Found a complete 1978 episode of Top Of The Pops. Both Elvis and Paul McCartney are in the Top Ten!

Not sure if you guys are aware of Prince From Another Planet: 40th Anniversary Edition (2 CDs/1 DVD), which is recently discovered, decent-quality film of Elvis' 1972 concerts in New York City . The film was shot by a fan who'd not only managed to get his camera by Madison Square Garden's security -- but a tripod, as well! Fans are going nuts over this footage -- as it has long been a complaint that the shows were not officially filmed -- despite the fact that Elvis had recently been filming a concert-documentary! Here's Elvis' best friend, Jerry Schilling, promoting the project on CBS This Morning. The film has been synced with RCA Records' official, audio recordings:
And here's more of the actual footage: ELVIS POLK SALAD ANNIE (New Madison Square Garden Footage): ELVIS HOUND DOG [New Madison Square Garden Footage]: Elvis Presley - That's All Right - Prince From Another Planet 1972: It was Elvis' '72 NYC shows that George Harrison attended, which he'd discussed in The Beatles Anthology bonus footage. -

Whats sweet is both him and John did Hound Dog at MSG within about 3 months that summer. ah the summer of 72. Here's Lennon, goofball show compared to Elvis, but that John could sing when he wanted to. Great taste in music.

Love his shout-out to E! Man, I would love to have seen/heard Elvis' immediate reaction to that. Good post, K! (now, wtf was Yoko screeching???? sooooo not appropriate for that particular song!)

See I love that one too! love the Elephants back beat to Give Peace a Chance. Somewhere in there in what John was doing between STINYC and that MSG show, there was some cool stuff going on, very loose and doing whatever they wanted. they sure got shredded for it though. as you know I love reggae too Elvis I love ya baby

Also I think somewhere in the crowd on stage at the end of the GPAC is Stevie Wonder, partying with the crew

That was a rushed LP, released just a mere days after the conert took place. The new remixed deluxe set, "Prince from another planet" is much better sonically.

I just realized I have a VHS tape of this show (tape released in 1985) Live In New York City!

It was also released on Laser Disc and of course, several bootleg DVDs.

What's funny, and you may know this, the TV program was the recording of the 2nd performance, the night show the day of the back to back shows. When Capital/Yoko or whoever relased that Live In NYC album we all know and love (got an indian pressing of the vinyl myself ), well for the album they/it is said that Yoko selected to release the first show, which was truely a rehearsal that was made into a concert by letting everyone attend. Even at the time, 1986 or whenever it came out, I understand that members of Elephants Memory were really upset with her selection of that first show cause it is actually pretty bad in parts. sounds like a rehersal, go figure. I have the TV program DVR'd and watch it now and then and the diffeereces especially in John's singing are way better in the film, that one should be mastered and pressed so we could have each show on LP form surprised they havn't done/cashed in on that yet.

I used to have the cassette in the late-'80s. THAT was a rehearsal?

Well, the first afternoon performance was added late to the bill, I do know that, they just decided to do two shows. And I believe there was some free entrance involved due to late scheduling. In terms of the band playing I consider it the rehersal show, and it makes sense knowing that they knew at the time they were going to be filmed that night. You'd want a rehersal. And if you really listen and compare the 1st with the 2nd show, the 2nd is a lot better. again, especiailly Lennon's vocals believe it or not. Its like he was joking around the 1st show. very all over the place.

No sir, it wasn't. They simply added a matinee show because the evening one was sold out.

So they say... its all about rehersal show/real show for the band. its apparent to me in their performances. And I swear I read where the morning show tons of people got a free gig out of the deal, somehow doors opened to all. I could be full of it though.

Can anyone recommend a good 'best of' album for Elvis?
