Hey everybody! Lots of interesting stuff here, Evie, love your S&G renditions, and Homeward Bound is one of your best so far! Hey Ollie and Audi, Elvis topic here, like it, been a fan since I was 5 so, keep it up, and some music theory in this place can't hurt, right!?!
The day I can successfully learn music theory is the day Temptresss joins a monastery.
Hey, I don't have a clue about "music theory"... I've just know..."my theory":lol and that's all. I sometimes use words that come from music theory... only to "translate" from mine... (and then to English :lol Like I someday I had to learn the name of the chords... "Ok, I'm playing a Csus4", but I just don't know what I'm playing, I must stop and think... "yes, that's the name, I think..." I've met people who said "I'm in 5th degree of Harmony", 5 years studying harmony!, what do they study?. Even Beethoven and Mozart were based on the 3 typical chords and variations from it... Maybe it's another thing I'm ignorant... Sometimes I'm tired of songs having too many chords and I sit down thinking "I'm gonna write a 3 chord song"

hey....i heard that...my ears were itchin' and i knew someone was saying something here. just got back from Disneyland. i'd like to sum up the place as...a very expensive amusement park that you spend all day in and only get on 4 rides...if you're lucky. but it was nice to get out of rainy/windy washington and wake up to palm trees and blue skies/80 degree weather. on the other hand, Disney World is in the same league only you get to go on 2 or 3 rides if you're lucky. also went to sea world which i LOVEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD (i'm not a disney person) and to michael jackson's mausoleum (you can't get in but i wanted to 'be there' anyway as i adored him).

I'm great, all things considered. Right now, I'm helping my mom complete her relocation back to our hometown. She's retiring early from the military because of cancer. Both her parents are sick, too -- but everyone is living well despite these health setbacks. That's the abridged version of my recent events. On a lighter note, this thread will always have life as long as Oliver keeps insisting that Elvis sings ahead/behind the music.

so very sorry to hear about your mom. it's really hard to watch family go through rough ordeals. we used to have a huge family and now it's dwindled so much it's like 'we' hardly exist anymore BUT...the best you can do is enjoy everyone now while you can. my prayers for your mom. there are surely miracles out there. and i'm hoping for a recovery for a special lady who's raised such a great guy! you're a good son!!! yes, i have noticed this thread has been hijacked and is now the elvis thread! and it's a lot of you and oliver going back and forth! hee hee. i'lll have to check back more often. take care and best wishes for mom.

Hey Audi, I'm sorry about your mother's illness. You know about the PM I sent you, these are the kind of situations that show that "particular thing", you know, is needed for everyone. There are great doctors there in America. I hope everythings ends well and your mom is OK again.

you want it to keep it alive? I want it to keep it alive! (Get Back!) The timing thing , there are great, fantastic singers with bad timing... (even though...) I don't mean Elvis, now I'm not sure about what he did... but, for instance, most of the opera singers have bad timing... I don't think it's delliberate cause opera is very... close-minded... you must sing just what's on the score, you know... you can't add "your touch", or do "your version"... If you notice, every time Pavarotti sang Nessun Dorma, for instance, had a different timing... and he sang that quite a few times... so what? no singer is perfect, man... You know I'm not messing with Elvis, c'mon you know I subconsciously made him appear in my dreams to teach me how to sing high notes ( ), so you know I admire him... Ok, let me say I think Elvis had the best vibrato in rock and roll (maybe in music...), so no-one sang songs with long notes better than him (What now my love, Love me tender, All american trilogy, Blue Christmas, I'll remember you, The wonder of you, etc) (To me, the perfect (impossible...) singer would be something like Paul's magical timing and magical staccato, Elvis magical vibrato, Freddie's magical legato and Lennon's magical feeling...)

Now that I'm talking about my fav singers... (Freddie, Paul, Elvis and John) Long time I've searched for a song that both Freddie and Paul have sung... and I can't find any... there's lots that Freddie and Elvis have sung, or John and Elvis, even John and Freddie (Imagine), Paul and Elvis... and of course Paul and John Now if someone know of any, I would appreciate it. As far as I know Paul has never sang anything by Queen, and Freddie has never sung anything by Paul or the Beatles. But here's stuff that Freddie has sung (and surprisingly Paul has never sung...) Jailhouse Rock Tutti Frutti You're so square (baby I don't care) Imagine Hello Mary Lou this is one of the greatest bootlegs ever, Queen doing Imagine just hours after John passed away... (obviously the crowd gets mad)

I love their version of "Baby I Don't Care" at the Wembley concert in '86. Who was doing all those harmonies? Funny: Freddie Mercury said that Queen was going to stay together as a band, and yet, that was their last show.
-
We were talking bout Elvis, and about Freddie... this is when I say "don't mess with my divos" (there's a girl in the karaoke that kind of say "don't mess with my divas", or should I translate like "get off my divas", when someone there sings Mariah Carey, Withney Houston or Celine Dion stuff) American Idol-Tim Urban "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"
any comments about this one? get off of my divos! (or are these words 2 strong? I don't know...) -

you mean, when Freddie said "the rumours are we're gonna split out, what do u think?" and all the crowd shouts NOOOOOOO "They're talking from here (the ass)" Hey, they didn't split. It was their last tour. Not his last concert though. They stopped simply because Freddie knew he had AIDS in 1986. So the tour of The Miracle album (1989) never happened, and of course the Innuendo (1991) either. Anyway Freddie hate touring because he suffered a lot while singing and after the shows (vocal nodles...). They remained together 20 years (they were just meant to play together), until Freddie's death, quite a record. The harmonies here are done by Roger Taylor (the drummer), who sang higher than Freddie so usually did harmonies with him live or sang the notes he couldn't sing. Though John Deacon (bass) is having such a good time than joins in in some harmony (he was the only one that virtually never sang, less than Ringo in the Beatles) maybe you'll love this one... when Elvis died Queen recorded a tribute song kind of imitating Elvis called Dreamers Ball... then in 1980 Freddie did it again with Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and then in 1983 is when Freddie is closer with this one, written by himself. Queen-Man on the prowl (and Brian sort of tries to play like Scotty)
hey I didn't know this one, Extended version -

yes, but Elvis was good-looking too, and they say Freddie was kind of sexy... and they were years light away singing... "this is karaoke", maybe we'll throw something too at him in our karaoke... If you picked up the 11 best singers that go to "our karaoke" the level would be much higher than this American Idol top 11. That's why these shows are a bit of a joke. There are horrible people that get to the final castings (and almost horrible to the final show).... and I'm sure there tons of great singesr that doesn't pass the first audition... (I've known quite a few here...) Funny auditions (the final ones, in front of Simon) 2010-American Idol
-
we were talking bout music theory... I've been watching the Montserrat concert... you know Elton and Paul play piano on Hey Jude then. On rehearsals they just didn't remember the chords... so Elton and Paul searched around for the Beatle record (fortunately Beatle records are everywhere :lol, to pick up the chords by ear. Can you imagine that...? "Do you have a Beatle record in your car?, well, Paul McCartney and Elton John need it to play Hey Jude" Today they would use youtube How great they are
-
I've posted new recordings, but I don't know if they belong here, so they are on the Supernova thread... They are a different version of Rock and Roll with Audi, Cryin' with Adam Lambert, and American Trilogy with Elvis (in the pure Olivelvis tradition...)

Brian May has produced an album for a singer called Kerry Ellis
and the greatest thing is he has played guitar He kills me always with his guitar... Steve Vai said recently he can easily mimick every guitar player in the world... but Brian May, "who's in a higher ground". Steve even tried to do it with Brian's home-made guitar... "but it sounded like Steve Vai not like Brian May..." -
Happy Easter everyone!!! Here's a better headless version of my first S&G tune.
