Here's a list (which may not be complete) of recent articles on Paul stemming from his recent concert in Halifax. http://www.cbc.ca/arts/music/story/2009/07/18/mccartney-stadium-shea.html http://www.cbc.ca/canada/nova-scotia/story/2009/07/13/ns-mccartney-halifax-pipe.html http://www.cbc.ca/canada/nova-scotia/story/2009/07/13/ns-mccartney-common-park.html http://www.cbc.ca/canada/nova-scotia/story/2009/07/11/mccartney-concert.html If you read the comments by readers, you'll see some negative stuff, but I assure you not all Canadians get that rude. I saw a lot of happy sir Paul lovers at the concert, and there are good comments too. He seems to have really ticked off some people with seal hunting comments. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Thanks for that news. That would seem to be the clincher if they are making such a feature of the drum head. Martin 0 Triplets 1 Martin

I could have sworn that during soundcheck the front of Abe's bass drum had 'DW' on it in masking tape, for his drum brand, Drum Workshop. When I got to the show it was changed to PM...Could have been the crew? I am not 100% sure...
YES! during the July 10th soundcheck, Abe's drum has "DW" instead of "PM" from the next day..weird-
The dw brand logo is still present on Abe's bass drum along with the "PM." By the way, if the logo is turned upside down, the logo reads "MP," as in McCartney, Paul!

Where was all the sound checking and jamming going on? I would have loved to have seen it. Before he came on at 9:30 I heard he was watching the warm up band from the wings (no pun intended). The CBC site also has an article about the girl who got the arm signed, and shows a close-up of it. I don't think I got that on the list, but it's fun to see. My blog about the concert is linked from the new member intro thread. (heading "New, from Halifax concert") http://macca.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=71596

Came from Scotland for that one and he knew it. Also Mrs Vandebilt was hilarious.
That's so cool you came to New Scotland from Scotland! I'm in the next province, but was visiting my parents in NS, so the concert was just the right time for me! I love hearing how you and others enjoyed the province. New Brunswick also has a huge waterfall and gorge with tourist paths in Grand Falls, and a Botanical gardens... I put a link to my concert report but I'll see if the whole thing will fit on here: I couldn?t believe my luck, Sir Paul McCartney playing an outside concert in Halifax when I was visiting a few hours away from New Brunswick! Soon after three pm the line formed as far as we could see behind us. We could see a scary moment at the front that looked like it would turn into a stampede to get into the park first, quickly stopped by security. There were already people on rooftops, balconies, chairs just outside the fence, and nearby Citadel Hill. I wonder how many more saw the concert than the approximately 50 000 ticket sales indicated? The chairs we and many brought were abandoned when McCartney came onstage. Everyone was suddenly on their feet, in both the mosh pit and the designated chair areas. I was awed by his energy, power, and charm. Recordings of his work are amazing, but it took a live viewing to fully realise his performance prowess. The ground vibrated, the audience swayed, sang, danced as he played us as easily as his instruments. Gently he endeared, ?ladies, sing it again, I like it, it?s sweet.? Politics and moral issues were locked away as he worked his seductive charm. There is a time and a place for debates, but this was not it. There were little glitches, which he smoothed over like the seasoned pro he is. He started ?Paperback Writer,? then realised it was in G, not A. ?Stop, it?s not going to work,? he called out, and re-started. Afterwards, he explained the error was his. A lesser man would have tried to blame someone, or perhaps faked it in the wrong key to cover the false start. Another time he stumbled going down the stairs from the piano, but smoothly stepped into a goofy sailor-on-deck swagger reminiscent of his playful Beatle days. He exuded an inner confidence that the audience would love him no matter what, and they did! Except perhaps when they had the audacity to boo when he suggested it would be time to go home soon. He took that in stride too, though, miming falling asleep despite the fact that a moment ago he hadn?t appeared the least bit tired. Visual affects were hypnotising at times, plain black for tribute to John Lennon, and astounding for ?Live and Let Die,? in which flames shot up from below and fireworks from atop the stage. Sir Paul himself created an iconic image as he stood with guitar raised high above his head to punctuate a powerful ending. Without missing a beat he could move from goofy and playful to serious musician striking moving chords on the piano to introduce, ?Let it be.? The sound of silence but for that one rich instrument on the open stage was ethereal. A young gal screamed like the fainting teens of the sixties when she was invited on stage to have her arm signed after holding up a sign, ?Will you sign my arm so I can have it tattooed?? Paul explained he?d been trying to concentrate and get the chords and words right, but couldn?t resist being distracted by that sign. So he got it out of the way by saying kindly, ?Well come on up then.? It looked like she almost bowled him over with her hug, then a pen that had appeared from somewhere signed her arm, eliciting the screeches and sending her to hug the rest of the band before security guided her away. I got a surprise when a man fainted ahead of me ? I wasn?t surprised that Sir Paul played through it all for approximately two and a half hours and three encores to give us the performance of our lives.

Found a clip of the PPV show on YouTube, "Flaming Pie":
This is how all Paul DVDs should be. A focus on Paul and the band, with a few glimpses of the crowd, but not too many. -
Thank you!!!!

Hello, I've never posted before, just wanted to say that I loved the show I have never seen Paul live before, and will most likely never see him again so I was excited to discover he played a lot of the more recognizable songs. (even if this does get repetitive for those who follow him city to city) I am 23 years old and not being a huge fan was amazed at how many of the songs I knew word for word. My mother is the true Paul McCartney fan and I wanted to buy her tickets to see him for a while now, how handy that he came to us! I took some videos if anyone is interested, some of the louder rocking-out songs are a little overwhelmed by bass, sorry http://www.youtube.com/user/ilovenickolascarter

Thanks for posting that PPV You Tube clip. I live in the States, and of course could not get this PPV show , so it was great to see this. I also went to Citi Field show in NY, but for me the highlight was Halifax. I'd never been to that part of Canada before either and found everyone so friendly and polite, and your city quite wonderful, liveable, walkable...a great experience all around!

Great clip...does anyone know if the PPV special was the whole show?
-
Oh my gosh... just watched a clip... I WANT THIS ON DVD!!! It looks great. I'm dying to see the PPV version of Mull of Kintyre. Hopefully we'll get a Citi Field DVD though... but I want a straight concert film without all the interviews between.

Yes, I don't get digital TV or whatever you need to get PPV or digital on demand, I'd love to get a DVD of the concert unedited so all the real moments like the re-start of paperback writer are in there. I got the DVD of the McCartney years and I really enjoy it, especially the conert disc 3. The Glastonberry reminds me somewhat of the Halifax show, but I'd still love to get the actual Halifax show. There could be a separate commentary track, but I would want an uncut, unedited version.

The quality of the PPV is excellent. I, as well, hope that they are able to produce a DVD from this. The concentration on Paul and the band is just what I would like to see throughout. Was it the local cable group who filmed this? Whoever, it was a great job! PS And the PPV was for the entire Halifax concert.

Found someone here locally who got the PPV Halifax event - and as long as you either give him a DVD, or give him the cost to cover a blank DVD, he'll make copies of the PPV performance. Waiting to meet up with him to get my own copy! It is the whole concert, though! I'll keep you posted on the outcome!

If they do put out a DVD of it, besides the regular concert like on PPV I'd love to have them (and Paul) and a commentary track in an extras thread, and the warm up/sound check. I doubt they'd do it, but it would be neat to have added some of the amateur footage that's on Youtube of warm-up, Paul leaving warm-up (not very visible), crowd outside the hotel getting a little wave. Some waited 6 hours for it apparently, out front, and he slipped in the side door of course. People got some good atmosphere shots, an old lady's feet dancing, a young gal on a pic-nic table...

Thanks for posting! I was on the other side, by the right hand speakers, so a person in your crowd shot that looked a bit like me couldnt' be.

By the way, how was Joel Plaskett's opening set? Did anyone catch it? He's a really cool maritime artist.
