I'm just giving this useful topic a boost to the front page of the forum as our member hollylovesyou was making enquiries this thread might assist with. Martin

Wow, I thought this thread was lost to oblivion! I'm glad someone thought about it. I hope it's helpful for some of the newer vegetarians.

Last week I decided to make faux eggs. I bought x-tra firm tofu, and turmeric. I assumed that the EXACT recipe ( I know it's not very much to remember) would be on one of the vegetarian websites. I couldn't find it! So I drained the tofu, cut it up, and mixed the turmeric in. (on) I put some garlic powder and pepper in it and fried it as you would scrambled eggs. It wasn't very good. What happened? Oh... my hands were stained yellow for a few days...from the turmeric! You could probably dye a shirt with that spice! Any tips for me?

Try adding some apple cider vinegar. Maybe a couple of teaspoons...and salt. Instead of turmeric I would substitute it with extra virgin olive oil. Turmeric is too mild of a flavoring to really do much with your tofu. It will pretty much just add a mild flavor and make it yellowish. Extra virgin olive oil will give it a little color, the vinegar will give it the flavor. Try adding some cheese or cheese substitute as well. And yes, turmeric will stain things. I use it a lot as turmeric is very good for you, but be careful what you touch it with.

You're welcome! That recipe has lemon juice in it which serves a similar role as the vinegar I mentioned above. You can use either one. It just adds flavor to the tofu.

Hello I was just wondering if anyone could help me? I'm going to America next week and i've never been abroad yet as a vegetarian except to france but we didn't go to any restaurants or stuff. They didn't sell quorn products there though I lived on tomato pasta the whole time i was there. So i was just wondering what to do about America? do they sell vegetarian products over there? I wanted to know how other vegetarians cope on holiday. Cause i have a friend who is a vegetarian but isn't when they are on holiday due to not having any quorn products abroad and I don't want to do that!
