How much is Paul's booking fee?

Why do you think Brian has formed the Bayonets, Rusty played some gigs in Iceland and Abe plays solo gigs? They are intelligent men. They all know that at any time Paul could pull the plug as far as they are concerned. Nobody knows how long Paul will tour or what form it will take. When Paul stops touring, it's over for them. They are not getting song writing credits with Paul. Depending on the advice they receive from their agents and financial people, any one of the three may actually be doing better than any of the others. We don't need to know the details.
Agree. It really isn't our business how much the band makes.
-
it's actually public record..... just like we know how much Obama makes or any politician makes...... Plus , people should know how much musicians make.....just in case they want to pursue a career in music, they should know how much it pays...... In these hard economic times, people have to know the compensation for every job out there.

Knowing how much McCartney's touring band earn certainly wouldn't offer a fair representation of 'how it pays' to be a musician; it's very much a sliding scale, and can be very up and down (and more often the latter). Plus, being in Macca's band is quite a specialist opportunity! Also, while it might be interesting to know how much they earn, surely it needn't be in the public record; like us, they have a right to keep their salary private.
-
You may want it to be public record, but it isn't. Musicians make very little money, for the most part. And those who make a lot are in the 1% or 2%. How many acts can generate money like McCartney? Not many. What are the odds you will be his guitar player or drummer? Almost zero.

First link..made me dizzy! After only six minutes..he had made the equivalent of what it cost me (everything included) to see his show in Halifax NS in 2009. But it was worth it..then. I couldn't do that now..DON'T have the money and I couldn't do the walking, standing, ect. that I did then.

I finally found that Rolling Stone article from 2003 which had a small section devoted to how much Paul made during one of his 2002 concerts. It's in their archives so I can't link to it; but I copied down all the info and I can type it out if anyone wants to see it. The dollars of course are from 10 years ago, so I'm sure much has changed, but it's possible that the breakdowns or percentages haven't. They basically broke down a $145 ticket to an average 21,000 seat arena show he did in 2002 to show where all of the money went, per show. Most of it went to directly to Paul. There are many categories in the breakdown, but out of approx $634,000 in Touring Expenses (which included video, lighting, security, hotels, travel), they estimated that $50,000 of that went to Band Salaries. So not bad on a per-show basis, but as a percentage of the gross totals, to me it didn't seem like very much at all.

$50,000 for the whole band, or per musician?

They list it as for the whole band.

They list it as for the whole band.
So they are getting on average $12,000 - $13,000 each per performance. And even with a raise, I would suspect it is about $15,000 each a performance now. Not bad!
-
And that's on top of whatever retainer he is paying them.
-
We don't know if they are on retainer. They do other gigs. The band is in London now. Who is Paul socializing with? Ronnie Wood. When it comes to socializing, Paul does not treat the band as equals.
-
The band are hired guns. They probably get about $10,000 a gig, plus expenses. That is about it. I don't even think McCartney records much with the band. Having said that, maybe they are doing some recording in London for the new CD. But that is just me speculating.
-
They are definitely on a retainer, they are always available at the last minute whenever Paul wants them! They'll be earning an absolute fortune, don't kid yourselves!

If it makes you feel better to be convinced they are making an absolute fortune, knock yourself out!

Lol, it's nothing to do with making me feel better. There are musicians touring a very small scene with very little money circulating within it in Ireland that will be on a couple of thousand per night. To suggest Paul's band just sit around all year, clearing their calendar whenever Paul beckons, for anything less than a very healthy retainer is just ludicrous. They are highly sought after musicians and in my opinion they certainly aren't still touring with McCartney for artistic reasons!

Well, it is probably more complicated than either you and I are presenting it. Again, don't you think Paul McCartney can have hundreds of very accomplished musicians at his fingertips when needed? McCartney's organization probably negotiates the situation on an annual bssis, with some sort of guarantee, ie, there will be a minimum of gigs, or you get paid a base salary. But is isn't millions of dollars. That seems to be where you and I disagree. But so what? Even if Paul were to say, "I guarantee you guys each $250,000 a year, either through concerts or I will pay you." that doesn't make them multimillionaires swimming in cash. Yes, compared to me and you they are rich! But you will never convince me that McCartney is paying each band member $500,000 a year or more. It has already been established he pays the band about $50,000 a concert. Over and above that we really don't know.

You just need to look at the massive beach front house Brian bought in Santa Monica after a few years playing with Paul...!
-
I agree they're on a retainer. I don't agree that they're being paid a fortune, as Paul isn't exactly known for his financial generosity. However, I do agree that the guys are getting a healthy annual retainer.

I've seen the photos, it is nice and all, but nothing indicates it is huge. And is it possible he has banked some cash to buy a house? Yes! You don't have to be a millionaire to live in Santa Monica.
