So are we sure there are tickets and they're not free? Hard to imagine that the tickets would be reserved seating. I hope to hear before they go onsale.
Free like some of Paul's recent concerts would have been nice, but the tickets prices are now confirmed in my post above. None of the seats are reserved seating. General Admission is the chance to defend a patch of grass as your own - although the promoter suggests bringing your own blanket - no chairs. VIP is the right to queue on a first come first served basis for a choice of places on a "bleacher" style terracing. Forgive me, but the concept of bleacher seating is a bit alien to us over here in the UK - my impression is wooden bench style terracing without an actual individual seat as such. Certainly no seat numbers or reserved seating. VIP does include access to dedicated toilets etc here's the quote from the KISS concert web-page being held at the same venue a week later:
VIP Seating (limited amount): Prime stage viewing, raised bleacher seating provided (VIP tickets will be sold with an assigned bleacher section, but seats/rows within that section are not reserved. First come, first seated within each bleacher section in the VIP area). VIP preferred washrooms and concessions.
Perhaps some local Halifax members can describe what has been the case in the past? Martin
You got it - the bleachers are the non-wooden ones you pictured above. The rest of the info is correct as well. I'll be aiming for general admission, I think the VIP tickets are a complete waste of money for what you get. Generally speaking they won't be holding back any tickets. 60,000 is the most the area can really hold. I'd be very surprised. They always have "Early Bird" prices for things around here, even when it's events that will obviously sell out. I'm guessing they'll sell out VERY quickly. I'm crossing my fingers I'm able to get through. Still haven't ruled out camping out...but I think online/phone will be more successful.

Link below has "seating chart" for KISS in July...it may be similar for McCartney show. http//ev9.evenue.net/evenue/linkID=halifax/core/seating_charts.html#5

Yes - that's the link that was posted on a previous page. This will most likely be the same set up for Paul's show.

Thanks so much for all the great links! This is getting exciting. I made hotel reservation (Lord Nelson) since I heard spots were being snapped up. Not sure if that's the best or cheapest place, but heard it's nearby. The "seating" is as I figured.. much like Quebec, wait all day and get a good spot. I'm up for that! I wonder if there will be much running involved like Quebec. Better pack the poncho. I wonder how cold it can get in Halifax in mid-July. Maybe we can arrange a get together the night before?

that has already been arranged by the promoter of this event by having a general admission show. I predict this event will occur .... in the line outside the venue waiting for getting in the concert the next evening. Silly as it sounds, many of us paul fans are diehards and we know that arriving the day of the show, 5 or so hours prior to the show, finds you in a big ole line that has been present for a while, with folks having already bonded and have been sharing stories, memories and renewing old friendships while getting excited about the show. (you did notice i did include myself in that gang of diehard silly fans )

I know even with VIP, there will always be VVIPs in front of me. Podgie (just imagining the Bleachers) Monkey (PS. Hmmm...wonder if I can get to the Beer Garden from a Premium Tent?)

The Lord Neilson is a great hotel located in a very central location. You're in downtown Halifax close to everything. Good choice! And only a hop skip and a jump from the concert location. Halifax in July, as with any location in Atlantic Canada, can be quite unpredictable. Weather in Atlantic Canada can change in an instant, so be prepared for anything, and I undoubtedly would be packing my poncho (and sunscreen too, for that matter). There is only one entrance to the venue, so I expect you are correct in the "mad-dash" expectation. I would say people will start 'camping out' early the morning of the concert - i.e. 5 am-ish. Perhaps earlier, but it's hard to say, really. I feel like quite the lightweight with you folks here! My husband and I have never seen Paul, so we're pretty excited. He's a die-hard fan, so he was beyond excited when we found out about Paul is coming here. Now, of course, it's the scramble for tickets, but I'm hoping we'll be able to get a few.

I notice that after the piano pit incident in Tampa, you didn't have Paul perform from the top of the bench in front of him

In Quebec there were several dozen who spent the night before in the waiting area, but I don't think it was anyone from our board here. I think I was one of the earliest from here to show up and that was about 6:30 am. And that was a free show in a much bigger field, a more central city (closer to bigger population centers) so I would expect more early standing there than Halifax. But hey, I could be wrong. We did arrange for a dinner the night before using this board and I did meet up with one of the others at a bar/restaurant in the old town Quebec (is there one in Halifax?). I can't remember her name, but she was the one to bring those big beach balls to toss around (she said she was going to do it). I'm a little concerned about the running only as I had knee surgery just after the Change Begins Within concert here and I'm not up for running yet. Hopefully by July... (got any idea how far the run could be? - I could practice?) That running definitely reduced the average age of those standing right in front from those who had been waiting along with me closest to the gate (from about 50% older to maybe 1/3 older). http://geography.hunter.cuny.edu/~mclarke/Paul_McCartney_concert-Quebec_City_Plains_of_Abraham.htm Here's the scene from Quebec (and my writeup) Be sure to scroll down and see me running in the stampede, caught by the Le Devoir photographer. I hope to run into Nelson, the guy in the white shirt next to me. He lives east of Quebec City in Rimouski but never got his last name.

Just wondering... is it in anyway possible to hear Paul without having a ticket and just by walking around the Commons...?
-
the thing with the lineup in Quebec, it was ridiculous and unsafe. People who queued the day before I dont think they all even got to the front because of the run of the masses which had lost anyform of a queue and just became a stampede and survival of the fitest. It was not a safe experience. I felt but coz I got up front over people who had queued longer than me...people I like However technically this shouldnt happen in Halifax because it is ticketed. As a result it will be a wee bit easier to control in terms of allowing people in but there will still be a run even if they try to stall it Audrey...I do not know who these hard core fans are you speak of?

I hope you all have a good time!!!!

I could see how there could easily be a stampede in Halifax. It all depends on how they have it set up, how many entrances there are, and how far the entrances are from the standing areas. I'm curious to know how far it is from the GA entrance on that jpg link we had here to the stage. I can't imagine it's the long long distance that we had to run in Quebec. There were actually 2 runs separated by a half hour of standing in the sun jammed together. At the beginning of the first run we went through sluices with guards searching bags (tickets could be taken there too in such an arrangement). After the lady said "C'est bon" seeing I didn't have a bag, I took off. I saw pictures in the many newspaper accounts of young guys tripping and falling quite spectacularly, on pavement. I saw an older gentleman with an abrasion on his head being lead away as we waited in the sun. Even with a bum knee, I remembered how to run road races from 30 years ago and how to keep your wits about you as you're faced with curbs, zigzagging young men, and getting jostled and pushed by other runners (all of which I experienced in Quebec).

You could hear the Rolling Stones across the harbour in Dartmouth, so yes, Paul will be blasting throughout the city. DCD Ltd.

What are the chances of Paul playing Mull Of Kintyre?

Well, there is nothing Scottish about Toronto and he plays it there each time. Considering Nova Scotia means New Scotland I think there is a good chance. Plenty of local bag-piping talent to pick from. DCD Ltd.

You will be able to hear the concert from anywhere in the general area. The concert is very close to downtown Halifax, and is in the city's core. There is only one entrance to the concert, thus one gate, and not multiple entry points. Not sure about that link - tickets aren't supposed to go on sale until Friday, so I'm not sure if they are legit or not? Hard to say. I'm always leery of un-official online sales for anything.

There is quite a strong link between Nova Scotia and Scotland historically so he better. Thats the song that pulled me to really having to go I will have seen him 11 times if I make my way there and not once have I seen him in Scotland. I'm desperate to hear Mull (and a few other songs but this is more realistic)
