Triplets Love Paul:
martinput:
One thing that leapt out from that that and took my fancy: Take a look at Abe's bass drum head - it's got a very crude PM taped on with what looks like masking tape! Clearly his leaping from artist to artist recently has taken it's toll Martin
Martin, we just posted about this in another thread, but thought we may ask here as well......We thought that "PM" done with "masking tape" on the drum head was used intentionally. We thought that it was done this way due to The Fireman......Remember the masking tape for the stenciling of the words "FIREMAN" and "ELECTRIC ARGUMENTS." You can see Paul peeling the masking tape off in the artwork included with the Electric Arguments CD. So "PM" wasn't written this way on the drum head intentionally???
No one knows for sure but Abe. I stated in another thread that music stores sometime supply bands with instruments...here possibly the drum kit. Abe's set may be at the venue & rather than risk it being damaged they offer the drummer a new kit. But again, how can anyone know for sure without asking Abe?

I love that notion about the masking tape: http://www.thefiremanmusic.com/home/ We shall have to get an answer sometime, somehow oobu24 - As the masking tape was present at Halifax on Abe's main drum set your excellent notion about a temporary kit for the Letterman show wouldn't follow through. Nice idea though. I'm going to beleive the Triplets notion. Martin

My husband is a drummer & music stores do this quite frequently. But maybe not for someone as famous as Abe...but who knows?

finally got my photos up on photobucket! I was around 15 to 20 feet from the stage, so they're pretty close up. A few have a pink flesh-colored blur in the corners, mostly because of the tall boy in front of me who was more of a tree with a face than a boy, but I digress. ) Most of them are in the RCMH folder, for some reason, and as I'm going to NYC early tomorrow a.m. for the concerts, I don't have time to move them now, but will soon. Enjoy, and leave comments! http//s662.photobucket.com/albums/uu341/walliebaby/ See you in NYC! D D D D D

Hello, you asked for impressions of Paul's Halifax concert: First, a confession: this comes to you from 'beyond the fringe' or at least, from beyond the gates. Because we were among the many who sat or stood on the streets outside and listened in (and sang along!) Don't worry, those of you who made the considerable investment in tickets need not fret: we couldn't see the stage, and had, at best, a glimpse of the video screens. <snip> About 1/4 mile away the hill we call 'Citadel Hill' was cloaked in layers of people. Later I learned that even behind the hill, in various apartment blocks, people came out on their balconies after the sun went down to listen. <snip>
I'm not surprised that some people felt that they were not able to afford to go inside, while the prices were certainly entirely fair for what Paul delivers(!), (and he has been generous enough to do a few free shows in the past...) The economic downturn seems to be hitting a lot of events such as this... I live in the San Francisco Bay Area -- origin of the band Green Day, who are from the East Bay Area here, (and so they are even more Huge here than in other places), but they have had tickets on sale for an arena show in August (in San Jose) since mid-May and it's still not sold out...!! Coldplay offered discounted tickets at one point for a concert nearby that wasn't selling out as well. I fear that many people just don't feel like they can spend on anything much "extra" right now... I am glad that you got to share in the event anyway, I enjoyed reading your post about the concert.

I've seen Paul a number of times, and I think the Halifax concert was the best yet! Here are some photos that I took before, during, and after the show:

Fear not! Although the show aired last night on Shaw pay-per-view, Star Choice, Eastlink and Cogeco, it's available today on both Shaw and Rogers video-on-demand!

Yeah, but unfortunately, for those in the US that made the trek up to Halifax, we don't get any of those. Guess I'll have to go hunting for that one. I have seen Paul perform numerous times too, since Wings in 1976, and Halifax is definitely up there in the top five of the shows I've been to. I really enjoyed being in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Your citizens are among the most friendly and polite I've encountered, your children are well behaved, and the coast is beautiful! Thanks to whoever suggested Peggy's Cove, that was worth the trip, as well as Hopewell Rocks in NB.

Before the band came on stage they had the drum illuminated so you could see the PM on the stage.

Thanks for that news. That would seem to be the clincher if they are making such a feature of the drum head. Martin 0 Triplets 1 Martin

I could have sworn that during soundcheck the front of Abe's bass drum had 'DW' on it in masking tape, for his drum brand, Drum Workshop. When I got to the show it was changed to PM...Could have been the crew? I am not 100% sure...

YES! during the July 10th soundcheck, Abe's drum has "DW" instead of "PM" from the next day..weird-

I put up a couple of Halifax videos on YouTube - Only mama knows and All My Loving. He didn't do the latter in NY tonight.
Got a few hundred photos, some quite good. Eventually will go on my website (www.maggieclarke.com) -

Wow, what an awesome account of the soundchecks. Thanks so much, Mike. Celebration with lyrics.

I saw McCartney in Halifax last week. It was truly awesome. I have not heard a bad comment about the concert yet (other than VIP seating). Would go again in a minute. Saw Pay Per View of it Thursday night too.

regarding the PM on Abe's kit, it was there last night at Citifield too.
