The Halifax region cashed in on last summer's Paul McCartney and Kiss concerts to the tune of more than $10 million. That is a conservative estimate of spending during the two mega-concerts, held in July on the Halifax Common, a report prepared by city staff said. About 50,000 people paid more than $100 each to hear former Beatle McCartney perform on July 11, and that's not the only time they opened their wallets. Events Halifax, which helps bring large sport and entertainment events to the city, surveyed hundreds of the concertgoers to find out how much they spent on the concert. The tally for the McCartney concert was about $8.2 million on meals, accommodations, shopping and other entertainment.

The most I spent was on the cab fare...I didn't even eat much! I got ripped off only once and that was totally my fault! Didn't know the money you see... ops:

I thought it was cool that Paul told of the arm signing to the concert audience in AZ (reported by a fan in that thread). Also, I finally saw the Pay per Veiw version of Halifax. Really really nice. I love all the close-ups on the instrument playing, including Wix on the accordion, views of Abe drumming from behind, which you don't usually get to see, great angles on Paul's piano playing, guitar strumming close-ups for all. They had some refreshingly different camera pans and angles. Aerial views, camera in motion smoothly changing the viewpoint. Loved the different perspectives! Brave of Paul to leave in the error and re-start for Paperback writer. It was the only big goof up of course, it was a great concert! They had a few quick shots of fans, just enough for giving the atmosphere.

For a while I was standing to the right of and a bit ahead of the tall camera tower. Then I moved back to where my husband was guarding our stuff at the first rows of chairs. Paul told of the arm signing again on the recent BBC radio interview (radio 1 I think). He was talking about their being different kinds of crazy at the concerts, used it as an example. He forgot to mention someone else followed suit and got their arm signed on stage in Porto Rico . Audrey started a trend?

The Halifax concert has been on the news locally lately because of a scandal involving City councellors loaning money to promoters so the concerts won't be cancelled. Here's a small excerpt of an article on the CBC website:
...In all, taxpayers in Nova Scotia have lost $659,000 dollars over the past three years on concerts. The promoter has not repaid a $300,000 loan from the provincial tourism department for a concert by Paul McCartney in 2009. The rest is owed to the city from the concerts last year...
Full article at http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2011/03/18/ns-trade-centre-concert-cash.html That's sad for the Halifax taxpayer, but at the same time, there were hordes of local poeple taking advantage of the concert for free (I know my cousin did). There's a huge hill right in front of the flat venue, and tall buildings surrounding the commons. The hill, the fence edge and the roofs were all stuffed full on the day, and the grounds were so packed I had trouble moving. The catchy ads must have worked (worked on me, and I'm eternally grateful, I didn't know about Paul touring and being so awesome.) I can imagine the pre-sales being slow because of the locals knowing about good free areas to watch, waiting for weather reports for the outside venue, and maybe a few seal hunters protesting slowing a few sales. Personally I'm sure glad the concert took place, and so do many others!

I think these concerts affect you for life. I've recently been back to Halifax to take my son to the university near the commons, and the memories flooded back. I saw him in Toronto after, and it was great, but I guess like other important events in life, the first time is special.
