Elvis Presley

OK, Elvis fans. Another Elvis trivia challenge that I just thought of: Explain the connection between the song "Never Been To Spain" (which Elvis performed throughout 1972) and the 1984 movie Gremlins.
-
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
-
In Never Been To Spain, there is the line "and I kinda like the Beatles"--does that have anything to do with it?

Nopers. Hint: Think "actor/songwriter."
-
Sorry, I have no clue who was in Gremlins--I saw it once I think. And I don't know who wrote NBTS.
-
Hoyt Axton wrote the hit song -- and he was one of the stars of the movie. Redemption question: His mother is hugely significant in the Elvis musical legacy. Who was she? (and don't say "Mrs. Axton" )
-
Okay, I know she wrote an Elvis song--an old one like Teddy Boy or Heartbreak Hotel? (I have Paul's song on the brain! Of course I meant Teddy Bear!)

Close enough. She is a a co-writer (along with Elvis) of "Love Me Tender."

I had to research that because I thought it was not Love Me Tender and I was correct, it was Heartbreak Hotel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Me_Tender_(song) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heartbreak_Hotel "It was written by Tommy Durden and Mae Boren Axton."

That was an unforgivable error. Oh, well.

Well, here's another attempt to ask a trivia question off the top of my head... ...I'll keep it simple, just to be safe : Name Elvis' 1972 hit that was also a big hit for Willie Nelson in the early '80s.

Always On My Mind
-
-
Take a wild guess: How much weight did Elvis lose to prepare for the 1973 Aloha From Hawaii concert?
-
15-20 lbs?
-
Nancy R:
15-20 lbs?
According to Albert Goldman's book, Elvis lost 25lbs. I did a search for some photos. BEFORE (June 1972): AFTER (Jan. 1973):

My Q to you. Which fellow with a deep, deep voice sang at both Elvis' and Gladys' funerals?
