Name the song that Elvis recorded in early 1964 which was a key song in the "Guitar Man Medley" of the historic '68 Special.
Crap, I saw the special a bunch of times, but can't remember! Hint? And you didn't answer my question: What car did El buy his mom after he made it big and what color was it? (I know, too easy!) My favorite Elvis was '56 to '60 and '68 to '77 (music wise) Physically, I liked him best '71-'73.
I'm gonna guess that Elvis bought a pink Caddy for his mother. Cadillacs were definitely his thing. And here's the hint: It's a ballad from the point of view of someone who is observing another in an unfulfilling relationship.
You're right! You're sure this ballad was from '64? It must not have been a big hit because there are no songs from that year on my Elvis 50 Worldwide Gold Hits CDs or Elvis by the Presleys 2 CD set. P.S. My alltime favorite Elvis song is If I Can Dream.
It was the B-side of a Top 12 hit from one of his movie-soundtrack singles in 1964. Also, although it was a B-side, it hit the Top 40 (No. 29), because it was so well-liked by radio DJs and fans.

It hurts me, to see him treat you, the way that he does...

"It hurts me to see him treating you the way that he does..." One of my fav Elvis recordings, yet it's not on almost any compilation. The way Elvis sings it it's "just the thing". And I've thought a lot of times about the lyrics... they go back to me every time I see the same situation. "he's just that kind of guy..." In the end I thing "she", whoever the "she" it's "just that kind of girl" who ends with these "kind of guys", a very typical story... so now it doesn't hurt me anymore.... It could be another song... "It doesn't hurt me anymore" more like a Dylan song.... "It ain't me your looking for babe...."

Your analysis is appreciated nonetheless, Ollie.

Argentinean to be more specific.

I'm curious, my fellow fans: What are your Top 5 Guilty-Pleasure Elvis songs? Mine are: #5 - Edge Of Reality (196 #4 - Plantation Rock (1962) #3 - We're Comin' In Loaded (1962) #2 - Crawfish (195 #1 - Baby, If You'll Give Me All Of Your Love (1967) Not surprisingly, these are ALL soundtrack songs. (quiz) Actually, one of them was recorded for a soundtrack but was not used -- which one?

That would be it, sir.

Thanks for the video of 'It Hurts Me' Ollie! I don't even remember that song! Hmmm...Guilty Pleasure songs? Your choices audi were confusing to me. What is your definition of GP? I would pick something like Burnin' Love.

A "guilty pleasure song" is any track that you wanna blast in your car stereo in a convertible with the top down... ...but you wouldn't want anybody to see ya' rockin' out to it. "Burning Love" wouldn't qualify in my book. That is a classic that many people love.

I haven't listened enough Elvis to do it but, anyway... 5 Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear (the song it's not good really, but it's catchy, and I like the bass notes... "i want to be... your Teddy Bear", like in other songs) 4 Blue Christmas (the 68 special way)/Are You Lonesome Tonight (Elvis stuck on the same note with that vibrato for all the song but I like it anyway) 3 Rock A Hula Baby (I shouldn't like this, but the vocals are terrific) 2 Surrender/It's Now Or Never (yeah, I do the operatic notes at the end when I sing them on karaokes, I shouldn't like it though :lol 1 The end of Hurt or Rags to Riches live in 1976/1977, when, again Elvis went operatic doing the same thing over and over, I think he did too to end other songs. Elvis doing typical opera "covering", I shouldn't like him doing that (just like when Paul did in Besame Mucho in 1969...) but I find funny, peculiar, it reminds me that any great rock and roll singer could do opera. But not the other way round... no great opera singer could do rock and roll. Andrea Bocelli has tried and get only to be average in pop, "average" if ever.... Pavarotti just couldn't when he tried. It's like a reminder, "Rock and Roll is King", and that's one of the points associated with Elvis.

Okay, I see. So would Teddy Bear, Rock-a-hula Baby, It's Now Or Never, or Viva Las Vegas qualify?

It's really subjective, but I'd venture to speculate that "Teddy Bear" and "It's Now Or Never" would not qualify, but "Rock-A-Hula Baby" and "Viva Las Vegas" are ripe for the pickin'. A better example: I hate Elvis' version of "Hey Jude," but let's pretend I reeeeeally liked it: That is NOT one I'd want to be caught enjoying.

Well, I wouldn't want anyone to hear me singing Teddy Boy or It's Now Or Never in the car at top volume!
