If Paul decides to Tour in 2013
-
Why would he play John Lennon's songs? He's Paul McCartney and tours as Paul McCartney. He's not the Beatles and he's not John Lennon. By all means pay tribute to him but the idea of him playing more than 1 or 2 John songs just makes no sense at all.

NO! He has many songs of his own that he has never played live. I'd much rather hear him do his own solo material.
One good thing does not exclude another ..... I would love a show with only Wings and solostuff ....
No, it sure doesn't. He does more than a fair share of Beatle songs though...why delve into John's? Just do more of his own material...say maybe from the last 30 years.
Because I can't really see why Paul wouldn't play the 'John-songs'. After all, he was part of them and they're Beatles material, so why not? I'm lucky enough to have attended quite a few concerts with Macca, and I actually think it would be quite good if he would move one step further. On my first gig, in 1972, the closest he came to a Beatle song was Long Tall Sally (as an encore), and we all know how close to the Beatles that was .... so he's come quite a bit from there, right?
I'll never deny Paul my approval to sing John's songs if it personally fulfills him, but -- if he sings them out of some sort of obligation -- these tributes document that Paul clearly respects John's music: The Word/All You Need Is Love:
Strawberry Fields Forever/Help/Give Peace A Chance: A Day in The Life/Give Peace A Chance:It never occurred to me that Paul wouldn't respect John's music - of course he does. But who, if not Macca, should play John's songs? I think (hope) he would enjoy it! Maybe he believes that John's fans feel that he should keep out of it, what do I know? I think he should do some more John-songs, and that's it.
Who should play John's songs??? Maybe a Beatles tribute band? Just kidding but he has done enough tributes to John & to the Beatles. He has ignored his own solo career...but we've have had this discussion many many times before.
I often wonder: If/whenever Paul does a all-solo show, what are we gonna b-tch about after that? I reckon that 'twould be a nice problem to have.

His voice? BTW...he can still do some Beatles songs. Unless it's the Fireman's show.

Hey there audi and my Paul board friends 2: yeah I am actually of the opinion that Paul has adequatly paid tribute to his former band the Beatles and his good friend and collaborator John. at this point he serves himself and his fans best by doing his own catalogue at his shows. I understand him continuing to do some of his classic Beatles tunes, but there's really no need anymore to do John tributes. He's done a lot of great ones in the past. If he continues to feel compelled its cool, but it can be a fine line (no pun) between paying tribute and latching on. No need to latch on to anything but his own work. He should break out Pipes of Peace if he wants to do a peace song. or Cmon People. I think John would dig those. I know I would.

Right - I wasn't after a John-tribute, I was after a Beatles tribute. Not really a tribute, but an opportunity to hear the other half of the Beatles catalogue played by .... well if Macca's not the Beatles, who is? One thing that makes me happy reading all your slamming comments to my thoughts about 'John-Beatle-songs' is that you all seem to treasure Paul's solo work. I do too, you see, having been a teenager with Wings and owning basically every one of Paul's solo records.

It would be very interesting to see Paul singing any of these songs: In My Life Norwegian Wood Tomorrow Never Knows I Am The Walrus Girl Revolution Come Together Any Lennon song would be nice, but the ones above would certainly surprise fans at his concerts.

"Norwegian Wood" would definitely get my vote. If Paul ever did an all-Fireman show, I'd like to see The Fireman cover "Tomorrow Never Knows" or "Come Together" (endless possibilities there). Paul's not angry/cynical enough to do "Revolution." And "Girl" is a bit too sexual for him to pull off ... on-stage, that is. "In My Life" would be the safest choice.

In My Life is beautiful, of course I Am the Walrus, yes Come Together - sure this would be colossal How about: Across the Universe I Should Have Known Better The One After 909 If I Fell

Good ideas, but did you know that he has already performed "One After 909" live onstage? A great surprise!

Well, no, I didn't know that. Great for those who got to hear that. It hasn't been on the set list for any of the shows I've seen, as far as I can recall.

He performed "One After 909" at the Apollo in 2010. I'm not sure about other concerts: http://www.examiner.com/article/paul-mccartney-goes-wild-at-apollo-theater-the-complete-set-list-photos He also performed it during a soundcheck last year in Florianópolis (Brazil). I was outside the stadium, so I did not watch it, but I could hear it quite clearly. Maybe he did that one at other soundchecks as well? I don't know: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=83906&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=198

Well, there you go! I missed the Apollo show with one day, but it's just the kind of show I would kill to get to. And sound checks are ..... well .... not the set list, are they ....?
