What I'm doing 3.0 - Second Special Comeback

Well, is the first online show, I don't want to worry about the songs I'll play... I'll have enough to worry about. What do you miss? You don't expect me to do a James Brown classic on the piano, don't you? anything from Elvis? or anything from Paul? I'd like to find what people use to play there.... http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/stageit.com here's a breakdown of the audience... USA (75%) and (5%) UK, kind of young people, maybe my setlist is too old fashioned and should get some newer songs in. Though the most distintive trait is that the usual audience hasn't got children... hmmm.... something about not having children? lol some popular artists that will play or have played there (popular=I know who they are...) Jason Marz, Korn, Kris Allen, Plain White T's, Lee DeWyze I'm Yours, I used to sing that one, a bit of a tongue in cheek for me, no way I do it in a first concert. As for the "idols", I found Lee Dewyze is popular for covering Hallejuhah, he did Hey Jude too, you know... maybe I start playing Let It Be and people starts typing "What the heck is that?" I don't know. And that's what I know now.

Well, being the charlatan producer that I am , my suggestions for you are the following: -definitely NO James Brown! You're a great, talented guy, but you are definitely NOT funky. But, seriously... -a Ben Folds Five song -"The Stranger" - Billy Joel -"A Word In Spanish" - Elton John Just make sure your setlist isn't full of "heavy" songs...don't want to be maudlin.

Have you noticed that what we're doing here would be this board's dream? I mean discussing the setlist with Paul... can you imagine Paul asking us what we would like to hear? well... you got that, no James Brown Ben Folds who? lol I don't know these guys... well I'll listen to something but I should have to kind of fall in love with one of their songs in order to play it there. The Stranger is not one of my Billy Joel's favs... same with A Word in Spanish... the point of me doing covers are 2: -I sing something I'm very familar, something I've listened to and sung to a lot... -I sing something people that are familiar with... if they hear the songs for the first time is just like if they hear a song I wrote that's why I choosed that ones from Elton and Billy, or something like that... "heavy songs"/maundlin you mean ballads?, well that's the main problem of singing only with a piano or a guitar, it's quite ballad after ballad, things use to get that way, that slow. Or do you mean songs that are too popular? As for getting not ballads in, yes... Rock and roll, maybe Great Balls... I must take a look of my file of the best 1000 songs ever written... hmmm.... Rocking All Over The World?, Don't Stop?, Badlands? Another Brick In The Wall?, Baba O'Riley? I'll guess I choose the one with the less complicated lyrics... UPDATE I've found that Rocking All Over the World never did a thing in the USA, so I guess it's unknown there... Now I'm searching for Don't Stop (Fleetwood Mac) and I've found "Don't Stop Believin", the Journey, now that will be great, master Steve Perry!... not a rocker exactly, I've never ever played or sung that one, maybe! Don't Stop seems a great choice, lyrics are virtually the same thing over and over and chords too... As for Badlands, it could seem like a ballad when done only with piano The wall, I must try it on piano, it could be great. Easy lyrics and chords. Baba O Riley is a song I like sooooooo much to sing. Kind of like the wall, I don't know how it will fit only with piano. So now the possible setlist is something like: Let It Be or Yesterday or Hey Jude -We Are The Champions or Bohemian Rhapsody (this one has too many chords but I like challenges..) -Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me -Piano Man and some of these, the higher in this list, the more likely -Don't Stop -Don't Stop Believin -Baba O Riley -Rock And Roll (meant to be singing standing, not sitting, lol) -Blue Moon of Kentucky? -Another Brick In The Wall -One Moment In Time? -Without You? -Great Balls Of Fire? -Badlands -Rocking All Over The World -Mad World? -Stairway To Heaven? (not likely if I do Rock and Roll) -One (U2 not Metallica's )? -November Rain?

Examples of maudlin songs: We Are The World Sometimes When We Touch Ebony & Ivory (sorry, Paul)
I'll never do Ebony and Ivory unless that friend of mine that went on TV comes here to join me. If he did it will be a must. I've thought of doing We Are The World but I thought it could be a huge mess, I sang it you know, but with a background. So you don't mean ballads exactly? but depending on the lyrics, I mean is Let It Be that? anyway I want to put some not ballads in. Not that I'll get to but kind of.
-
I've just thought of another one, quite appropiate, on piano, not on guitar
-
Now, I'm taking a look at my most downloaded files. It's been a loooong time since I don't post anything like this: September 2012 (the month) madworld.mp3 448 iwanttoflyaway.mp3 211 suspiciousminds.mp3 193 bohemianrhapsody.mp3 138 thedayyouaretheone.mp3 112 wearethechampions.mp3 103 beautifulgirlsintheworld.mp3 100 thatstheworldthatibelongto.mp3 92 wolfgang.mp3 63 thedaythesongswillbeoverstrings.mp3 61 peace.mp3 58 thedaythesongswillbeover.mp3 57 ificandream.mp3 48 So, well, if some of the people downloading and listening would be in the online broadcast then I could play my songs, cause they already know them. But I don't have a clue if that's going to happen. The broadcast will not be free. But you can watch it for 10 cents. That's it, the tenth part of a US Dollar. I've kind of forgotten about Mad World, a complicated one. I think I'll do it. I guess I must play with biggest "hit", it has been downloaded like 20000 times, I don't know how many times really... So now the possible setlist is something like: -Let It Be or Yesterday or Hey Jude -We Are The Champions or Bohemian Rhapsody (this one has too many chords but I like challenges..) -Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me -Piano Man and some of these, the higher in this list, the more likely -Mad World -Don't Stop -Don't Stop Believin -Baba O Riley -Baby What You Want Me To Do -Rock And Roll (meant to be singing standing, not sitting, lol) -Blue Moon of Kentucky? -Another Brick In The Wall -One Moment In Time? -Without You? -Great Balls Of Fire? -Badlands -Rocking All Over The World -Mad World? -Stairway To Heaven? (not likely if I do Rock and Roll) -One (U2 not Metallica's )? -November Rain? I think I'll do the first 11 songs on this list Blue Moon of Kentucky Let It Be Don't Stop Piano Man Baba O Riley Baby What You Want Me To Do Mad World Rock And Roll Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me Don't Stop Believin We Are The Champions that's 45 minutes or so
-
OK, it's already decided, I will do this, unless I face some unexpected problem with some of the songs, then I'll replace it with other. yes, I could play this or that, or... but One can't be thinking much "I could play this, or this, or this... or maybe that" I just have to choose and start focusing only in those and forget about the rest I could play... Also because I want to move to all that bout recording and editing songs I've written too, you know. So for worse or for better, unless unexpected change: (hey! links with lyrics, so I can remind some) Blue Moon of Kentucky
Let It Be Don't Stop Piano Man Baba O Riley Baby What You Want Me To Do Mad World Rock And Roll Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me Don't Stop Believin We Are The Champions Hey Audi! what does Elvis really says?, lol, he doesn't sing "Any way you wanna let it roll" "and the piano sounds like a CARNIVORE?" A Carnival -
Decent variety...however...ending with Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me/Don't Stop Believin/We Are The Champions...=? That's an awful lot of schmaltz and drama.

Well, I have not decided the order, but sure We Are The Champions will be the last one. It's just got to be... "I've paid my dues...." Don't the let the sun must be towards the end cause it's a long long song. Well, as long as I want it to be, lol. But certainly more than 5 minutes, that's a bore at the beginning. Don't Stop Believin, I don't even know the song much, what's the drama on that? Anyway, hey, or should I say, heyhey.... We Are The Champions is just the opposite of "maundlin" is the boldest song there is... "we are the champions of the world"" "I consider it a challenge before the whole human race - And I ain't gonna lose - " go figure, lol It's not all very funky, that's for sure, I have not cared much bout the lyrics, but there is less drama than on an Elton John show, or a Paul show I think! Now Mad World, that is drama... so much I didn't thought of doing it and bring all down, but it's so downloaded... I sometimes did it on karaokes and people told me that they liked it more than all my performances of that night... I'm not mad about it, but that's "for the audience" or so. The important thing is about BWYWMTD lyrics, lol I think Elvis sings something like "Anyway you want.. I say? ...roll" 1.24
Maybe this one is for the Elvis experts. -
now this is completely out of the topic of Itunes of Stageit Opera Reseach Update I've been doing some research on opera singing. I wanted to figure out why is that my ears hurt when I sing opera... or kind of opera.... Decibels are the unit that measure how loud is a sound, ok. -85 db is the start of ear damage, that buzz in the ears after being into a loud disco -105 db is the start of ear pain, sometimes at rock concerts if you're close to the huge amps or even in discos too Okey! -80 db is an opera singer singing loud "forte", think Pavarotti in "guardi l'stelle" in Nessun Dorma -90 db is an opera singer singing"molto forte", think Pavarotti in "sulla tua boca" in the same aria I've been doing like 80-90 db and I thought I should feel no pain, maybe a little buzz just like being into a loud place. And I have only sung for some minutes. Okey! BUTTTTT the operatic way is projecting the voice up, resonating into your own head. And then the sounds louder especially on your head!. What outside sounds like 80 db are 110 db into your head! And that's when it hurts. And there's no way to avoid that. If you wear earplugs you delete the outside sound, but not the internal sound. Actually some opera singers do wear earplugs so they don't hear the one they're singing with so loud, but the internal sound on his own voice on his head is always damaging. From "forte" on it actually hurts. If you sing opera but "piano", then is something like 50-60 db PLUS the internal +30 of the resonation in your head and that's 80-90 db then it's somewhere at the limits of self-damage. "Piano" like Maria Callas at start of O Mio Babbino Caro. 80 db is kind of the sound of someone speaking very loud, or singing loud (without operatics, if with operatics is 80 db outside but 110 db inside :shock U2's Bono, for instance has tinnitus, ear damage and he uses to sing quite loud, for not being operatic. (Hearing Loss in Opera Singers http://valeriedejean.org/tommy3.html))

I'm just back from my first soundcheck in that web that streams concerts. System check really. Quite a surprise, no video stop or sound distortion. There was only a second where there was some kind of stop. One second in an hour. At first there was some kind of little audio echo like if I was singing on a big place (kind of reverb). Then I turned down the piano and mic volume a little and it was fixed. All that's left for me to do is equalize, maybe adding reverb, and adjusting cam parameters, like brightness and all that.
-
Ok, so it worked. The audio definition was 640x480 and 25 frames per second, TV like ain't it? I haven't tried HD, it could work or it could create speed problems. As for audio it was mp3 at 128Kps. The standard mp3 rate. One tenth of a CD audio file. So, I know that it works with no problems as that, at least. I don't know if I'll add reverb or not. It could sound too much "studio" like without reverb, or should I say "Un-live" as there would be no reverb at all, there are no big loudspeakes in a hall, like in offline concerts. I mean, it would be weird that a live thing sounds just like a recording. Another thing I'm questioning is if to anounce the setlist or not. When I'm thinking of going to a concert I want to know what they play first. But as far as I know no-one announces their setlists, whether online or offline... well... orchestras do. My fav show of this kind, the performer all alone with an instrument, is Elton John MTV Unplugged Most of it is on youtube now
-
Now this is weird, this Sunday Seth Riggs will "perform" there The world's most famous vocal coach http://www.sethriggs.com/ http://www.stageit.com/seth_riggs/how_to_set_up_your_sls_studio/14876 PS I've just enter his website and seen "McCartney" on his client list... JESSE McCARTNEY, for a second I though Paul has been with Seth Riggs.

I've been rehearsing the songs a little at the piano (yes, it's a keyboard but I like to call it piano, cause "keyboard" sounds to me like a computer keyboard, anyway I play it with piano sound more than 90 % of the time...) Kind of what I expected, there are songs that are complicated but as I'm familiar with need not much preparation, like Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. And then there's stuff like Don't Stop Believin which I never ever played so it's like I need to get familar with it all, I'll think I'll leave the songs with more room to improvisation and fun to the end. Like Baby What You Want Me To Do, Don't let the sun of Rock and Roll. Today I think of a setlist as this: 1 Let It Be 2 Don't Stop 3 Don't Stop Believin 4 Blue Moon Of Kentucky 5 Mad World 6 Baba O'Riley 7 Piano Man that would reach the 30 minute where the "encore part" begins... in case there's someone listening 8 Baby What You Want Me To Do 9 Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me 10 Rock And Roll 11 We Are The Champions The first time I performed live I did Piano Man, at the end someone I didn't know told me she cried in some parts of the concerts, especially on Piano Man. So if someone doesn't want to cry I suggest a toilet break in Piano Man.

Opening with "Let It Be" seems premature to me. And, although you have my full support, I want it to be said for the record that I loathe the song "Don't Stop Believin'."

well, you can't please everyone... you surely like Baby what you want me to do... Yes, I know opening with Let it be is strange, but I want to open with a song I'm very familiar with.

Catch me up on the basic info, Ollie: Event name: Date: Streamed online?: Full band?
Event name: mmm... I don't know, I don't think it needs a name. Well, I should write anything under my name. Live From Home. Home Alone. oLIVEr, I don't know, Live From Home. or oLIVEr from his home or so... Date: Unknown. Well, I already got all that I need and even more. I if only had to sing I could do it tomorrow. But I must play the piano, learn the songs, and most importantly "Put it all together" says Paul: the singing, the lyrics, the piano... I just don't know how much time I'll need to get used to do it all at once, some brain connections need to grow again and that. lol. I could need a week or maybe four, I just don't know. I'm not in a hurry to do this, what I really want is, once I do one little concert, not stopping after the first one. Doing lots of little shows. Some people has done more than 80 in that website. But it will be a Sunday or a Saturday, probably Sunday. At Barcelona's 8 or 9 PM. Later it would be too late to sing here... Streamed online: yes Full band: No, just me and my keyboard/piano.
-
Not that I'm going to do an Oxford pronunciation or so but I was worried with one word: Believe "don't stop believing""Bill I believe this is killing me"... I always sing "believe", the first "e" like the one in "me"... like way most of the "e"s in English... Like I couldn't change that no matter how I try... ok no need... Paul sings "believe" the way I do in Yesterday, so I found out both pronunciations are OK. Quite strange but good for me.
