......download so I can actually record music from my electric piano?...I was at Microcenter recently and the guy showed me something that cost roughly $130 bucks - the name of this software was something like 'fruitloops' ( - not too sure about that name, LOL)...but he suggested downloading a free software to see how I like recording before putting some money into it...so what say you?

There's a major open source software program called Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Should do the trick. Read the wiki and FAQ help pages - due to licencing they cannot package the LAME mp3 encoder to save your efforts as mp3's - should you wish - however they are allowed to advise you how to collect and install the codec - it's simple enough and only has to be done once. PS this is the program your shop pointed you at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FL_Studio They've gone posh since their Fruity Loop days and now call themselves FL_Studio If you want to take that step buy as a download on-line as there lots of competition. A boxed CD set from a retailer is probably the most expensive option. Martin

Thanks a lot for that info - not being familiar with any of this, you can imagine my laugh with the 'fruity loops' thing...LOL

Mac or PC? If you got a Mac, Logic Pro has come WAY down in price, they now offer it in the App Store for under $200. If you have a PC and/or Mac I hear "Reaper" is the new hot software. The features are great, especially for the price (something like $45-60). I've been using Logic, but that's just what I got used to and as far as midi is concerned it's considered the industry standard. Best of luck with everything.
