I have allllll these projects: -Golden Earth Girl -You Got More Sass Than Class -Coming Up? -We Are The Champions (only if Spain wins the World Cup) -and my songs and today I was in the sofa watching videos and I started singing along to this...
I sang the chorus, I liked it, and I thought "why not?", then I've checked the lyrics and the rest of the music and I don't like so much... but I planned a elec guitar riff thing.... I think it would be shocking, and I like shocking things, you know. Too many plans I think I must focus only in one in two, if not I don't get a thing done...Looking forward to the projects....
My PC has been malfunctioning (sometimes worked but most of the time didn't) and now it.... seems... to be okey. So I'll guess I'll catch with many things... People I know here seems to be shocked a little with the McCartney thing... some even think Macca himself is gonna call me (or his label!, MPL...). Well, I don't have a clue... Well, the MFM thing happened on a break on his tour... and now he's touring. If something special happens then I'll let you know (as long I'm able to let you know about it...). I was discussing about music yesterday with someone his opinion I trust a lot... And he agreed with me with the Elvis "out of time" thing (:lol, well, not Elvis only but almost all of the singers that are not musicians... we can restart the controversy , or maybe someday I'll get why all those sing that way deliberately and I will like it... And after this time I don't have many adventures to talk about. There's a new karaoke here and one can sing virtually any song in the world... So I took the chance to sing some stuff I could never have sung (Helter Skelter, An American Trilogy, Sex Bomb, I Want it All, I want to break free, Innuendo, Sweet Child O'Mine, November Rain, Highway to Hell, I was made for loving you...), funny place, well...

I like this a lot , maybe what I like the most is when the key doesn't change and a new song begins... it's sort of what we planned to do with Elvis' early hits.. for instance, the beat of Don't Be Cruel is good for Treat Me Nice, Teddy Bear, All Shook Up, etc...

As I mentioned, I've fallen for the pressure! Been playing this song occasionally. A Macca classic, love the simple arrangement, that is actually not so simple! Love the Wings harmonies and the bass is stunning . BUT I just did this with my portable handheld recording device, for the fun of it, no fixing done, live track, with a basic mix... SO, hope you have the patience to listen to this simple track, as I said, love the song, and would anyone like to try to record any harmonies, I won't say no! I don't know this song, I think I've listened to Paul's records too fast. I virtually can't sing in harmony, Audi will do it better.

yeah, I don't get it... I mean, you said you can sing along to any Elvis recording... but can you sing to an Elvis recording that you've never heard before?. I mean can you guess when Elvis will sing "too soon" or "too late", so there's a pattern on it... or he just does it at random, so he sometimes thought of doing it sooner and sometimes later?

You have provided examples in the past, and I disagreed with all of them. However... ...I have only found ONE example that supports your position. Kinda'. A live version of "Stranger In A Crowd" from the opening show during Elvis' August '70 Vegas engagement. As the song started, Elvis sang the first line in the tempo HE wanted, and the band had to catch up to him. Keep in mind: It was a brand new song at the time, and they had rehearsed it only minimally. so, other than that, Elvis is the most in-the-pocket singer next to James Brown. Now don't make me buy a plane ticket to Spain, Ollie!

ok, let's forget about Elvis... and talk about every other singer... and let's forget about James Brown too... Who? I don't know... some very famous... Sinatra, Pavarotti... especially Pavarotti, as classical music is not open to improvisation when he was too soon or too late he was really wrong, no syncopation on the score... I guess Elvis was in the pocket, but not opera singers... and I don't know about Sinatra, maybe he did the same as Elvis? I think now I understand what you say... James Brown is for me, other example of "out of time" so that's deliberate, and kind of funk, improvisation over the beat, especially when you keep the same chord over and over.... but I don't like it when a singer does it when the song goes changing chords... is like... Hey jude, don't make it bad... (and still the chord of C has been played), It would be a funky Hey Jude, I guess. But I don't think all music should be sang this way at all...

Nah, I think I get it... it's just "funking" the melody, only I don't like it in most songs... it's like Elvis singing Hey Jude. Actually no Elvis cover of a Lennon/McCartney is better than the original because of this Though I think we'd better forget Elvis and talk about other singers... lady madonna
get back hey jude yesterday -
Amazingly, I don't like ANY of Elvis' Beatles covers. In Vegas, some of the live versions were OK -- but his studio version of "Hey Jude" is a crime. Did he even have the damn lyrics in front of him????????

well, he was such a perfectionist in the studio, so I guess he had... but to be fair with Elvis, I think Hey Jude is one of the hardest songs to sings ever... and It doesn't seem to be hard... this is the last winner of American Idol doing it!
I think Elvis could never sing a Lennon/McCartney original as good as John or Paul. Neither Queen's stuff or Elton's stuff or even a Dylan song... That's what I'm trying to say... the greatest songwriters have a gift with timing that the greatest singers don't have... What I didn't get is the syncopation thing... ok... anyway next time Elvis appears in my dreams I'll ask him about syncopation... my subconscious mind gets things I don't get... Pavarotti singing with Stevie Wonder Pavarotti singing with Elton John Pavarotti singing with Brian May -
Well, I promised that if Spain won the World Cup, then I'll record a cover of We Are The Champions. (After lots of PCs problems...) We Are The Champions www.oliversanz.com/wearethechampions.mp3

Hey, Oliver. I'm listening to the cover of We Are The Champions now. It's great!!!! Elvis could not have done a better job. Btw. Torres has said he is not leaving Liverpool. He is looking forward to lifting silverware this season. Cool.

' I agree with you, the version of Hey Jude is just horrible. I can't think of any Elvis cover that I like. Never been a big fan of Elvis. The early stuff was ok, but then it was so much crap coming from him. Such as this song:

Hey, Oliver. I'm listening to the cover of We Are The Champions now. It's great!!!! Elvis could not have done a better job. haha... I would have really like Elvis to do Queen songs, not We Are The Champions... but things like Tie Your Mother Down... There is some kind of... syncopated drums in my recording... btw, I guess Elvis would have sung "I am the champion, my friends..."
What I didn't get is the syncopation thing... ok... anyway next time Elvis appears in my dreams I'll ask him about syncopation... my subconscious mind gets things I don't get...

well, if Mariah Carey appeared in one of my dreams telling me how to sing the whistle way and I got it, perhaps Elvis appears in another dream of mine and I learn how to do the funk-syncopation..., that would save money to Audi, cause a plane ticket to Spain is not very cheap

I never was a fan of Elvis till I saw him live. The Aloha concert, the Comeback Special... he's a bit more boring and perfectionist in recordings, you know... doing 20 takes for every song... made it look "unreal" Elvis live
well, in the 60s he sang a lot of weird stuff that I guess he didn't even know how to sing... I like a lot the "messianic" Elvis, when he gets into gospel or into America's Messias or so singing things like An American Trilogy or If I Can Dream, I think that songs showed the very best side of Elvis hey, anyway "crap" is a bit too much for me, I only think is far from Macca but not crap, I haven't seen anybody singing Hey Jude close to Macca, except for some Macca impersonators... -
Guys, I'm totally giddy... ...our pal, BjΓΆrn, is putting the final touches to another soon-to-be Global wings classic! Stay tuned...
