Is Halloween celebrated in Russia? I am very interested in learning of your different holidays & customs.

Have any of you watched the BBC documentary "How the Beatles Rocked the Kremlin"?
I would be interested in hearing some of the memories of Russian fans. -
veggieburgher: Ta muchly! Never saw this one before! I hold a special regard for Russian people because of friends I have made & because of the way a few special ones opened their homes & their hearts.

I think it is an important history to know, lest any doubt the significance and power of the Beatles.

I see you`ve made a progress in russian! So, I want to explain you some things; English is very good to inform, to exchange information. That`s why you achived great technical progress. But russian is different. Letters in russian Azbuka (not Alphabet) are not only to mean perfect sound, but each letter is a sort of pictogramme for meaning or image of a process. A- az, essential, I am in English. Б-боги (God), В- веди (to know, to understand). So, for example, Love, in russian transcription ЛЮБОВЬ, means; ЛЮ= ЛЮди (people) БО= богов (Gods) Bь= ведают (know, learn to know) This way, in russian understending the word "Love " means "People learn to know Gods".

Alexander, I do not deserve the credit you've given me. I've got a little secret to share with you. I use a free online translator. All I have to do is choose translate from English to Russian, write what I wish to say in the box & then hit the translate button, copy & paste! I am able to speak a vew words in your language but not much more than Hello/Good Day, Goodbye and Thank You! Thank you very much for your help. I enjoy learning new things & meeting new people. Before I left Moscow (many years ago) to return home, the one souvenier that I was able to bring back is a lovely hand-carved wooden bear. Is there a special name for these hand-carved wooden objects? Even now, I am still impressed by the time it must have taken to get every detail down so perfectly.

Some call such an objects like "оберег" . I can interpret it into english like "object to safe", a sort of personal guard of man. Bear is a symbol of Russia, you know. Our ancient folks- ariy and slaviane believed they came on Earth from Big Bear constellar...

Alexander, thank you! You are a great teacher! I didn't know the bear was a symbol of Russia. The hand-carved bear I brought back from Moscow is very simple. He is holding a pot of honey & the wood is oak & has turned a lovely golden color. I hope that one day I will be able to visit your country again.

That is quite beautiful.... I have been to St. Petersburg and to the Hermitage... it was all very beautiful and I look forward to returning. I could spend a week at the Hermitage alone!!! While I was there, I bought some beautiful black lacquer boxes and some jewelry, a small egg like my favorite Faberge egg, the Lily of the Valley... Spacibo
