Ringo auctions off his White Album

Quite cheap really, if I'd known about the auction I'd have purchased a couple of them. This was the last Beatles CD I got because it was always so expensive. I grew up with a vinyl edition of my brothers that was passed to me in about 1988. This replaced a cassette I had which my stereo always chewed up (was it the stereo that did this or the tape??) Anyway, I replaced all my vinyl to CD, but could never stretch to the white album as it was so expensive. I think it was about ?30!! Years later when I started earning, I did buy it, it was a slimline edition in a posh sleeve. But it didn't feel right, in the end I had to buy a second hand copy from eBay of the original CD (in a fat box) and this was my ultimate edition... Until 9/9/99

I always thought John had the "1" numbered White Album.

Yeah, I thought it would be sold for much more than that, considering the condition & literally its the only one ever made.

I thought he already auctioned it off last year.

He did, but it seems that he just received the Guinness World Record for it last month.

He got a record for selling a record? Shouldn't the person who bought the record get the Guinness record? That's who set the record.

Guinness apparently doesn't track it that way. This is from their website: Also new this year in the world of music is Beatles' legend Ringo Starr for the record Most expensive vinyl record sold at auction. A mono copy of the Beatles White Album sold by Ringo fetched $790,000 (?522,43
at Julien's Auction house in Los Angeles, California, USA on 5th December 2015. The first pressing of the 1968 chart-topped, number 0000001, was stored by Ringo in a vault for 35 years and was auctioned in near mint condition. http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/press-release/2016/8/chart-topping-artists-rock-the-guinness-world-records-2017-edition

Glad to see Ringo had the good sense to keep it in good shape & in safe hands for all these years!
