This is always a tough question. I would say Achtung Baby by U2. Ram is a very close second though. Ram's playful and full of wonderful melodies, but Achtung Baby is so dark and emotional. And the whole package that went along with it. I mean Zoo TV, the trippy music videos, the interviews and the whole image of the band. There really is no bad song on the album, it's just excellent. Ram could become numero uno with me again though if Paul came out with a 10 disc deluxe Ram And the album covers one of my favorites too. Now that I look at the clock it's 1:29! What am I doing up? Might as well listen to Achtung Baby

To difficult to call, Beatles and solo albums from the fabs would always be up there but there are so many other great albums i've listened to over the years and continue to go back to. maybe a better idea would be to start a new thread every month asking people to name there fav album from major artists like The Rolling Stones, The Who, Springsteen, Oasis and The Wurzels etc just a suggestion

despite being obsessed with mccartneys output down the years and admiting that 95% any music that makes me happy has mccartneys name on it.i will have to admit that my all time super duper favourite all time album is not by the beatles, wings, lennon, harrison or indeed the fireman.... Everyone is here - the finn brothers Everyone Is Here is the second album by The Finn Brothers, a music project of New Zealand brothers Tim and Neil Finn. this album is just majestic from start to finish, although very well recieved it did not become the era defining monster that it deserved to be. i would urge any mccartney fan to check out the melodies and structure of songs on display here...it is pure mccartney gold without him being involved at all. a better collection of songs i have never met.

I am hereby taking your advice Lazy! I've decided I shall burn $10 in iTunes gift cards on this Finn Bros album! I'm interested to hear it. plus I trust your musical acumen. however the only thing that makes me nervous going in is that you hold Chaos as a masterpeice.. but I'll give the Finn's a try

you will not regret it. its funny because if my memory serves me correct,it was released around the same time as 'chaos'... i do love 'chaos' you know that, but i have to admit that 'everyone is here' is a much better album and it also comes without a 'clunker' which always helps. 6 years on and im still listening to 'everyone is here' almost weekly..also the songs are so neat to play on accoustic guitar with excellent/simple chord progressions wich is always a good sign of melodic craftsmanship and class. thanks for listening 'kapoo'.

heres a couple of standout tracks.

'edible flowers'....simply stunning song ,with tear inducing chorus
'wont give in'.... possibly the catchiest song ive ever heard.

those do sound good. I just listened to a couple other songs from the album as well. but you know what I might have to do, is I checked and my vinyl source has the Crowded House debut album Crowded House available for $4! I may have to pick up both of these! is that Crowded House album among the bands best?

a bit like wings greatest i would say the definative 'crowded house' album for me is probably their amazing 'greatest hits' collection.reacurring dream it is not a formula i normally subscribe to [greatest hits albums] but for certain bands it kind of defines the quality of their pop perfection better. as for studio releases i would suggest the album produced by 'youth'[aka the fireman] 'together alone is the stand out. crowded house the album is also very strong, you wont go far wrong mate

Since there's no doubt Paul/Beatle albums would top my list, I'll answer in terms of pretending we were asked about albums other than Beatle/Solo Beatle albums...So here are a couple I'll list right off the bat: Billy Joel - The Stranger Supertramp - Breakfast in America David Bowie - Sound + Vision Queen - Live Killers Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (probably the only time on this list I'd include an album that also matches the general consensus as being a classic/legendary album) ***I generally steer clear and get sick of the so called all time legendary albums. The only reason various Beatle/McCartney albums passed through this to remain favorites is because I kinda 'backdoored' into them (i.e. I discovered them on my own without knowing how legendary the stuff was)

Well, only to be cool and don't go with the mainstream is a bad reason for me to skip great music. Only because it's famous, it doesn't mean that it's bad. I would never stop listen to great music just because other people like it too. There is a reason most of the time why some albums are legendary. Mostly because the music is great. 😉 So, except for of course the legendary Beatles albums, there are many other legendary albums that I'll always listen to, f.e. Rolling Stones 'Exile on Main Street', 'Freewheelin' Bob Dylan', Kinks 'Village Green', Simon & Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', the debut-album of the Doors or Oasis's 'Morning Glory'.

Too many McCartney contenders. My choice -- hands-down -- is Robbie Robertson [1987]. Phenomenal.
