Paul, Come To Australia
-
Just saying. I wish I knew. But this probably didn't help matters: Noise11, 30 Oct 2013: "Sales of Paul McCartney ?New? and Elton John ?The Diving Board? continued to defy chart gravity in Australia this week with McCartney leaving the top 30 after one week on the chart and Elton the Top 400 after 6 weeks. ?New? dropped to no. 38 on the Australian chart this week with 815 sales and a grand total since release of just over 2000. ?The Diving Board? dropped to no. 452 worth 136 sales and around 2500 sales in total after 6 weeks."

I don't buy that. NEW in Brazil didn't sell shit and yet Paul performed 8 Out There concerts there!

I don't buy it either. I believe the major issue is money. There may also be some undercurrent of bad blood involving the 2002 cancellation debacle.

Tom Petty would be the other notable awesome rock star that hasn't been to Australia for decades, his last time out was 1986!!! There were rumours that promoters didn't satisfy Petty's demands regarding a tour of Australia, what ever they were? So Paul isn't the only one who hasn't come down under. I wonder if Paul's management have talked to any Aussie promoters? I don't think ticket prices are the be all and end all, The Stones managed to sell out and add shows and those didn't come cheap. Paul is at the top of that upper echelon of Rock legends still around, still alive and still touring so I will not subscribe to any crap suggesting a tour of Australia will be nothing other than a highly successful venture and holiday for Sir Paul
-
And a friend in South America says told me Tom Petty has yet to play there. Weird.

Fucking Tom Petty, I'm dying to see him live. Somebody bring to Argentina dammit, sumbitch!
-
I think I recall who that friend was now...

We'll probably get to see paul in oz when is about 80 and can't sing any more (which looks like it's starting to happen might I add...)

So, Paul will play Charlottesville, VA, a town of 45,000 with a metro population of 207,000, but not play Albuquerque, NM, a city with 550,000 people and a metro population of 900,000. Or Australia. :

Blame it on promoters and not on Paul, Mr. Martinez. Did you contact Albuquerque's promoters to see if they tried to hire Paul to perform there?

No, but I do blame Paul's handlers. They are also contacting promoters in various markets. You will never convince me that Paul just plays where he is asked. Besides, a promoter in Las Cruces, NM in 2013 offered him a concert and he turned it down. Which is fine if he is playing Denver and Chicago. But it really gets under my skin when he plays markets like Charlottesville (never even hear of it) and Columbia, but not Albuquerque, which is much bigger. Sorry, but I don't buy your reasoning, Mr. Javilu.

Is there an official reason why he turned it down?

My reading of the article was money. He was offered $1 million for a show and his people said no. Yes, he is Paul McCartney and should get more. I get it! Probably the same issue with Australia. Again, other artists are willing to play these places.

There's no logic or consistency to where the concerts are. It doesn't just depend on money. He's only done 2 shows in the Pacific Northwest in the past 10 years, Vancouver and Seattle. He's skipped Portland on several West Coast trips, including last year, choosing Salt Lake and Phoenix instead, even though he had been to both in 2010.

How about Tulsa? I think he has done three or four shows there in two years. I understand that fans think we should just be grateful and travel to see Paul, but I don't get why he can't do ONE of those shows in New Mexico. I get it, but it is frustrating.

I've always wondered/suspected that there's a sh!t list. Vancouver was on it for 40 years! Honolulu must still be on it. (...and New Mexico, Portland, Cleveland, Australia....?)
