Paul, Hampden Park, Glasgow, 20th June - ARCHIVE

I've checked quite a few videos and there's nothing really happening to Macca's voice. It's only a particular technical thing and that's all. Probably Paul wants to sound deliberately like that sometimes. As he has always shown his likeness of sounding different, using different voices, like in... Why don't we do it the road or Mr. Bellamy no need to worry!

...there was a guy and his wife sat behind me who tapped me on the shoulder and asked "so who's that again?" I admit I was a little sarky when I replied "Macca's keyboard player for the last 21 years." ...
Hilarious! What in the world was Wix doing with the hoi polloi anyway???!!

[ Hi Lazy, great photo of you and Wix I was sat in Block AA7 (Row K) and saw you mugging the camera! I managed to get a photo of someone else with Wix but by the time i'd got my sh*t together, Wix had done a runner before I could approach him. In fairness, he was very patient and signed numerous autographs for fans. Seems like a genuinely top bloke. Rather unbelievably, there was a guy and his wife sat behind me who tapped me on the shoulder and asked "so who's that again?" I admit I was a little sarky when I replied "Macca's keyboard player for the last 21 years."
thats me taking a photo of wix with my phone

I saw Paul in Glasgow in 1990,and he nailed the high notes a lot more convincingly on some of his more challenging songs better at Hampden last Sunday.
Yeah, Glasgow was one of the best dates on that tour. However,on average, he is singing better now than on that tour (he was out of practice!). In 1990 I witnessed him croak (literally) during Let it Be, and regularly lower the high note in Yesterday. The `89-90 tour was fraught with vocal problems, and anyone who says it wasn`t has rose-coloured hearing aids! But alot of this nonsense from Mr Dynamite and others is about nostalgia, of course.
... just get out 'tripping' cd or a bootleg of 1989/90 and you will perhaps stop deluding yourself over this!
It's been a while since I've listened to Tripping... Gonna stroll down memory lane later. And, while I'm at it, I'm going to pay attention -- not so much to Paul's vocals, but his voice.

well, as you know, Tripping in the life fantastic is a not a concert recording, but a kind of a selection of performances from all concerts. I remember the vynil, for instance, that Hey Jude was recorded in Cincinatti. just type Mccartney live 1989 (or 1990) and youtube and you'll get to live performances of that time the first thing appearing is a entire concert in Japan 1990, Live and Let Die
Let Em In/The Long and Winding Road anyway, Paul has never been a "divo", his songs are not made to show off but just to move people. And The Beatles were the same... they waited to his very last song for each doing a long solo... If the people is moved then the job is done for me. And as Freddie said "to thrill you we may use any device" BTW, Paul does his "Aloha" this Sunday -
I think everyone has thier opinions on Pauls voice and of course everyone is entitled to thier opinions. One thing I think we CAN all agree on is that Paul puts on a fantastic show. 3 hours of the best back catalogue in the business and a great rapport with the audience. I think the man is amazing for 68 (hes only 2 years younger than my dad and id like to see him try that LOL) On the subject of his vocals and age....just look at the mess that is Whitney Houston. cheers p.s. Did anyone see anyone famous at the concert? There was a young guy a few rows in front of us in AA8 that everyone was taking pics of but dunno who he was. I also think there was a Proclaimer a few seats along and spotted a couple of River City actors.

Really? I was in AA8 but I didn't notice any of that/anyone famous. Which row were you in? I don't doubt there would be a couple of River City actors there, the man's a legend. I would have loved to have seen one of the Proclaimers! Maybe the guy people were taking photos of was a footballer or something.

Hi, everybody!! Just joined this forum today - I wanted to say how much I just LOVED the concert at Hampden Park on Sunday night - I really couldn't fault it! As soon as he walked out, the crowd went wild!! There was a "technical hitch" with Bryan Ray's guitar, I think it was, but Paul, ever the professional took the opportunity to chat to the crowd and we LOVED it - As he said himself - we wouldn't have cared if the hitch had lasted longer - it was just so wonderful to see him in Glasgow!! Anyway the music, effects for "Live..." were phenomenal, the wonderful tribute to Scotland in the shape of "Mull.." with the Lorrette youth pipe band, Paul waving the Saltire- it was so well planned!! Myself, hubby, 2 daughters, 29 and 14 respectively, danced, clapped, cheered, sang, laughed and cried our way through the 3 glorious hours and we'll cherish those memories forever!! Thank you sooooo much, Sir Paul and Band - I wonder if you realise just how much happiness you've given to people all though the years? God bless - and I hope you manage to come back some day - there's still plenty of life left in you yet!! xxx

I'm soooo bad with famous people. I don't even recognize famous Dutch people, let alone famous Scots. During the soundcheck there were relatives present. There was this dude that looked just like Paul, same eyes, same mouth. I'm not the kinda person that attacks people and ask them who they are He walked by me right before the gig, asked if we liked the soundcheck. Still have no clue who it is. Must be Paul's cousin maybe. Not famous (to me) but Paul-related. Mary was there. Apparently she was standing right behind me during the soundcheck. And again, I didn't notice. I saw some familiar faces on stage though, that's all I saw

Somewhere between 30 000 - 50 000 people. I know that's not very helpful, but I've read things that have given the audience figures as anywhere between the two.

First post so here goes Was at Hampden on Sunday night, in a word? Amazing. It quickly became my best gig ever, its the first time I've seen Maccabee live, hopefully I'll get the chance again and hopefully some time soon. I travelled up with my 10 year old son who is bang into The Beatles, we wet both as excited as each other. Watching Live and Let Die is something I'll remember forever. Macca's vocals held out and I lost count of the instruments he played, everything apart from the drums basically. I had the odd 'grit in the eye' moments especially during Something and MOK. Loved the video montage at the beginning, who did the remixes and where can I get them?

I'd like to know that too. I really liked the 'Coming Up' one! Glad you enjoyed the show.

The CD is a collaberation between Paul and Freelance hellraiser in 2004 called Twin Freaks. The title is taken from one of his paintings. More info is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_Freaks Some vinyl is going for £40 but you can trawl through ebay and get it reasonably on there.

Heh heh! There were 2 women behind us at the front, and the official photographer took their photo. The older woman looked familiar to me but I can't think who she was. Yeah, the lookalikey person thought I was at the soundcheck too!I had to say, now I'm just here talking to my friend (you) and he said hello anyway! Strange! lol! I'm a bit on a comedown now, it's only taken 5 days to come back down! So watching the McCartney Years and wishing I was going to Hyde Park or Cardiff - however nothing would beat the amazing company you guys were and there was no chance of being at the very front ever again! *sighs*

Yeah the pre-show mixes were excellent. I loved the Motown cover of You Can't Do That and A Hard Day's Night. Really good groove going before the deepest voice ever covered The End Any ideas who recorded them?
