I'm making a Beatles related film
-
Hi there, I just wanted to join to reach out to people who may be interested in a short I am making. It's about a black girl trying to get into a segregated Beatles concert set in 1964 in Jacksonville, FL. As many of you may know the Gator Bowl was surrounded by racial controversies, with the Beatles refusing to play to a segregated crowd. I was raised in Austin, TX and going to concerts was a major part of my youth. In my mom's youth she went to a segregated school until she was 14 years old (1964). I imagined what it would be like to be denied the right to see my favorite band because of the color of my skin and the story began to write itself.

According to this article, the Beatles did not agree to play to a segregated crowd. The Beatles were not like that. From the article, it was against the law at the time they played.... http://jacksonville.com/news/metro/2014-09-10/story/show-almost-didnt-happen-beatles-perform-jacksonvilles-gator-bowl-50

Do you have a bit of the story for us?! Times were so different then. I can't imagine how she must have felt... I'm hoping she got in to see her favorite band!
