Nieuw Nederlands Macca Draadje - vervolg

So, I guess I need to post a report as well. Sean and I got up at an ungodly hour Saturday morning, and still managed to miss our first train to Brussels airport. : So lots of stress and half an hour of waiting at the train station later we were finally on our way, checked in for the flight and then there was more waiting as our flight was delayed by about an hour! We missed the free shuttle bus from the airport in Dublin to the hotel, and had to take the normal (not free!) bus to the city centre, but the best thing about it was that there was a bus station right next to our hotel and so we were dropped right in front of our hotel. Also, the hotel room was fantastic, a large bed, large room, and, I have never ever seen this before, but the bathroom was really, REALLY huge! You could have a party in it, seriously. Sean and I went to see Trinity College on Saturday and then we went for some shopping! Around dinnertime we met up with Björn & Therese to have Chinese food (mmm!). Hey, I didn't mind having something more traditionally Irish, but the pubs were PACKED around Grafton street. But the Chinese was very good!! After that we went looking for a pub, and ended up in a pub where Sean and Björn had Guinness, and Therese and I...had water! The live music was amazing, we were impressed! I kept staring at the way the man formed chords...it was great to see! Day 2...Sean and I went for a walk in the medieval part of town, saw things like the castle (okay, well, hard to see a castle there but it was supposed to be one at least. :lol, Christ Church and St. Patrick's Cathedral, etc...For lunch we met up with Björn and Therese again and had some great Italian food...and then Sean went to visit Jameson's whisky distillery and some other things on his own, and I joined B&T to go to the Arena...hard to find, doesn't look like a concert place at all, and we waited a long time for the bus that never came and eventually ended up walking to the venue, but it wasn't that far actually. We were there at 3.30pm and not so many people there! It was like in Arnhem, B&T had entrance 1 and I had entrance 3 ( but when they let us inside the gate after half an hour to queue a bit closer to the entrance door, security spotted that but I explained that I wanted to queue with some friends and that it shouldn't matter which entrance I took anyway and they didn't bother, they let me stand at entrance 1. It was sooooo cold!! After 3 hours of queueing my feet were hurting more than in Arnhem because this time we didn't have the first row fence to lean on, I definitely felt my feet still when I was lying in bed that night. : But anyway, there was a little bus there with a live radio station so we heard a lot of Paul and Beatles music but at 5pm it drove away...no more singing for us! Finally it was 6.30pm and the gates opened not much later. Of course everyone started running to get inside and the security kept yelling "walk! WALK!" but who the hell is listening, running it is! We ended up fourth row, or maybe it was fifth row, I didn't count so much. Two large guys in front of me though, even though I was right in front of Paul's mike, so I was scared for a while that I wouldn't see a damn thing during the concert, but when Paul finally came on stage, all the front rows pushed a bit forward and shifted and I couldn't believe it! Suddenly I had the best view as I could look between those two guys who had blocked my view earlier! Here's my view, not to bad, eh? (one of the tall guys is now standing on the right, as you can see, the other one had shifted to the left and the people standing between them weren't that tall as well!) Really enjoyed the concert, I won't try to compare Arnhem and Dublin, they were both great in many ways, and in different ways! One moment I loved was Abe wearing the Christmas hat during "Wonderful Christmas Time", and the interaction of the front rows with Paul, wow, they were hogging him...I'm sure he must have seen me standing there as I was right in his view, but I never tried to get his attention on purpose...I'm just happy to stand there belting out all the songs! Wasn't cold anymore after that, on the contrary...very hot times to be had during the concert, especially during Live and Let Die! I also noticed that the two Japanese people who were standing right in front of me on the first row in Liverpool 2008, and had a cardboard cut-out of Paul's Hofner bass with them, were in Dublin as well, standing on the front row. In the middle of the concert a tiny Japanese women (no, it wasn't Yoko :lol suddenly started going past us, pushing her way to the front, sneaky... Really, she was more than a head smaller than I am...no one said anything about her cutting to the front as she was so small. I think she eventually ended up on the front row and had the time of her life! After the concert was over we walked back together and I said goodbye to Björn & Therese as my hotel was on the way first... Sean and I had an evening flight so the next day after checking out of the hotel we had some time left and we still went to the National Gallery...Sean is a museum kind of guy and I generally think museums are boring so I nearly fell asleep on Monday morning, but well... We then took another walk through Stephen's Green Park and suddenly saw a large cloud of grey smoke coming from somewhere....while we were walking back to the hotel to pick up our luggage the whole city centre smelled like fire and smoke! This time we made the free bus back to the airport, but while waiting for the driver we had some quick internet access in the hotel lobby and found out that the Guinness plant in Dublin was on fire! Must have been because of the Guinness that Sean and Björn were drinking! And so began the long wait at the airport...our flight initially had 25 minutes delay but that soon became almost 1.5 hours...when we landed in Brussels the tunnel-thing that they put on the plane to let us go to the gate immediately didn't come, so we spent a good 15 minutes more waiting on the plane for the doors to open. : And then we finally got our suitcases around 10.40pm (supposed to land at 8.30pm so quite a bit of delay). We managed to catch the next train to Brussels South station and there we ran to catch a train to Gent that was standing there and was also have a delay, if not we would have missed it and had to wait even longer! In Gent we also had to still wait 20 minutes until our tram came to our apartment....so we were finally home at 00.30am! Long day for sure! But great trip, Dublin is a nice city (though I might prefer London a bit more) and even though it was cold, we never saw snow during the entire time, it was sunny all day!

It's finally here!!! The Simon & Garfunkel medley by me and toytoypiano! A whole lotta love (but also hard work) went into this project.... Toytoy is such an amazing guitar player, my mouth dropped open when part of this video first dropped into my mailbox before I had sent him anything, and to be honest, I was very reluctant to participate in it. We first tried adding my vocals to only a handful of songs, and leave the rest to toytoy, but that didn't sound right at all, so I ended up singing most of it with him anyway....I sent him stuff song by song, layer by layer, and he did a wonderful job of editing everything together. Anyway, have fun watching, and please, do watch the whole thing, because the way he plays it is just fantastic. It sounds like one big song, and yet there are 53 (!!!) Simon & Garfunkel songs in there somehow! And hey, at the very end, there's a body part of me appearing (and no, it's not my head! ) Part 1
Part 2 Part 3 In the summer a ten-week long documentary about the Tokaido road in Japan ran on Belgian tv, and I had a lot of discussions about it with toytoy, so that's where the idea came from for the background of the video. 53 stations on the Tokaido road....53 S&G songs in the medley, you see. And the drawings of the Japanese artist Ando Hiroshige who painted all the stations of the road in the 19th century make a great background! Tell me which is your favourite part of the 53 songs! Mine is A Heart In New York...it's just perfect, the harmonies...everything! Prettige feestdagen iedereen! -

Maar we waren erbij...that's what counts.
