Ringo's never been a strong singer.... and he's often off-key. But it's usually at least passable. I've seen several of Ringo's All-Starr band tours, and he does alright. But after watching clips all the clips from last night, Ringo sounded really bad. If they do indeed release the show as a live album or a DVD, I wonder if Ringo will be able to re-record his vocal track.
Yes, he sounded bad, but does that matter really?
It matters in the sense that I mentioned.... a potential DVD release could technically be thwarted due to Ringo's sour vocals. I don't know if they would want to put that out there, as is.
There's lots of DVD with poor vocals and no-one expect perfection from Ringo anyway.
There's a big difference between Ringo's usual typical live vocals.... and the vocals he displayed at Radio City. Yes, no one expects perfection from Ringo. But was time was almost embarrassing. Hopefully in post-production, they can separate the vocals from the music, and have Ringo come to a studio and record a new part (sorta like what Paul did for the Live Aid DVD.... though that was a little different, since his vocals were missing in the first place)
-
So what about Ringo's vocal... ...Ringo might've hit a note or two that wasn't as precise as it could've been. This was fantastic to see. And hear! I look at the bigger picture, and 'll use this as an example: When I saw the audience-shot footage of Paul performing "Only Mama Knows" at The Olympia in Paris in '07, I was delighted to hear what sounded like the whole audience singing along. Singing along to a NEW Macca classic, people! And on the part where Paul hits that high, falsetto "I never knewwww," the audience was so off-key, but I got such a joy-joy hearing them singing it! I think we should take a similar attitude with this weekend's long-awaited event. Now... ...let's all hope and pray Paul does "Cosmically..." at the upcoming Coachella event. -a

What happens? Our timing could not have been the greatest ever!!!!! As we were going around the tour, you could clearing hear Paul singing..."Jet", "Can't Buy Me Love", some jam we couldn't quite make out, etc. I thought at first it was a recording to check the sound. Anyway, the tour was great, but at one point they let you go into this observation room way at the top of the RCMH, the small room has a huge glass window overlooking the whole place, with HD flatscreens on the walls on both sides of the window. They told us no video or photography. As we walked in, what is on stage?!!!! Paul and Ringo center stage, sharing the same microphone, singing "With A Little Help From My Friends!" OMG!!!!
let me guess, this must have been this very moment in time, wasn't it!? http://homepage.mac.com/paul_mccartney/macca_report_news/Paul_DLF_PC_NY_BobG1574.jpg

On the tapes, Ringo sounds like he is sick actually (that he is getting over a cold). I had 2 in March and was trying to sing at times and you don't have as much control and your voice has the same quality on certain notes that his had. As others have said, so you want perfection or nothing? Methinks not. Surgery went ok. In pain but will try to get another page up today.

Very cool! I remember Ringo's jacket, much different than the evening! They were so relaxed, and Ringo sounded better. I am sure it was recorded, as it was broadcast up to the room we were in (HD Flatscreens)...totally unbelievable!!! Podgie (Hard to believe that we got to Believe in the Unbelievable Experience!) The gig!!!~ april 5th where to begin? Eddie Vedder told a story about being up for days as a security guard playing music and watching Eraserhead ( a DAVID lYNCH FILM ) over and over again..with no sleep, seeing cougars,(The animal species)_ driving next to him when he went home at night! lol It's funny, this entire weekend was a whirlwind!~ With no sleep, 15 plus hours in 3 days, a few minor mishaps, running on adrenaline, but so worth it for this charity event. .... more later, I cannot type. I'm almost comatose More on the Gig David Lynch, Change Begins Within April 6th We get to Radio City Music Hall which was only a few minute walk. I am wondering where Dear boy (John) & Nobodytoldme (Luuk) were at? I than met them and their mums. It was soo freakin cool, cuz we were all so freakin excited including their mums, ahhh so sweet. They gave me hugs for getting them tickets for their sons to the gig-which by the way was purely luck. This made me misty beyond words. People kept asking me if I had extra tix..I told a few people why not check the box office ' The front of Radio City was buzzing with people. There was an old hippie standing in front of Radio City holding a framed piccie of The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi-also a small foto of George Harrison. hehehehe ...I had to take a piccie of him. Hopefully I can upload some of them. . There also was someone from the DLF filming in the front of Radio City. I told him that Luuk, was from the Netherlands and this was his first time to see Paul McCartney & Ringo ever! I hope he got that on film? heheheh We finally had to go stand in line around the building which moved with a quickness, (security would not let us take piccies of the Paul McCartney billboard posted of the side -sadly,) than we were in! The inside was absolutely beautiful art decco style, breath taking. I than had to get me a beer than into the mad crowd surrounding the souvenir booth. I bought three tee's 1 black, 1 blue & 1 purple tee. also the one poster of Paul McCartney "Change Begins Within" I wanted the cool limited edition posters- but it was very pricey at $100 a pop. This same poster was created by the same artist who created the Obama poster & the Sgt. Pepper inspired poster- which I do have... so, then we were all off- to our seats. I entered the theater, so beautiful, and found my seat in Orches. 2, 15 rows back. off to the right. The concert began and out comes David Lynch, a true host and gentlemen. . There was a great vibe kicking in that very moment- when Mr. Lynch, entered onto the stage. It began with a video which a can barely recall at this moment. a solo drummer pounding on the drum when each artist was announced- Angelo Badalamenti began playing a haunting version of Twin Peaks, on the piano. Very beautiful- it gave me goose bumps! .. next Bettye LaVette-wow! can this woman, sing her heart out !! another great performance. I had never heard of Ms. LaVette, I was extremely impressed with her set, full of soulful blueys emotion. Molby, was next. and sure enuff I cannot remember what Moby sang at all?-oops! I was fooling around with the Blackberry attempting to take piccies. The memory is slowly coming back due to my lack of sleep! .* another short vid of meditation for kids in schools than David Lynch introduced Laura Dern. I cannot recall, not a single word, she said that stood out ~ ohhh... . Than came Sheryl Crow with Ben Harper on slide guitar- who did a moving rendition of "My Sweet Lord" dedicated to George Harrison. The crowd were on their feet singing along to this one. Finally a shot of adrenaline for the crowd to participate, At times, I thought the audience was not sure- whether people should get up and dance and sing along with the performers? This was great performance-well done Sheryl & Ben..wish I had vids to post of this gig.... . I was a bit disappointed that Russell Simmons wasn't actually there as they showed a taped version of his support,of the DLF,and mediation for kids. Ben Harper was next and played a cool lil set. Than both Eddie Vedder & Ben Harper did a freakin awesome cover of Under Pressure!~ coolio! that was a heart pounding performance, with audience participation of the clapping -bits. . intermission time: Radio City Music Hall, is huge and the bathrooms were just as lovely as the rest of the venue..I had to post it, ha! cool mint green, art decco, bathrooms~ . There were some very friendly people at this event. People commented, on my hat-Yes,that was me, in the black top hat with the sliver glittery letters-that say Macca on front Member on the back, just in case we said hello in passing. . Some people, wanted my hat..No, it's mine!!~I joked. One older gentlemen said "Are we having fun yet?!" Yes, we are I said..hehehehe. I was very happy to meet some friendly New Yorkers as this was my first time to visit the city. Thankyou. I missed most of what Mike Love said as I was coming back from downstairs. . The next artist was Donovan. who I couldn't actually believe, I was seeing live?-I told the women next to me..Michelle. He did "Hurdy Gurdy" man-wow! it started out a bit rough. I was especially surprised to hear "Wear your love like heavan" I haven't heard that song, since I what?? 8 years old...Than Season of the Witch with Sheryl Crow.. . Donovan, spoke of George Harrison, hanging out with him in India, lovely. He had a special guitar man in his honor, (that almost made me cry. I was tearing up.) It was a lovely, robins egg, blue, accoustic guitar, which he played. (The maker of the guitar came out & handed it to Donovan) Paul Horn than played a piece on the flute-called meditation. . Next- out, Howard Stern, Right on! Howard, was so real and genuine on his story about how he was lead by his mother to a local meditation center at the early age of 19 that changed his whole life. 'Who would of thought a guy like me would be into meditation' said Howard? . Howard Stern, stated Meditation saved his mother life - I was touched deeply. . He had joked 'You don't have to be a pussy to be into meditation' Howard Stern, was effin hillarious! props to Howard-I thought he was actually funnier than Jerry Seinfeld. Which came as a bit of a surprise to see Jerry at this event..he had some funny bits. I loved seeing Howard Stern tho. I couldn't stop laughing when Howard Stern, told his lil stories-brilliant! Howard. part 2 later I have to take a nap...... ops:

A few random thoughts: -- Ringo and Paul looked and sounded great and seem way younger than they are! -- Radio City Music was a great venue...beautiful room, great sound -- There where many good things about the show, but overall it felt just a little underwhelming considering all the high expectations and potential of what could have been. Seeing Paul and Ringo together was really cool...but the pacing of the show and Paul's lackluster setlist of concert staples kept it from really "taking off". I Saw Her Standing There again...getting really stale. -- Audience members texting during the show, constantly holding up glowing phones in your view, etc...distracting and so rude. Why can't people just be in the moment and enjoy the show? Why are you texting your friend across town now? Just rubbing it in? If the show was really that great you would be looking at the stage not your phone. -- Missed opportunity: Too bad Mike Love wasn't utilized for Back In The U.S.S.R. (could have been a great Beatles and Beach Boys moment with an India link...I guess there's bad blood with Mike) -- Funny moment...Donovan (bless his heart) actually did an Austin Powers dance move (with V-fingers across eyes) during Season of the Witch and I don't think he was being ironic. Cut it out Dad...you're embarrassing us! -- Favourite moment: Paul and Ringo pretending to get in front of each other for applause attention at the end of the show and hugging as they walked off stage...a nice image of old friends. The best thing about this show (for me) was sharing it with my best friend.

Hi all, I just got home from the most magical NYC weekend--I'm sorry to add yet one more story about the concert, especially when so many others have done an amazing job of recapping the events! *The top moment of the concert, non-Ringo and Paul-related, was Eddie Veder and Ben Harper singing "Under Pressure"--it was well done, and a great way to get psyched up for the mad dash to the bathrooms during the 10 minute intermission. ) *After "Yellow Submarine" was over, a gentleman turned to those of us around him and said that we had just had the unique experience of a 6,000 person karaoke event. ) *A little girl, no more than 9, was sitting next to me in the first mezzanine while her parents were scattered about the second and third mezzanine. When Paul came on , she was one of the loudest people there. She was standing, belting out Wings and Paul's solo work, at the top of her lungs, along with the rest of us Paul fanatics--very cool to see! *Crowd energy in the first mezzanine where I was couldn't have been more off the charts. A four hour concert, minus David Lynch and Laura Dern's somewhat painful Q & A sessions, felt like it lasted no longer than one hour because of the amazing performances. Poor Donovan sounded a bit off, but his energy was contagious. (My sister and I wound up walking behind him the next a.m. for about a block--he's a spry, shorter man, for sure!) *On Sunday, while heading to Strawberry Fields in Central Park, my sister and I stopped to ride the carrousel. As the horses were moving around and around, up and down, what song should be played over the loudspeakers? "Obladi Oblida"! We laughed and sang along at the top of our lungs. Then we met a woman from Holland in the park and talked about Beatles memories with her, as well. This concert was THE best one I've ever been to, bar none, and will be one that I will never, ever forget (mostly because I used up four memory cards on it!). I'll be posting the photos on my myspace this week some time, and will post a link to it when they go up. P.S. If the woman who was wearing the top hat with MACCA in silver letters on it is a board member, I wanted to compliment the very cool headwear! )

Did you feel the floor moving? I was getting a little nervous.

What a night!! I can still hardly believe I was there. I was sitting downstairs, way over to the side but with a good view of the stage, near a bunch of rather sedate folks who didn't seem all that enthused about any of the performers. All you guys up in the mezzanine - I gotta tell ya, the crowd noise that was coming from "upstairs" was amazing and I felt like you all were having a lot more fun than the folks downstairs near me. Gotta give a shout-out to the kids at Weaver High in Hartford, CT who comprised the choir behind Betty Lavette and Moby (as if they would even be looking at a Paul McCartney board LOL) - Weaver is one of the schools that is doing the TM program and it has made a difference in the lives of the students who meditate. Too bad Moby forgot the name of their school when he talked about them. Anyway, it was such a special night. Thanks to all who have been reporting their stories, it's great to share the excitement.
