All right -- I won't argue this point further then this post with you because I don't even remotely agree with the notion that Bush won this election becuase of his ability to court independents -- Bush's own people agree with me -- that's where my opinion is primarily coming from. They flat out said that it was their strategy. If you want to check things out read Newsweeks portrayl of how Bush won -- read articles about Karl Rove. Karl Rove ran Bush's campaign not Dick Morris. If you prefer to think that Bush won becuase in your mind he is a moderate Republican who is wooing independent voters with his moderate mainstream views, then I don't want to take that image away from you -- becuase its something that you obviously want to believe. If you are open to an alternative idea (am in politics I do this for a living, I read and watch A LOT -- trust me 99% of the political pundits and Bush's campaign are saying it themselves -- it was a campaign primairly but not exclusively about motivating their base) go on the web and start doing searches on Bush's strategy and Karl Rove in particular. Yeah terrosim was an issue, too. It help Bush win some votes no question. However, if you notice where Bush's voters were coming from -- they weren't coming from our country's terroism danger spots -- Kerry routed Bush in California, Illinois and the Northeast. The states where Bush prevailed were the southern and mid west states -- the bible belt states. Now, I don't think that residents in Alabama are more scared of terroism then those in New York -- hence New York went for Kerry and Alabama went for Bush. We've argued some political points where I think there are good arguments on both sides of the issue -- alas tort reform. On this one, its not an argument -- it;s whats being said on both sides of this race. Your own favorite crew Bush and the gang support exactly what am saying -- they bragged about the fact that their campaign was about pushing their base. Go do a search on Bush and see how many times he calls himself a moderate and how many times a conservative. Go do a search and read what moderate Republicans are saying about how they are marginalized in their own party. The Republicans are unabashed about the fact that they are moving to the right. They aren't trying to cover it up. On these points am not arguing against Bush -- am telling you what Bush and his team are saying about themselves. If you think Dick Morris has a better perspective on the campaign then the people that actually ran it -- so be it. Hope you had a happy thanksgiving! Cheers! Mike
Mike, Dick Morris helped run two successful campaigns for President Clinton and helped him when he lost his race for governor in Arkansas, so I trust Morris's perpective of successful campaigns than I would Kerry. True, the Northeast and California and Illinois went with Senator Kerry, but the rest of the nation in between went for the President, and that says a lot to me. As for being on the right, I would not call President Bush a conservative by any stretch being that he signed off on campaign finance reform, prescription drugs and Homeland Insecurity and the Patriot Act. I know many conservatives who did not vote for the President in 2004, and many of those many call right winged Christians who did not vote for him either. As for Kerry, he hired the wrong people, had he listened to President Clinton and Dick Morris, he might well be preparing for picking his cabinet, rather the country having a second Bush term. Vice President Gore did not seek President's Clinton advice, and you saw how he lost the electoral vote, although he won the popular vote. I had a filling Thanksgiving. Hope you had a great one as well. Cheers! Samcat

Sam Leach:
Hi again Sam C How you can even mention Bush in the same sentence as Blair or our Queen beats me. Bush is semi -literate and must be a total embarrassment to any intelligent American. And I know there are at least 49 Million of those. They're the ones who voted against Bush, heh, heh. Cheers mate. Sam.
Hello Sam, Well, the New York Times (hardly a Bush backer)printed an article giving evidence that President Bush was more intelligent than Senator Kerry. There were 61 million who voted for President Bush, so are you considering them not intelligent or perhaps semi-literate, Sam? I am very disappointed you believe that, Sam, I thought you were more open-minded. None the less, I still consider you a friend no matter what your opinion. As for mentioning them all the same sentence, no problem. Your Queen just reads from a paper that is given to her from 10 Downing Street, and has little actual political power. As for Blair, there are many (not I) who perceive he is Bush's lap dog. Actually, I have a great deal of respect for the PM as the PM usually has to engage in daily debate and has to be quite sharp to do that as the leader of his party. Which is something our President does not have to do, the only time he shows up at Congress when it is the State of the Union. President Washington came to Congress to push for one of his appointees and have exhaustive debate he pretty much said he would be damned if he ever went back to Congress to discuss anything. It is a tradition that has held up to this day. I am conceerned for freedoms lost in my country because of this terrorism as I am in your country. In our desire for security, we should not compromise our freedoms. Which is why I have never been a supporter of Homeland Security and the Patriot Act or the constant patdowns at the airports. Hope you continue to recover. And you still have not addressed my comments about the Glazers' attempt to take over the Red Devils... Cheers, Samcat

Hi Samcat As soon as I posted the gentle jibe about 49 Million Intelligent Americans I realised that might infer the rest were thick. Sorry about that it's just Bush who's thick....or rather under the control of his Daddy's rich mates. As you know I love America and Americans....without whom we might all be speaking German or Russian. Regards to Glasier I don't trust his motives and neither did his bankers and money advisors. He won't get Man Utd control. My Son's future brother-in-law, Michael Jones, has just won the Britiish Light Middleweight boxing title...albeit in slightly controversial fashion. But he's Champion !! Goodnight all. Sam.

Glad to see you back, (((Sam))). Hope you're feeling better than ever.

Sam, I tend to disagree with you because you don't get to be President of the United States by being thick. Many of his father's advisors have little connection to his administration. Under Bush's watch as head of the Republican party, there have been significant gains in House and Senate and his handpicked man won the Senate seat in Florida. Many of your conservative Republicans favored McCollum over Martinez, Bush's man. You don't do that by being thick, but I certainly respect your opinion though, as it is one shared by many who believe Karl Rove calls all the shots. As for George W, he was not the favourite in the family to suceed his father in the White House. Many believe Jeb Bush (the current Governor of Florida) is superior to his oldest brother in all ways. I sort of figured you were speaking off the cuff when you said what you said. And I am still your friend despite our differences here. We have music which binds us together and the general good feelings of your wit and wisdom. The Glazers own the Tampa Bay Bucs, and they have a tendency to get what they want. Quite true JP Morgan and another bank have bailed out, but they are quite determined, being that they gave the heave ho to three of the members of the board. Don't sell them short, though. As a USA citizen, I think it would be abominable that Glazer would own the storied franchise... My best to your son, daughter and all your family. My congratulations to your son's brother in law for his win. Onward and upward. And it is quite good to see you up and about... Cheers! Samcat

Hi Samcat Of course I'm only ribbing you about Bush and there's nothing personal in my remarks. But I really feel that America has better candidates for office which only proves yet again that MONEY talks. And Bush is doing what he does in one name only. OIL !!!! Glasier may get a directorship to placate him but won't get control. I wish that he would as it would disrupt Man Utd. Hello Tori-in-Texas Nice to see you back with us. CVheers all. Sam.

Sam, I disagree with the canard about oil when it comes to Bush, but I do agree with you that there has to better candidates than Bush or Kerry in the USA. There was a lot of money poured in the race by George Soros and his ilk to defeat Bush, but it did not work. One side does not have the whole share on the money thing. Glazer is a jerk and I have seen that first hand with his handling of the Tampa Bay Bucs, and it would be terrible if he took over United. Hell, he doesn't know what the heck football is. I have to say most of my countrymen don't either. Cheers! Samcat

Hi Sam, Personally, I think that if Glazer want to buy out Man Utd, ruin the team and leave the club with a mountain of debt, it can only be a good thing for English football. A life without Man Utd - sounds good to me!

Sounds like things are progressing well with the movie, Sam. I know you'll keep us posted.

I disagree with you. I do know that Old Trafford would be known by another name, and it is possible that might threaten to move the franchise somewhere else (something unheard of there perhaps) to acquire massive tax breaks to build a new stadium. Twas his MO here in Tampa. I would hate to see it happen there. Cheers! Samcat, a Red Devil supporter...

Hey Mike and Sam C Whilst it's always a pleasure to have posts from you both, I think I'd rather read about Y*** than Bush. Or watch paint dry !! Religious nutters got Bush back in....and nothing else !! Cheers Sam.
Sam, Just saw this post. I feel the same way about most politics. I also disagree with you on the Religious nutters, as people like Dick Morris hardly qualify for that. Cheers, Samcat

Hi Sam! Just popped in to say hello or better said: FÀILTE!!!

Hello Sam and all, I woke up this morning to a beautiful 5 inches of snow. It is to warm up by the end of the week and the snow around me will melt away as I have a southern exposure. The cats are making having a Christmas tree challenging. Every morning, I have to redecorate! Stay warm
-
Hi Sam, Good win against Arsenal today! That 90th minute goal was particularly sweet.
-
Hi JeffLynnesBeard Yes that was very sweet...especially with us having so many key players missing. Samcat I don't know where you get your misinformation but English FA rules would prevent Glasier from doing that. It ISN'T going to happen !! Hi Maccascruff; Sorry about the snow. Hello Ellissay Nice to hear rom you again. Back late tomorrow. Love and hugs Sam xxxx

Sam C As per I mentioned in my post -- its clear you want to believe the best about Bush so its fruitless on my end to argue. If I had an argument with you it really stems from in the past you like to say you don't like either Kerry or Bush and suggest that you are non partisan -- I assume in order to build more credibility for your positions. I have to deal with real non partisans for a living -- swing voters -- trust me based on your positions on how quick you are to defend Bush, support every Republican position we've debated, and trash Democratic positions -- you are pretty strong Republican -- nothing wrong with that. Heck am a Democrat I own up to it. This last recent spate of posts you seem to be taking a more open partisan position -- you just come out totally, just kidding! In terms of the lecture about who Dick Morris is...I've read every one of his books. Am well aware of Dick Morris. I don't do politics as a hobby its what I do for a living -- I run campaigns. My point was not only didn't Dick Morris run Bush's campaign -- he wasn't even on his campaign period. Bush's main consultant -- who Bush accoladed as the archtiect of his victory on Election Night is Karl Rove. Karl Rove said that increasing Bush's base of the Chrisitian conservatives was key. It sounds like your next argument needs to be with him -- explain to Rove that he is misleading the public about his campaign strategy and only true outsiders Fox News Talking Heads people like Dick Morris who had no part in the campaign -- truly knew what was really goining on. Again I am saying this with no malice. But, since the Republicans and Bush are your political heroes -- If I were you I'd explore what they say about themselves as opposed to what others say about them. In terms of Bush not taking conservative enough positions on certain issues alas he gave the elderly a small expansion for prescription drug benefits -- I'd be scared to see what your version of a real conservative is -- Jessie Helms? Heck Jessie was one of Dick Morris' old clients. Cheers! Mike

Sam Sorry for the boring posts about Bush. This should be my last on the topic. Sorry Sam C -- but have to agree with Sam's comments about Bush's intelligence. Bush himself laughs and admits he was a C student Bush admits that he really doesn't read books -- only newspapers The best his Republican friends say about him is that he is not stupid. I've not heard one say he is brilliant. There are whole books dedicated to his misstatements What did he accomplish before he became President -- he was Governor for one term of Texas and owned a baseball team -- the rest essentially involved years of failing businesses. Tony Blair on the other hand can actually complete a sentence. He's educated, well read and no one ever accused him of being stupid. Can you imagine George Bush handiling Prime Ministers Questions every week? He might have to stay up past 930 to prepare (that's when Bush says he goes to bed every night) Again sorry Sam C -- this isn't a partisan swipe. I'd feel the same way if he were a Democrat. I keep my fingers crossed at big summits that he won't make misstatements and embarrass us. In my view and many others he is the first President who actually the world thinks (and many of us, too) has below average intelligence. Again, Bill Clinton, Geroge Bush (his father) Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter -- they were all accomplished, bright people. Heck its just an opinion so sorry if it offends anyone. Cheers! Mike

Hi Greg ah there you are! nice to see you here! hehe yep your right i do know where to find you otherwise!
Hello to everyone!! Hi Sam! Hope your feeling ok! Is there anything you can share about George Harrison with us like a story or anything about him? He seemed like such a sweet, caring person. Sad day tomorrow he's very missed!
