...i usually obtain most of my autographs from auction houses such as lelands, rr enterprises and itsonlyrocknroll...However, every so often you will see a Beatles autograph on ebay! I usually don't bid on the autograph unless it already comes with a COA from Perry Cox or Frank Caiazzo, in which I would personally contact them and ask if, in fact, it is their signed letter of COA. ..sometimes you will see signed checks by Ringo or George on ebay (these are pretty much authentic) but expect to pay alot!!!...remember if it appears too good to be true...it probably is!!! ...and there are also a few reputable dealers on ebay...perry cox is one of them! ...i also listed a few in the pm i sent you! . now if you go to www.beatlesautographs.com you will get an idea of what Beatles signatures look like; era of autograph, etc. One more thing, lithographs with artists signature are authentic (I have Piggies signed by George and a lithograph of john signed by yoko) also ringo has genuine gartlan signatures out there. also Songs of Harrison Vol. I & II; Live in Japan (these are Genesis books signed by George--they are genuine--but hard to find) ...expect to pay ALOT!!! now if you can personally meet Paul & Ringo at a signing...you can get a genuine autograph. ...as i mentioned in the past....meeting ringo started my obsession with obtaining beatles autographs. one more thing, when you obtain an autograph by one of the beatles, try to pay the additional amount for a COA from frank or perry, cuz this actually raises the value of the autograph!! ...i also explained prices in the pm i sent you. one time i bought an autograph, got it, and decided to email frank....it cost me $50 for him to tell me it was fake. ...never again will i buy an autograph without first speaking with either one of them...and of course, steve and i sometimes converse with with one another when we see something. ...and as steve mentioned, we are not professionals, but would offer our opinion. ...i also find it totally amazing of all the fake autographs i see on ebay! Good Luck!

I would be a little bit nervous about hanging it on the wall as well, but I'm sure it can be done. I think it looks really nice as is on the guitar stand, so either way you decide to display it, it's gonna look great!
thanks michelle..(yeah i think right now i'll just use the stand...but i will check out how they display guitars at the guitar center..) ..hey did your hubby come back with all your goodies from the beatles store at the mirage??? ...gotta go, talk to you guys again on monday.
Yep. He got back last night and gave me all my goodies. I'm going to take a picture of all of it tonight and post on the "what's the last Beatles item you bought" thread.

got any birthdays or anniversaries coming up?????? just wanted to let you guys know that if you're interested in getting a hand-signed Ringo figure...they are still available at The Fest for Beatles fans.....for $325.00

Do you think my fan club letter signed by Mal Evans for all four Beatles, might be worth something?. :lol
-
I've never noticed this sub-forum, so forgive me if this is the wrong place for this. But I thought you might be interested in my story. In about 1968 I was a novice Beatles fan. A girl at school told me that her sister had a Beatles scrap book and a few other Beatles bits that she would be prepared to sell me for 5 shillings - this is 25p nowadays - about 50 cents. So I bought them. The contents were: One scrapbook with various chewing gum cards of the lads along with magazine clippings Ringo Roll wrapper (a transparent bread loaf wrapper with pictures of Ringo, the unprinted edges trimmed to minimise its size) FanClub flexidiscs for 1963, 1965 1966 and 1967 Various Beatles Official Fan club newsletters The Ringo Roll I've seen in Tracks for about $1,000 though mine having been cut will have a much reduced value, I guess. And the flexidiscs are obviously valuable. I've always felt guilty about it - I didn't realise at the time just how much I had ripped her off (or that I had at all - I was only 13!). Now I have seen her name on a School Reunion website. I'm thinking of sending her payment - enough to salve my conscience but, as I will never sell them, it can't be too much because there'll be no income to balance the sale. Any thoughts?
-
Mike, that is a very tricky question, of course back in 1968 it was not worth as much as it is now. The flexi-disc alone could be worth a lot depending on what shape they are in. At least you paid her something for it at the time, but if you tried to pay her what is is worth now, you might be paying her a lot of money.
-
mike i agree with thomas (beatman).. ..when you bought it way back then, they weren't worth much...she didn't want it so she sold it to you!!!! ...who would have known that Beatles memorabilia would skyrocket in time!!!. ..you shouldn't feel guilty or feel that you need to compensate her further.. ...remember, it was YOU who decided to SAVE this stuff!!! ...if you think about it!!!...do you think she would have saved her Beatles stuff all these years???? ...i honestly don't think so! GOOD FOR YOU!!!

That's a very good point. It always amazes me the fact that this sort of stuff is worth money precisely because there's not so much of it around. Because a lot of people never kept it. I mean, who on earth threw away their flexidiscs? :
-
mike...even today people buy stuff and get rid of it..albums included!!!!....without even thinking?????...and i'm certain many people got rid of their beatles stuff, when they boycotted all beatles records because of what john said way back...that, "the beatles were more popular than Jesus." i bet they are really sorry now! hey if you can take a picture of your stuff.....i'd really like to see it!
-
I has some picture sleeves that got thrown away, at the time of course I did not think much about, but now I could kick myself. I had to re-buy them and they were of course a lot more now, then back then.
-
Mike, I agree with Beatlemaniac and Beatman, you did not rip this person off, you paid a fair price for those items at the time. You were the one who held on to it all these years so I would not feel guilty at all. I'm not sure how long ago it was, but she probably doesn't even remember, and if she does remember, she probably doesn't know the value of the items. I would not bring it up to her because you don't owe her a thing!

When I a kid I had a TON of Star Wars merchandise, comic books, trading cards - I had the entire set of cards from all three original movies. In Jr. High, I had an "I'm too cool for school" moment and threw them all away. What a dumb thing for me to do!! I'm sure those are worth money now, but hey it's just one of those things. Sure it's upsetting, but i'm not losing any sleep over it. Stuff happens.

boy you ain't kidding (((thomas)))). ...i can't believe how much everything costs out there????....once in a blue moon you will find a bargain; .. but the majority of stuff (especially the old memorabilia)...is quite steep in prices!

Hmmm, nobody must have anything new (including me). Hope everone is doing well.

I don't collect memorabilia, I only have a few things that you could call memorabilia. I have this Revolver songbook I found in a antique store, a Beatles shirt (don't worry, it's not ancient, it's pretty much brand new), an Abbey Road poster and a Wings poster (I know it's not Beatles... but... I got that from the inside of the Wings Greatest album, the vinyl version which I borrowed from my grandmother. I mostly "collect" Beatles records. Not CDs, but the original vinyl records. I say collect in quotes because I listen to them. I don't just keep them somewhere. The whole point of having them is to listen to them. I take good care of them, and I don't listen to them too often, especially if I have it on iTunes or CD. Some I don't have on CD, like The White Album (yeah, I don't have The White Album on CD *gasp*), Magical Mystery Tour and Let It Be.
