Hello Lisa. Nice to hear from you. Where's me cuppa ?? Love and hugs. Sam
(pour Sam a freshly made cup of orange pekoe tea)

Oliver I agree Paul's voice is beautiful but John `screamed' as you call it but well within his range. Lennon had a tremendously distinctive voice. Cheers. Sam.

True. They all did really come to think of it. They each had a very distinct quality to their voices, which complimented each others extremely well. Their 3 part harmonies are the finest I've ever heard.
-
Of course Paul's voice is much better and more beautiful, but I don't think John didn't like to sing and though his voice isn't as beautiful as Paul's, I think it's very good. Haven't you heard A Day in the Life? His voice was amazing!

Yes... Vocally, I love John on A Day In The Life, Across The Universe and Julia....Gives me shivers.

I think it was more John being more insecure about his voice. George Martin has talked about this. John eventually wanted his voice echoed and disguised on Beatle records as time went on. I do agree though that John also had a beautiful and distinctive voice. It thinned a bit by the late 60's though, while I thought Paul's voice was in his prime between 68 and 73. Hello to everyone in this lovely thread, btw. Cheers!

Good afternoon everyone
No time to catch up right now. Too much work to do!
Hi Sam, There seems to be some controversy surrounding the supposed release of the Beatles First US Visit on DVD. Someone has accused Geoff Baker of misleading fans. http://www.riprense.com/beatlespublicist.htm Have you heaqrd anything about the release? I am hoping that it's true because I would really like to have the First US Visit on DVD. Love and hugs, ~Tashi

Back to the singing and performing throught. I once read that Derek Taylor said Paul was born to do what he is doing, it's in his blood and he totally enjoys it. Ringo seems to enjoy it on this own terms, George and John, not so much. I guess that's why at the end Paul wanted to get the boys back on the road. They rest thought he was crazy. But with that last tour, it is so obvious that he was in his element. Hopefully we will see him soon again. Sorry for being greedy, but those shows were better than a vacation for me. For Xmas, I received the Ed Sullivan shows dvd. You can tell from that first note of All my loving, he was thrilled to be there. I took the others a little longer to come around. My little girls were laughing at the way his head and leg were shaking, I said that show was a very big deal and he was very excited to be performing on it. It was fun to share it with them.

Hi Paulfan. John never really enjoyed touring...neither did George that much. It's hard work and they didn't have Macca's burning energy. BTW stop saying that 40 - 60 is old. 90 is old...ish. Paul is like a young stud.......and I'm not exactly over the hill. Cheers. Sam.
IT must be pretty hard to tour Sam. It is too bad John and George didn't have the energy and good Paul keeps on going.Okay if it makes you happy 40-60 is middle age not old age. How old are you? John was a month younger than my dad and Paul is two years younger. Stella and I are the same age. No disrespect to 40=60 year olds but that is when people's hair turns gray and they have to watch their health is what I mean. I'm sure when Paul was in his 20s he thought 40 was old. I heard an interview with him that he said who knows we may nto knwo hwo to write songs at 40 but since he is a rock star I guess he can stay young. Funny thing is the Beatles are my parents age. I think maybe before the 60s or back then 40-60 was considred old but these days it isn't since Paul has reacehd that age and baby boomers have.

Hey Paul called John "a screamer", these are his words not mine!
Anyway John's one of my fav vocalist ever. Nobody's perfect. About John's voice I notice something unique. John's the only rock'n'roll singer I've heard that... when his voice "breaks" (Think Twist And Shout) he sings superb! This happens with some Flamenco singers (Camaron de la Isla), which are very "soul" singers. I think Paul's the most beautiful voice of rock'n'roll but John's the most soulful voice of rock'n'roll.

Wow Vinny !! What a thought...an OBE for me. I hope it doesn't stand for `Ordered out of the British Empire'. Thanks again for your support...and brilliant ideas. I'm off to bed now to dream of meeting Queen Elizabeth. I'm a totally confirmed Royalist by the way. Cheers mate. Sam.
Thought I might check back in on anything I missed. I'll try to do that every three days or so to my final exams.
*Shouldn't be too many, too bad I can only exempt one!*
'Ordered out of the British Empire'. Canada used to be a Colony back in the day....
Too bad we are independant now.
But, some things stayed the same...like tea.
Royalist...you are? What is a royalist, Sam? Thanks! Nice too see you Starr!
And I'm glad too see Magical Mystery Girl had to join us in all the fun.
*Good morning....;) It's night here!*
Yes Kay I have. Hey, Kat, you're a tea fan as well? I was shocked to see it losing to coffee in the thread under OFF TOPIC. hehe
No, really?
I love them both. I must admit, and stop having coffee close to bed time.
Sam, thanks for telling me that.
I do not know what to think of the Royal family...and, Sara, thanks for the PM!
About the singing thing. I like Paul's becuase, it's just so easy to sing along with me.

Age is manmade and irrelevant.
When you consider how long earth has existed, the universe is old... not a 60 year old man.
Well,
as I have always said I don't listen to my elders, but don't feel bad because elders to me is anyone over the age of 30. I just had to catch up with everything.
You are so wierd!
Oh, Hi Sam...*lurks and runs again*

Sam Leach:
Hi Samcat I don't think the Anthology was discussed that far back but possibly a few similar ideas. It was inevitable they'd have reformed if only for the odd special show. After all they loved to entertain people. Cheers Sam.
Hey Sam, I just had heard that there was something that was in the works prior to John's murder and it was labeled at the time The Long And Winding Road which ended up metamorphising as the Anthology. Cheers! Sam C.

Hi All- well, it seems this thread just stays busy! I had to read back several pages again. Let me throw in my opinion on a few things: John and Paul both had/have wonderful and distinctive voices 40-60 seems younger to me everyday (I'll be 37 this year - and I don't feel so old).
Paul is definately in his element on stage. I don't think I've ever seen anyone who seemed that happy to be performing. My mom (who is 2 yrs. older than Paul) went to one of the concerts with me and she couldn't stop talking about how much energy he had. Seeing Paul is one of the things that motivated me to start exercising again, because I thought "wow, he's incredible. I don't have that much energy now at 35!" And regarding "the Long and Winding Road" project, from what I've read Neil Aspinall put together like a 2 hour retrospective of the Beatles career back in the early 70's but it just got put on a shelf somewhere. In the late 70's the Beatles had a lawsuit against the Beatlemania stage show (I think that was the group) and John wrote something for that case that said the Beatles were thinking about doing a documentary/retrospective film of their career. (I'm sure someone else will have all the details on this.) I think its been debated as to whether John just said this to help the lawsuit or if it was really being discussed at the time.

we are never too old for anything, as long as The Good Lord gives us strength to move around and be nice to each other we are young ,I was born in the 60's early. I have found that i feel my healthiest and youngest when a spark of something creative or spiritually enlightening occurs in or around me. Paul is smart he knows the secret also. Continue to be creative ,continue to perform, continue to help and care for one another lets all ignite a spark of life in all of us here, lets make the Paul Mccartney forum an explosion of love and hope to all the world .....
